Network and Code changes
Hello everyone,
I just learned about this game and must say it looks and sounds great so far.
I stumbled over two things however, that instantly made my stomach cramp in desperation lol. Recoding an engine as well as the network part in order to accumulate for the big scale of an MMO.
Coming from Star Citizen this just brings up all the concerns I have with that game.
For anyone who does not know about Star Citizen, they took the CryEngine, completely rewrote it to accumulate for the large scale of an MMO and up to now still try to rewrite the Netcode part to actually work.
Current effect is large desync, lag spikes, lag in general etc. etc.
Question is, how much of an impct will your rewrite have, e.g. will it be as big as SC drama or have you already accomplished it and all is working as it should?
Would be great to get some answers to these questions!

Mmorpgs don't have much of a problem with lag as they use far less resources.
Don't be let down by other companies mistakes and worker incompetence.
When working on my games I even use Unity. I wrote my own server and it handled up to 600 connected player objects in once scene before showing many negative results. Then again this was a completely different type of game, so It's not much compared to what an MMO is expected to handle. But it is just an example. I barely knew what I was doing and for a small project, that's not bad. I only took 2 Network Design and Game Theory classes. Imagine the employees at Intrepid, who have all mostly worked on large MMO titles, they have 10000x more experience than I do.
Don't sweat it, Intrepid has got this.
As @doford said above, I didn't account for the less sophisticted setting on an MMO in comparison to SC.
Just checked the Team page as well and seems like there is a lot of knowledge in that team. Defenitely decreaes my worries a bit but to be fair, and I mean no offense by this, I have heard all those arguments before.
Defenitely gonna follow this game and see where it takes us all as the setting, the graphics and the systems described sound awesome. Looking forward to seeing all that first hand and dive into that world. Lets hope Intrepid can accomplish everything they want to.
Fingers crossed from me!
