[Suggestion] Combat system
Simple game? Simple combat mechanics?
Do you want a redundant combat system, which only requires 1 button, or just simple mouse clicking to you win? If not, then keep reading !
Have a combat system that is not as simple as just mouse clicking and moving around. Make it more complex; if not planned already, add a combo system where one's own abilities are highlighted, and essential to winning.
how would it work?
Players will be able to not just mouse click, but also use keys such as ''z'', ''x'', and what not to combine in their attacks and skills in ground and during mid-air/aerial combos resulting in a more intense combat where the most skilled win. For example, you can use Elsword's PvP system, which isn't that great, but it reflects the idea of creating combos that includes rolling, launching the opponent, and whatnot. If not, take a look at Final Fantasy XV, it does reflect the same idea of combos that delivers exciting combat.
Indeed, this system would rely in one's own APM(Action per minute). One's own APM will be able to allow players to take combat to a whole new level, where new combos will be created, and the intensity will increase ! However, it will require some quick fingers, high APM(Depending on the combo created by players). For example, let's take a look at Elsword (again), in pvp, or the game itself there is a move called sprint/spring step, which is not a skill, it is a move created by players in which the person have to press the arrow keys quick enough in order to move faster than it is intended(If you need visual look up in youtube ''Elsword spring step'').
Of course, this system will not only benefit the offensive side of the spectrum but also the defensive and evasive sides !
This will allow players to block the opponent's attack as quick as possible, or evade them.
Feel free to add more to make the most exciting combat system that has ever existed in gaming.

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm trying to shut your discussion down, that's definitely not it, just posting my two cents regarding how I feel about such a discussion based on my believe that a combat overhaul wouldn't happen at this point. I also wanted to point you to the existing information, so you could have a clearer idea of what it might be once it's finished.

Actually, I already read the doc and I'm aware of it; however if you take a look at ''Ashes of creation - War - Combat First Look'' in the document, then you scroll down to the comment section, usually the first that talk about how horrible the combat is, you can see in the reply from them that they stated the following: ''Thanks! Our FX and animations for combat are still in pre-production, this was meant to be a first look of our development :)''
Even though it is 4 months old, we can assume that they are still in progress in the area. Therefore, we can HOPE that they take this into consideration. afterall, this is the alpha stage, right? They can still make changes. If the community wants it, why wouldn't they do it? They even stated ''we are going for a proprietary blend of targeting and action, that might not have been seen before.''
Thanks for the feedback though, keep it up !

No problem man, just trying to blend in, it's good to see that you're an informed community member.
I was indeed aware of the video, it was actually around Christmas that I found out about AoC. I might have been unclear on something, I did not mean that they would completely ignore suggestions as they continue to develop and perfect their system, I meant that if the suggestions differ too much from the path they have decided on and are already pursuing, it would be unlikely to happen. Naturally, like you mentioned, if there is a very strong outcry from the community, I'm sure they'll change it, I was speaking on a level of individual suggestions that would imply big changes. Crowfall changed its' combat at a certain point, I believe. Personally, I would love full on action combat, but am whiling to settle for a well built mix, as long as the other aspects of the game make up for it.

No problem man, I'm glad to see that you're an informed member of the community.
I actually knew about the video, yes, it was one of the first AoC videos I saw. I very much agree with what you said, if there was an outcry from the community they would certainly change the basis of the combat system. Crowfall did it, for example. I did not mean that they would completely ignore suggestions, that would be foolish. I meant that if individual suggestions differ too much from the selected path they are developing and pursuing right now, they probably will never be implemented. I also have faith in the mixed combat they are creating, I'm usually a full action combat guy, but I'm willing to let go of that if the remaining game elements are amazing.
I hope you keep making suggestions early on, it's definitely when it is most important.

BDO was terrible. So you know, when you cant press tap hold 3 or 4 buttons at the same time, it kind of sucks.

Yea, it kind of sucks. I do play BDO aswell, so I'm familiar with your struggle.
[quote quote=11484]I personally haven’t played much games involving combos on extreme level for this, but I would definitely agree it would add more depth to your combat especially situational. Do you think skills, or abilities from his her class/race could affect this as well? An example would be using your spring step, could a rogue or a ranger who’s more dexterous compared to a tank or a cleric, be able to improve by evening extending the range and speed of it. Which I think would come back to just your skills for your class at that point, a mage just teleporting or a ranger dashing over something. I just think if it was implemented, it would be cool if it varied from their class skills and change it depending on their combination for their character :). Overall I think it would be sweet nonetheless.

Yea, indeed it could affect skills, or abilities. For example, allowing animation cancel would be one of them. I'm not sure about race though.
Thanks for the feedback s!
