The Dreaded Gold Farmer Bots

I know the developers wouldn't want to say how they plan to combat this since they don't want to give the enemy any ideas. But I'm curious if they have a solid plan to deal with the dreaded gold farmers, RMT bots. They plague all MMO's especially the successful ones and really the only sure fire cure is if players don't buy from them starving them out of any possible market.

But that won't happen, people are impatient and don't like working their own way up and like having stuff now and not latter. I've just seen too many good MMO's destroyed by this problem. Even ones with subscriptions have issues.

  • Not true. I know some ppl using bots because they love game but because of full time job and real life doesnt have time to play so long so they play it 1-2 hours a day and after that they start botting. Ofc there is different types of botters:

    1. Ppl who want to get profit
    2. Ppl who dont care they just want to bot
    3. Ppl who dont have time to play but they want to have char with same lvl and gear like players who are playing 8h+
  • There is no game entirely without bots. Some games have really good detection systems, others have a great team that is dedicated to finding the botters. It is inevitable in any MMO. Starting out though there probably wont be many, if any at all. There will be the odd person that does it just to see if they can implement the code to do it, but large scale botters, as haki said, need a market.
  • Honestly there will always be bots. No matter what any game developer says, bot-detection isn't the easiest thing to implement into a game.

Seriously?? If the people do not have the time to play the game and advance due to RL restrictions then it obviously is not the game for them.
Jesus this silver spoon in mouth mentality of todays society ... sheesh!

Obviousl you can't get rid of bots entirely, but the Devs should an them wherever they yurface. Bots ruin the whole gameplay for a majority of people who play this game as much for the PvE content as for the social interction with other people.
  • When it comes to subscription-based games, a lot of it falls to the community. Most gold-selling businesses that use bots used hacked accounts to avoid detection and the subscription fees. Yes the game developers can put in systems to help prevent hacking, but a lot of the time accounts get hacked because people don't take proper precautions to protect their accounts.

Now of course no game is without bots, but we as the community need to take responsibility for this too, not just expect the devs to magically protect the game from bots.
  • This sort of subject is something that could and will be something that every level of the Ashes of Creation team will discuss to try and have a solution to. But I want to make something clear about really things that have been taken into consideration here. If we all love the game that comes out, and Enjoy the content. I think It will be up to the Dev Team to think up ways to make it so Gold Farmers Can't just Have Free Reign of the place. Some things that could help is Delays on being able to trade player to player, Also Delays on being able to Mail to Players. But I think Best of all is Active GM support for the Servers that will help People feel like when they report a Gold Farmer Bot that it will actually Matter. I feel like having 4 to 5 GMs Per Server is a good Number that I feel like the Devs Should shoot for ( This would cover Morning Day Night and Overflow I.E Peak Hours) Just a few Ideas from a Fan of MMOs. Have a nice day folks.
  • I work a full time job, and i'm against it.
If it was legal i would be botting 24/7.
Heck free loot doing no effort at all?
  • Any bot is a game killer. Dont care if you call them alts or multibox alts they all add up to one thing, Inflation. That in turn kills your ability for player churn ( old players leave new players join ) to happen. So basically killing them all with out mercy is the only solution that will keep the game fun for everyone. I think it should be headed by GM's and player assisted.

GM should always be there to help but players should help themselves by reporting bots / exploits etc.
  • Those who using botting deserve to get banned. Simple is that.
But as any kind of cheat, you end up getting bored because of all the cheat you have made.

    How do I know this?
Many of my friends have done so, and end up leaving the game after a short while, after they have started cheating.

I won't do it, even if it were legal.

I just hope the community help catching those who use this kind of cheat, and not just lift there shoulders and move on.

    What he said :)
  • I cheated in pokemon go and stopped playing the next day.
  • Starve the gold sellers of cash. they'll leave. report any and all bots.
this is our role. just do it properly and leave the rest to intrepid.
  • BOTS ONLY WORK because of vertical progression systems.
Same reason players pay people to play their account.
Same reason people use multibox scripts.
    Progress = power.
So 24/7 365 progress grants you a wealth of power in the game system.

Do away with the power advantage generated through vertical progressions...
...use horizontal progressions systems instead that grant a 'limited choice' of 'infinite balanced options'.
And you make the BOTs effects on everyone else, irrelevant.

Yes the bots will still progress quicker than everyone else.
But they have no advantage over anyone else...no matter how far or fast they progress.
For exactly the same reasons VETs will have no advantage over new players with horizontal progression.
They will be highly tuned, specialist, unique builds....but 'alternative' and not 'superior' builds.

If you wanted to go extreme and apply horizontal progression to the economy.
    1. You can only earn X gold / timespan.
    2. Each tier nodes take progressively higher tax.
Think of it like a maximum wage.
No one gets to control the worlds future by having the biggest bank and controlling who gets loans and manipulating those in debt.
  • I'd like to see in game gms with a one button ban ability. They see a gold spammers post in chat simply click their name and press the ban button. Non gold selling bots might be a bit harder to spot but if someone never logs out and spends 12+ hours doing the same activities every day there's got to be a way to track that

Disclaimer I have zero programing knowledge so I don't have any clue how hard it would actually be in practice, just seems like a simple concept
  • @Darthaden
There would still be banned people crying that they were legit playing the game manually 24/7.
And no doubt find people to back them up.
    ;)
  • Imagine a metropolis based on economy and controlled by gold buyers from gold farmers. Game death from corruption once again. Hope Devs will really be on the ball to eradicate it when it surfaces or another mmo down the tube.
