Re: Non-Hostile Arenas
Yep, their much vaunted SpatialOS has a system where you pay based on the size and duration of your simulations. For an always on, large map MMO that can get spendy real quick. They weren't that strong financially to begin with, and got caught in that catch-22 of needing a publisher for funds, but needing to show… -
Re: General Feedback for AoC
I love where the current graphic style of AoC, they are using Unreal Engine 5 so I say milk it for all its got. I want a beautiful, breath-taking game and when I saw the seasonal display, I knew AoC got there. I will not even play the game if they went backwards to a WoW/Wildstar graphical style. Cartoony has been done to… -
Re: Using Skills by Key Combination (Hotbars without SKILLS)
Ahh ya that is fine, default should be what default is normally being the 1-0. I just want adjusted key buttons as in some mmorpgs they don't do dual inputs very well with Shift+ other keys. Same way people use mmorpg mouses with multiple buttons which those of course should work with keybinds as well. This stuff is pretty… -
Re: Linux Support
Win12 will be a data harvesting nightmare. Win11 is a buggy mess right now that has specific hardware requirements putting many currently functional PCs unable to upgrade or contributing to E'waste. All of them a full of bloat baked in that sometimes cannot be removed. Win 10 is not fine for many years it is planned EOL… -
Re: AoC and Unreal engine 5
I'd like to know more thoughts about this from the development team as well. Specifically, how the Unreal Engine 5 Demo talked about directly porting ZBrush 3D images in to UE5 and the pixilation conversions. Do you (the developers, coders, artists, etc.) think this would impact what tools game developers use? I know… -
Re: The Competition has just Stiffened
You're assuming that AA2 will be in direct competition with Ashes, which it may not be. After all, all we know about AA2 is that it will run on Unreal Engine 5, but we know nothing about the gameplay, etc. While that is a huge draw for a lot of people, it won't mean anything if the game fails in terms of gameplay. Also, as… -
Re: Backed five years ago, looking for a TLDR of where we're at now :)
+1 to what Azherae said. I would add that they've transitioned to Unreal Engine 5 which has produced some visually impressive results and in the long run will improve development speed. They also updated the designs for the Dunir Dwarves and revealed the designs for Nikua, Renkai, Vek, and Py'Rai. Like Dygz said, the Dunir… -
Re: What are your thoughts about self-learning AI in MMO's
That timeline seems a little short to me. I'd give it 5 years before it really catches on (probably when Unreal Engine implements it into a core feature that everyone can use). Even then, we won't really "see" it. It will just be used to optimize some small aspect of the game; something that designers of eld had to tune by… -
Re: 📝Dev Discussion #59 - Utility Skills 🧗♀️
A lot of people are talking about using light, darkness and general vision effects. This is a great idea if it can be used with this unreal engine 5. Personally I like the idea of utilizing vision as a strategic gameplay element. Things like smoke bombs, invisibility spells/cloaks/potions, illusions, clouds of fog, etc.… -
Concerns about Unreal Engine upgrades and Scope Creep
I'd like to share some concerns I have about the development. We recently had the upgrade from Unreal Engine 5 to 5.1 and from 5.1 to 5.1.1 - and according to Steven during the last live stream this was a "big endeavor" he explained that upgrades like this can be a headache due to all the custom changes they have for…
