Does anyone know how apperance/cosmetics are gonna work atm? Like can a mage wearing cloth have heavy armor as apperance? If so then I agree with OP 100%
If not then I think it's fine. I just want the build and class to somewhat match the apperance, atleast with armor type. If someone wants to transmog their gear to lvl 1 cloth on a lvl 50 mage it's all good. I still know it's a lvl 50 mage i'm fighting.
I think it's a good part of the game that you can appear weak when you are strong. It adds an extra layer of mindgames and roleplay.
I do not like the idea of some people seeing version A and others see version B.

Ashes has a complicated cosmetic system.
People who use costumes will be able to look like whatever gear the costume is from level 1. The plate outfit I posted earlier can be used by a rogue or a mage at level 1. Costumes can't be mix and matched though... it's the whole costume or it's nothing.
Then there's also appearance slots. Where you can stick items into the appearance slot of another item and it will change to look like that item. AKA transmog. And you'll have to earn both items for that.

It would be a massive mistake from Intrepid now and in the future to block steam deck users and linux gamers from enjoying an mmo like this because of poor anticheat implementation.
Several links in this thread point to Steven acknowledging the less than 1% of players that are using Linux.

This is the absolutely strangest and yet most forward Question i think i can remember in many Years of Video-Gaming regarding a coming Game.
Why of Course - i want it to succeed. For Years i dreamed of an interactive Game World which has the four Seasons.I ask this because by reading some of these threads makes me think you all want it to fail.

I think You are addressing mostly the People who feel now down and betrayed since the Reveals of the Dates for the different Phases of Alpha Two,

We were told that Alpha Two starts in Quarter Three of this Year for ... ... ... ... over Eight Months ? Nine Months ? But the first, gentle and fickle Tests start in late October or early November depending how One looks at it,
and the "thiccer"(lol) part People are so hyped for, comes only first around the Winter Solstice.
For me who dreams of one Day being a Summoner in the World of Verra -> it kinda starts in Quarter Two in 2025. but that is not tragic at all - as i view Necromancer as kinda Main-Characters anyway. Muahahahaha. .

Skillbook system

I thought of mentioning the skillbook system because I wonder why the developers don't want to include it in the game. The system worked great in Lineage 2, but the idea was scrapped by the developers right at the beginning of the project. It's understandable that there wouldn't have been enough resources to do this in the early stages of development, but now there's a much larger team working on the game. It might be worth reconsidering now, as long as the system can still be included in the game.
I've played quite a few MMORPGs, but I never understood why they simplify the knowledge of the characters so much. I'm thinking here of giving points per level for something and it takes about that much effort to achieve the biggest, strongest skills.
I also understand the side who don't want to even bother to get the books for the skills together. If the basic concept of the game is a risk and reward system, then it might be worth considering how much the introduction of a skillbook system would add to the game experience, and how much it would take away.
Before we gather the advantages and disadvantages, it is worthwhile to be aware of how this system could be balanced in a way that would not cause problems for less active or HC players.
For entry level characters, some basic weapons and caste skills would be available by default. The other skills could be bought from the starting NPCs, or could be rewards for the first quests, which could be traded right away. Most of the skills could be available in the Nodes' central admin building for a certain fee and also in player-run markets. Less active players would not be at a disadvantage and everyone else would be able to enjoy collecting. Pricing can be used to set which books are worth what.
Based on the current system:
Each level gets skill points at ¼, 1-2, 3/4 XP strips, which can be distributed among the skills in the tree structure.
A few lists of ways in which skillbooks could be earned:
- Rewards after missions
- From NPC merchant, library, even within the main Node building
- In temples, with spec skills if they are available
- As loot from bosses, chests
- From treasure chests
- PvP loot
- Raid, Dungeon, World boss
Advantages:
- Gives extra level to character development
- Even more customizable gameplay, skills can be tiered by level and ranked by difficulty of acquisition
- Provides motivation towards PVE and PVP elements of the game
- Provides interaction between players and traders through skillbook trading
Disadvantages:
- I can't think of any if the acquisition of skillbooks is well balanced between tier levels.
That's all the thoughts that came to my mind. I wonder what you guys think about this.

Disable Transmog/Cosmetics
I think it would be very cool if there was an option for individual accounts to disable the transmog/cosmetics. That way the player can make their character look however they want but other players have the option to just view the real art of the gear.
One of my favorite aspects of MMOs in the past was visual progression, finding that upgrade that makes your character look that little bit cooler. Knowing if you stand a chance in PVP when you see someone coming towards you based on their gear.
I also find that transmog/cosmetic heavy MMOs tend to lack interesting gear throughout the leveling process. Oftentimes new pieces of gear are just a different color of the same model.
I feel like if players have the option to wear fake gear to add to their role play immersion I should have the option to turn it off for mine.

They absolutely did have prices attached to the cosmetics. Once you'd bought a Pack, you had access to buy the cosmetics individually, and so were shown the prices. And yes, the highest priced cosmetics were $25.
You just need to let this one go. People asked for more Alpha-2 keys, and Intrepid provided. They can pick their own prices, and they have done. People are paying those prices. You are in a very small minority of people that seem to have got waaaay too butthurt about this.
Maybe take a small break. Come back again in a few weeks. Get yourself some clarity and perspective.
