It is hard to coordinate a group of 40 players, especially if it's pugs. With guilds that are on the same page, who can actually practice, it's easier.
And coordination really should and probably will matter a lot, because if half of the raid is too slow to execute commands, then that raid is simply at a disadvantage.
- Let's take an example where it's a slightly unbalanced fight, you are fighting vs 60 people, and you only have 40:
Imagine you want to fall back to a different position. You issue a command to fall back, or to follow the raid leader, and only half of the raid does it, while the other half slacks around or is just slow to do it. In just a few moments, the enemy raid will collapse on that position, and now they don't have to fight 40 ppl, but only 20. Easy win for them, while you now cannot fight them with such low numbers.
- Similarly, imagine you are fighting as a group of 20 people that are highly organized, against a group of 40 unorganized people.
You can pull the enemies around, baiting them to chase you, then turn on them while they're disorganized, you can manipulate where and when you want to fight, and how many of them you want to fight, and it's only easier if they're overconfident due to their superior numbers.
Strategy and teamwork should absolutely play a key part.
Absolutely! I can totally relate to your point about the importance of coordination in group battles, especially from my experience in Guild Wars 2. In GW2, my team often found ourselves outnumbered, sometimes facing groups twice our size. However, thanks to superior organization, communication, and strategy, we were able to turn the tides and secure victories that would have seemed impossible just by looking at the numbers alone.
For example, we would often bait larger, less organized groups into overextending or splitting up. Once they were disoriented, we could engage smaller portions of their force in focused, coordinated attacks. This tactic was particularly effective in GW2's WvW battles, where terrain and positioning are key.
This experience highlights how a well-coordinated smaller group can outmaneuver and outfight a larger, but less organized, opponent. The synergy and execution of a strategy are often more critical than the sheer number of players. This should definitely be a cornerstone in games like Ashes of Creation, where the potential for strategic depth is enormous.
The idea that strategy and teamwork should play a key role, especially in large-scale PvP, resonates strongly with my experience. It's not just about who has more players; it's about who can use their resources most effectively.

Whoever watched a very certain, wonderful and golden Movie Series called Pirates of the Caribbean, or "Curse" of the Caribbean,
will probably remember this notorious Scene and Moment where Captain Barbossa ordered his Crew in the first Movie to use very long Oars and row diligently to give the Black Pearl a Speedboost ontop of the Wind in their Sails.
I know Ashes of Creation will have Ship Classes - > ONE of these Ship Classes being Galleons.
And are some People here in this Forum who kinda want the same thing as me ? No matter how many or few People/Players You can put on the biggest Ships for Ocean Content - (and Piracy) - > don't You also want to know if you can kinda "overload" the Ship with more Players/Characters on Board than usual ?
And even better - > can You modify, equip, "build" - or otherwise alter some Ships/Galleons - so that for Example an unnatural, higher Number of Players on a single Ship could help this Ship out ?
Like for Example something like - " the long sweeps " ... ...
Imagine You can from afar let a single Ship ( Gally ) look like a - well - normal Galleon. But in Truth it is like double or three times as strong in Player-Power/Numbers - and the Moment some unsuspecting Challenger and Opponent comes near - a scary Surprise might await them,
as numerous Players storm out from the Entry to a lower Deck - going full YAAARRR on their unlucky Victims.
Might me just my Imagination - but i have the Impression People in this Forum are very shy and hesitant to express themselves whetever they want to participate in Ocean/Open Seas Content, or not.

When was the last time we had an update for the Divine Nodes (or any node besides scientific, to be honest). Things might have changed drastically since the last update. I would go with the assumption that most systems we have been told about will see a change or even be removed.
At this point, I would be surprised if we get anything besides the scientific nodes (sorry for pessimism, but all these other nodes would take a lot of development hours which we have not seen or heard word about).

Hmmmm.
Why only the Skulls of our "Enemies" ? We could literally make whole Sets out of Bones of for Example slain Beasts of all kinds.
Would this be to edgy or Mature for some ? Probably. But would it make Ashes of Creation cooler than without it ? Yes - in any Case. Yes.

$100 for me is a full month of living.
But as I said, anything that the common majority would say about Ashes - they can say right now on the forums, because they don't need to test pvp to know that they can be killed in pvp, so if they dislike that prospect - they would 100% dislike that in testing. Same applies to open world pve, to risk/reward designs, to slow leveling, to everything else that's not "modern".And such a change would be a full 180 to what Steven has been promising for years. In majority of cases, such 180 changes in design direction do not end up well. So I sure hope this doesn't happen.As was mentioned before: a caravan might take multiple hours, so if you can’t devote a straight 4 hours of game time to it, then you shouldn’t bother at all because you’ll be gone before it’s completed and thus that would all be time wasted.

You can say '180 change' as many times as you want, but that doesn't fix the problem that the current design philosophies won't land with a lasting audience size suitable to the experience Steven wants Ashes to have.
So if the game isn’t made for MMO vets, who simply can’t devote the time investment required by the design tenants of Ashes, and it doesn’t appeal to the more modern iteration of young players due to nostalgia based design tenants, then who is it for?
The hope is for a lasting game with 10k players per server, but where are those players going to end up coming from? Vets who go back to some no-life'ing ways? Or younger players who are used to the current (not so great) design of MMOs?

It is an investment for a teenager with a part time job and a car note, but those aren’t (or weren’t) the ones intended to be drawn in by the nostalgic MMO design format of Ashes.
And people have definitely been telling Steven that he's making a horrible game for those past 7 years. Somehow he keeps making it still

It’s not going to be hard for adults, the MMO vets, to simply drop Ashes if the gameplay is unrewarding and their ability to progress isn’t based on their skill, but on exceptionally high time investments.
