I want a dual wield melee so probably a Fighter or Rogue.
But Bard (a buffer is always nice in a group) and Ranger (for once they are real archer and not pet class) are very appealing too.

Have realistic expectations and not latch onto Stevens every word.. for a lot of us supporting him, we already know nothing will be on time.
Most of what they're attempting the biggest studios have failed to pull off, let alone an indie one..
Just relax and understand the scope and magnitude of what they're trying to make Ashes.

Methinks the experience with AoC is the journey rather than the destination. True for the developer as much as those who follow it.

I'll likely fill in to whatever would suit my small group the most. Of course, no matter what that ends up being, I'll still play a Ranger like I have in every MMO beforehand, and try most of the secondary archetypes. Really curious just how rangey Ranger x Ranger will end up being. Hoping it will give a unique boost to the main archetype like increased range...

Have you been playing pre-Alpha2? Or are you talking about other games that had XP penalty on death?

Still excited.
Clearly the final balance changes wont happen until the polish starts to go on at the end of the alpha phase or into the beta.
But the functional form of equations are not likely to change, just coefficients.
As well as what stats interact with what other stats.
We can still get all the testing framework in place for the future by figuring out the interactions, and later on during beta, and all future balance updates figuring the coefficient changes will then be a very quick thing to do.
TLDR, its still fun, not sure why you think we would get disappointed

As someone who appreciates both sides of min-max and statless immersion, I can say one thing:
Alpha 2 isn’t going to be the testing phase where there’s a high focus on polish by the Intrepid Combat Team.
It’s more about functionality of the primary archetypes. Indeed, a couple of the primary archetypes aren’t even ready to showcase yet.
Bottom line: Those forum-goers who are eagerly posting in this thread (about getting their hands on precise stat calculations) … should be prepared to be disappointed in Alpha 2 and should be looking forward to Beta.

I dont think anyone really knows, I'm not convinced even the game designers fully fleshed out those ideas.
I would imagine by doubling down on your archetype will most likely make you even better at your archetype's CORE role.

I expect constant parties to have their own ships and guilds requiring those ships when they're onboarding new parties.

Im to lazy to start doing law debates on this forum.
I mean there are dozens of topics about the same thing. So let the guys make a group and take actions instead of flooding the forum. Sometimes there are some ways of protesting much more efficient than screaming in the street.
That’s certainly a very extreme measure to take in response to an unsurprisingly delay in a large scale development process.
Additionally, new purchasers are buying access for more than the bundle purchasers did. There’s clear and easily tracked pricing influences for cosmetics in the packs, so old alpha2 access was much cheaper than the new access (which is fine imo, early bird gets the worm and all)
Rebalancing the beta upgrade pricing was as good move, though it’d be nice to see a proper article posted regarding all the adjustments and prices if they’ve been finalized now.
