Re: Designing the Rogue to be less about stealth
I've never seen stealth implemented in pvp in a way that felt fair, or at the very least, balanced. Rogues dropping out of invis to one shot me is not enjoyable, and I agree that it goes against the risk vs. reward spirit.
I expect nothing less than getting one shot by a rogue dropping out of invis from this game. If they surprise me, then I'll be surprised, but I've already steeled myself for the rage induction and frustration of stealthed rogues.

So, I think if you set your sights on what you can realistically accomplish instead of expecting the game to change it's approach to appeal to a solo mindset - it's great.
If you're fine just taking it slow and enjoying the game for what it is - I think you can definitely play solo and do great.
Cool, it sounds like we are like-minded as this would be my approach to the game as well. So it sounds like there is hope.

That's fair, I personally have no problem with your take on it. I was always a proponent of horizontal and not vertical progression in RPGs, especially from the perspective of competitive play. I do find it funny that discussions like this tend to bring out some p̶e̶r̶l̶ stat clutchers, who love the idea of one shotting everything.@SmileGurney
As I said in my post, my proposed scaling is inclusive of both level and gear power so I think we are in agreement.I get your fixation with the power differences between player levels, but that is a gap which can be easily addressed by levelling your character. Assuming you work in a group, you can level your char to 25 in a matter of days or less if you intend to no-life that.
You make a valid point about the early levels, but I think what is more relevant in the long term is the power differential between a geared level 50 and a level 38 who decided to explore horizontal progression. I think the level 38 should only be approx 30-40% weaker including levels/gear.

I think it depends on what you want out of the experience.
I've been on my own for 99% of my testing, and I've really enjoyed myself. However, most of that time has been dedicated to exploration, gathering, processing, and crafting. I've dabbled on the outskirts of dungeons and been in a few scrapes with some purples, but nothing heavy.
It's obvious where teams are needed, and I've been fully accepting of what I can't do alone v. in a group. So, I think if you set your sights on what you can realistically accomplish instead of expecting the game to change it's approach to appeal to a solo mindset - it's great.

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one. I think you raise an interesting point about gear being the only determinant of power, but I think we then lose a bit of the feel of the RPG aspect. I like the feeling of my character progressing and I wouldn’t like that to go away. It just feels too shallow from a character building perspective if gear is our only determinant of our power.

I've played solo for 90% of my 130h of gameplay. Was pretty much never attacked, while doing almost every activity in Phase 1 of Alpha 2. Instead, people invited me to parties on grind spots and just ran around with me when gathering stuff.
Now, I have heard that P2 on Vyra has become worse in that particular aspect, with more toxicity and mob training, but from what I've also heard it's mostly a party, or at least high value spots, thing. And as a solo player ya ain't ever farming those, so I don't think it'd be too big of a problem.
I also played a tank, which is considered the worst solo archetype, and I still had a ton of fun, simply because I didn't care that I was way slower than groupped players. If you're fine just taking it slow and enjoying the game for what it is - I think you can definitely play solo and do great.
