The "Untouchable" city.

Now I don't mean that its entirely untouchable, but it will be damn near untouchable.

This will be a city that everyone on the server agrees to let grow and build and flourish until its a bustling metropolis that not even some of the more feared siege guilds will try to attempt, due to massive population defense and things of such. This will most likely be the noob city in some way, a city that's close to a starting portal that'll be considered a starting city. It'll have all the quest to help the new players and will be friendly with either inflated prices or fair prices on the AH/market.

Doesn't mean that siege guild wont attempt to destroy this said city, but what do you guys think? You think such a city will exist? If so, would you support it or hate it? Help defend it? Or burn it to the ground?

  • Nah, there will always be someone or some guild able to siege and win and if it DOES come to that i want to watch the world burn!!!
  • Well there is the possibility of 5 metropolises in the world. One of the other 4 (if not a combo of several) will attempt to level any such city. For my part Im sure many of us will contribute to building several different metropolises and ultimately choose one to be loyal to. Meaning I will be taking part in destroying some cities that I might have helped along at one point. In any MMO though, youre not going to have ONE city that the ENTIRE server says "Eh, we'll let that one live and fight among the other four"

  • Lets see it this way. I think that we, the first players, should help the beginers, that comes later, so the starting city is a good idea. At the other hand, there is no need for this city to be metropolis, for there will be only 5 possible. That's what I think.
  • I think this is one of the things that will make each server "unique" in some way. Some of these choices will vary depending on the players/guilds on each server. I already know alliances are being made between certain guilds to help gain "control" in one way or another.
  • I like the idea of being dropped into the world with nothing, however maybe an optional instances tutorial that shows the feel of the game prior to the drop.
  • I feel like nodes will build up quickly near the starting portal to begin with first at least so when new players do join they will have a large town to start with at least before they set off into the world.
  • Every expansion since year dot requires building a starting base of operation and then s supply line to enable ever more remote bases.
    The same will probably happen here.

    People will come in from 4 gates on opposing areas of the map.
    Those players will build a local base of operation.
    Then they will expand.
    When they meet in the middle...well...who knows how far each would have developed by that point.
    Whether the will cooperate or fight.
    In fighting aside.
  • I think its contrary to the concept of the game to agree on one untouchable city.
    People will build up the nods they are interested in, the group up, the expand, they conquer regions and get displaced by other groups. This "naturals flow" will make every server unique.
    An untouchable City would just block this process. Personally I will not support such a project.
  • Its a nice idea, but if it were to work, i think the highest it could be would perhaps be a town? Having it be one of the 5 metropolis' seems a bit irrational considering the concept of the game of destruction leading to creation & so on. But it is an interesting prospect none the less. New players should have a place they can feel safe at when first learning the game.
  • I don't think the game systems will allow for a city to be completely safe. That being said, I could see great benefits for whichever guild would be able to capture the most well developed and established metropolis in the game, if anything, that would intensify the competition.
  • Seeing as the whole metro idea is dynamic and will constantly change I don't see a metro becoming a 'noob city' but there is a possibility of a lower level node becoming a noob area of sorts. Perhaps even a cluster of free holds offering free or dirt cheap access to resources and facilities out in the middle of no where for noobs to gather. possibly operated by a guild.
