Why? Simple due to less time because of getting older. And that's usually the main reason why leaving THE one MMO where all the hours are invested. Second reason: First MMO starts to get bad and a substituion is needed. But this usually happens in combinatio with point one mentioned above, and that's why the substituion usally is not working well.
The first cut is the deepest: World of Warcraft.
I‘ve played it from EU Release until end of WotLK, so stopped beforr Cataclysm. The time was over. It was the best WoW time without a doubt.
Then, Legion engaged me again (although I played several* MMOs in between) so I played again until middle of Shadowlands.
Saw nearly every raid back from vanilla until the fall of Arthas. Weekend long Alterac valleys, sneaked with my undead rogue in Ironforge PK-ing alliance. Progressed until Gladiator (with Rogue and Warrior), leaded rated Battlegrounds in high ratings. Had fun at tarrens mill with open pvp, battled with my Warrior with honor in hundrets, thousands of fights.
For the Horde.

3rd best: Elder Scrolls Online
Also played: Warhammer, Aion, Rift, Neverwinter, Terra, Black Desert Online, Final Fantasy 14, New World. Maybe more, I can‘t remember.
I will not play Thrones & Liberty, also Archage2 or Chrono Odyssey is not on my watchlist.
20 years later waiting for my second home after WoW, all in between were disappointing (beside GW2 and ESO, both were ok to very ok) - but no king rules forever, so I‘m not going back to WoW. I loved this game, one of my all time favorites, but players/community and the game changed a lot, I also dont like the story or „features“ like cross-factions playing. For me personnally the higher focus to solo players was good, but several other things felt bad and destroyed this masterpiece for me.
Best hope: AoC with respect to the time of the players (that aged, as it communicates with MMO veterans which are 20y+ older meanwhile).
Biggest fear, worst scenario: Only for 10h+ elitist PvP players, because I cant play like in WoW back in time 20 years later with family, kids, job. If AoC is not respecting the time of the player, it will one more MMO failing on my list. This time consuming concepts do not work for me anymore and the entire MMO market shows us, that elitist MMOs will not work or only for a very small hardcore playerbase.
We will see, what AoC will learn during the testphases. I hope, it will not only hear to players investing 10h a day, because I'm paying my sub also with 2h a day, if the game respects my time and provides meaningful content to me where I can progress my character.

Are there any faction-based games where you're free to kill your own side? Cause to me that is a much bigger and more important point than "how hard is it to switch factions".Again, you're making my point for me. Nodes are the closest thing to factions that this game has (IE, harder to change). Not guilds. Your OPINION that factions are bad is your own. My opinion that FFA PvP games are trash and fade quickly is mine. We both have our reasons. The middle ground that Ashes is bringing to all of this looks like it will be very good. We will see
This is why I said that currently guilds and alliances are the closest to factions based on that mechanic.

Like, I'd love to see most of this implemented across skill design AND UI design.
However:
I don't fully understand this and I don't think looking at it longer or reading the text again will help me understand it, because I honestly don't think all of it makes sense:
Why are the red bars specifically to the left and right of the player?
What's the point of the surroundings of the player turning red while you're within the particles? Why wouldn't you know that you're standing within the particles?
I think what would make more sense is to use the colours of the dots/wave animations as well as the cone-shaped bars to distinguish which type of effect the player is in.
Further, I would use the left/right indication to point into the direction of the centre of the AoE ability, so the player knows which direction they need to move away from in order to exit that effect.
Hey:), My main interest for giving an unfinished sketch idea, was to leave it open to interpretations and exploration based on the sketch, where devs can expand it with their own vision using this start point. Giving a full explained system, sometimes it kills the motivation and pride of the dev, as it would be a copy paste, which in most cases it will be skipped. Is just a spark, that's all. And yes your point is also good

This way ^ bots cant bother actual subscription players and they wont be able to transfer anything, because its a new character.

I'm completely against anything that lets bots or gold sellers get their foot in the door. As unpractical as the separate server would be for dev cost wise, I do agree that if some sort of free to play trial period is set up then restricting it to it's own private server would in my opinion be the best way. That would help curb the bots and gold sellers getting easy access to main servers as well as help to reduce people joining in for a short time locking down a character name then buggering off never to be seen again. At least then the trial servers could be wiped every time a trial period ends.
Came here to say the same thing, more trolls as well in anything that's free compared to games with subs

I wish both aggro range, and range of mobs behaviours are fleshed out, especially in group content. Add an option to investigate a source of noise, dead mob bodies, maybe add new patrol route. Mobs should not necessarily always just attack, instead they should become alert of player presence, observe from distance, call for backup or...retreat to join other mobs.
Also as this is supposed to be a PvX game, if a new group, new players arrive, mobs should react and for example be able to switch aggro to the new players if they are close enough, or for example retreat all together.

Yeah agro range needs improvement as well as AI behavior. It was supposed to be line of sight based and hearing which varies depending on the mob type, but I haven't seen anything new on that front. Some should also alert nearby friendly mobs if there are any in different ways. For ex. a wolf would howl, a guard in a fort might ring a bell or blow a horn which would trigger the whole fort to a defensive state and potentially wave based, 1 bandit out of a group in a camp would run close to other bandits and shout something with in game audio like "we're being attacked!" Or "intruders in the camp!".

I just said screw it and I'm buying over time. If you're willing to build you can take advantage of the sales through the year.
I've got a rapidly growing pile of parts, I've picked up a 7950x3d, 96gb G.skill ddr5 cl32 ram, 2 and 4 terabyte samsung 990 ssds and a Lian Li Galahad 2 trinity S-inf 360mm cooler so far.
So im about half way done, the other good thing is when I get to the final part (graphics card) I'm hoping the new stock will drive the price down a little ($1900 for a 4080S or $2900 for a 4090 is just bonkers to me at this late stage of their cycle.)

I hope its like Dark & Darker, an escape looter.
Parties queue up to enter in a match making sysem where groups are pitted against each other in an instanced catacomb. All parties from across Vera that queue at nodes of the same tier are matched up for the first level, if you choose to go deeper rather then escape then you go into the queue of the next higher tier. This lets thouse entering from the highest tier nodes essentially skip directly to much deeper levels while still letting anyone go deep if they can survive. When you exit either by dying or escaping you return to your original location ofcourse. The catacomb is like the High seas a no corruption zone.
That is interesting. It is a cool idea at least.

WoW - The game stopped feeling like a real world. It became a bizarre story where I was supposedly a great hero no matter how little effort I put in.
Eve Online - Pay to win made PVE feel pointless. I enjoyed using planets to generate resources, but it didn't feel worthwhile because I could get the same in-game value for real money. Also, PVP felt inaccessible. I couldn't figure out how to get involved successfully.
Everquest - Vanilla WoW was a better game. It's harsh to say, but that's the real reason I quit playing EQ.
