Re: Class Name Shorthand/Abbreviations - Predictions?
I think Ranger will be 'Brave Sir Robin' who was called to be 'Ran'. 😆
Re: For the love of casuals PLEASE
Yes, if you want to invest money in something, it's usually proper to do some research on what you're investing in.indigohaze wrote: »So I should have go to a wiki (that seems fairly obtuse every time I've looked at it) read it in detail before deciding that it's something I should invest time/money in and all the other data sources that show interesting crafting, a fairly expansive level of character customization and what is shaping up to be a large world (including the Website) which has all been thrown to the forefront of the attention grabbing 'marketing' should be secondary or even ignored? I would have figured that some of this info would be more prominent on the website itself as opposed to buried in a Game Design Document that no one outside of Auditors and Insomniacs is typically going to read
And if you're a richboi who doesn't care about the money - then don't complain when you learn that you've invested in something that holds no interest for you or is different from what you thought it would be.
And if you fall prey to the shiny dangling keys in front of your face, then I'm sure there are some bridge sellers who'd love to sell you a shiny bridge. There's been no real "marketing". There's only been Steven discussing his plans for what the game will be and then showing some of that on streams, all while saying TIME AND TIME AND TIME AND TIME AGAIN that "this is an Alpha, it's not a game, nothing is finished, all is work in progress, please don't buy if you want to play instead of test, etc etc etc".

Re: For the love of casuals PLEASE
The guy you quoted has in his signature the wiki since years lol.indigohaze wrote: »daveywavey wrote: »If you don't want the risk, then sell to the vendor. Nobody is forcing you to run caravans, which were always intended and announced as being no-Corruption PvP events.
Just wondering where that was announced or indicated to players? Cause I didn't know until I watched some high level just beating the crap out of noobs in the starting areas cause someone drove a cart through there....
https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Caravans
Your answer is a tricky one.
Steven and his team call us "testers" not players.
We are supposed to know what we get into when we pay for this game.
But many players had no time to read. They jump into the game because they see others playing it. Big streamers too.
So is normal to not know all the details and planned future game mechanics.

Re: The giant floating books
I love the big book. Very DnD. I hope later you get glowing runes coming off it. Some that look like they are on fire. And so on. Also my second fav weapon on my bard. Spell Bow is just too good.
Re: Grief system kills the game
It's not though. Mob AI is unfinished and Steven has literally said he doesn't want it the way it is right now. The corruption system is nowhere near finished. BHs don't exist. Wars don't work and/or are not fully implemented. High lvl content is not fully implemented, so high lvl players are bored and got nothing better to do than exploit unfinished designs. Crafting system is unfinished, which, at least in P1, was one of the other reasons for lvl25s to train people in HH, cause everyone wanted the drops from that location, even if you were at max lvl - all because crafting was lagging far behind the lvls.this is Stevens grand vision, love it or leave it....
In other words, the current situation is all about the unfinishedness of the game. For those who can't take this situation - take a break. Intrepid know about these issues and they're also still developing the game. Come back in a few months and check which of those issues have been resolved by that point.

Re: [Feedback] Why Ashes is currently destined to fail...
1. It's 8 archetypes.AirborneBerserker wrote: »the classes are generic, they only have 7 classes which is insanely low (EQ had 14 on launch).
2. Wow had 9 classes to play (8 per faction) at launch.
Not sure the number the classes mean anything by itself.
1. Splitting 1 class into two does not make a second class.
2. Replacing the word Class with Archetype dosen't make it different.
3. 9 classes each of which had 3 distinct fighting styles. This game does not and will not have that.
4. Your second point undermines your first point.
Why does your first point undermine you second point? I'm so glad you asked. Because archetypes are more generic then classes, they are a type of super-class. WoW Warriors, had three distinct builds, one of which was a Tank spec that is very similar to the tank class in this game. So even in your example the "Archtypes" don't behave like Archetypes they behave like classes. How do classes behave in RPG? Well they define your role, one of the archtypes is literally called tank, and they determine your primary skill set. Exactly what these archtypes do, they define your role and give you a skill set.

For now, I'd rather Intrepid work on giving the game a stronger foundation than making more classes/archetypes. It's fine the way it is now, but other archetypes should be able to tank and heal. Having only one archetype for these roles isn't nearly enough. Warrior could easily have a set of talents that let them tank and bard could have a pure healing build. Some people like playing mmos while only doing a single role all the time and they will get bored pretty quickly if they only have a single archetype to enjoy.
Classes are the foundation of the game. They determine how you interact with every system in the game, they determine your motivations, where you farm, what you farm, how you interact with other people, what mats you go after. Everything you do in the game is done through the lens of your class and what it can and can't do, and what it does and doesn't need.
The class system is the most important system of any RPG. And having a wide selection, either through customization, or wide class selection is extremely important, espically now since so many people have played the basic classes.
Drowning while logged off
Can we please turn of drowning while logged off. I lost a heroic Gryphon carcass because the game crashed as I jumped into a river on the way back from hunting. I don't mind as much when I lose materials because of pvp or poor decision making but it is really infuriating to lose it because of the game not working as it should.

JM Artisan Foods should NOT be sold by vendors
As someone trying to level up cooking, its absolutely soul-crushing seeing JOURNEYMAN FOOD being sold by a VENDOR for 47 COPPER. Thats literally the price of processing a SINGLE blackberry(not even the pie, just the blackberry). If this is only intended for testing in alpha... I mean OK, I *guess*, but announce that somewhere. It makes artisan skills trivial. Why?
Hunters Ragout:
1x Wyrmling Meat(JM hunting, JM Cooking)
1x Riverdance Otter Meat(AP Hunting, AP Cooking)
1x Bear Meat(NV Hunting, NV Cooking)
1x Onion(1x Braidwood Chips, 1x Droppings, 1x Water, + JM Lumberjacking, JM Lumbermilling, JM Farming)
1x Carrot(1x Weeping Willow, 1x Droppings, 1x Water, + AP Lumberjacking, AP Lumbermilling, AP Farming)
1x Aelan Spice(1x Daffodil, 1x Sundrop, 1x Pepper, + NV Herbalism, NV Cooking)
All that, not to mention the 9 minutes of processing time per unit = ONE SINGULAR HUNTER RAGOUT
.....So, tell me, is this RECIPE realistic? Should it be absolutely trashcanned by a FOURTY SEVEN COPPER VENDOR ITEM?!

....oh, and you know, you also need 5 JM node buildings...
If you want testers to test stuff, make it worth our time.

Right now i could play with EVERYTHING on Cinematic Weeks ago - cause Super-New Graphic Card and so on. But it still doesn't look as nice as in the monthly Presentations from the last Years -> and i hope they will upgrade the Live Game to that Standard sometime soon.

Please add an option to disable camera shake
The constant camera shake and forced camera movement of abilities is extremely dizzying and makes the game feel mentally exhausting to play especially over a long period of time.
I'm particularly photosensitive in general so I know I'm probably in a small minority of players. But the camera movement paired with how photosensitive unfriendly the game is already it unfortunately can make the game feel unplayable at times.
