Regarding the safety of the game

I do realise the topic is likely misleading, but here I wish to take about the game's safety itself, not your bank details safety.
What really worries me is that this game will eventually fell prey to the vicious grip of the botting community, dragging it down to the p2w zone and destroying the game. I understand steven is completely against this and will give his best efforts, but there are other games which have attempted the following, but failed nonetheless. While steven and his team are really dedicated to prevent this, but we as a community still need to assist. so, here I'd like to unite all our ideas, of what we, as a community can contribute to remove batters and gold sellers, from this game. feel free to add your own ideas, point out potential flaws, so on so forth.
ok, so to get started off, here are my ideas.
1. Abuse the open PvP system. just go to a site where there may be potential bots and just go randomly attack people there. non-pvp will certainly be mad at you, but they should flee or fight back. a bot on the other hand, can barely fight back. so just wear trash gear, and go kill the bot. that will disorient and make it easy to catch. or you could stop and report.

2. gold sellers usually hang out in busier locations, so visit them on a regular basis, if you hear one, report right away.

3.this is probably a dick move, and will hurt the company a little bit in the short run, but it's worth it.discourage people from the p2w aspect. or just make them rage quit. you know, the people who fight for gold buying and botting, they believe it's fair. while not all of them are an issue, the ones who buy gold will allow the bot system to get traction and the business it needs. this can spiral out of control in no time.

4.assist newbies. first off, more friends! more troops for your node! new potential guildie! everything!Second, from what I've seen in my previous game, one of the groups prone to becoming a bot/ gold buyer are the newbies, who really want to catch up but can't catch up with the top tier. they may resort to bot/gold buying for that all important boost. simple way to eliminate that potential opening is to boost them ourselves. not just grinding assistance. give them advice as a senior, suggest missions they can partake in which are highly likely to succeed, so on so forth. make them feel useful! important! strong! maybe they are not, but that will help them past the turbulent waters legit.

for people who think botting and gold selling is ok:
you play an MMORPG to be part of a community. If you are playing it for the sense of achievement and success, you're probably better off in a single player game. but seriously, how do you plan on keeping the alpha status if you cannot even play long enough? besides, steven also told you should have fair amount of skill and timing to be a top dog. might hurt your hardcore gamer's pride, but if you need to purchase gold, you cannot remain hardcore. please don't spoil the experience for others. casual gaming is a lot of fun, too. you do not have to be the very best! just hang out with people! or step back and enjoy the graphics! whatever you wish! it's a sandbox, why should you focus your attention in one thing when you have the whole world full of content.

people who plan to make this a bot business and gold selling:
just DON'T. trust me, you'll face a lot of problems.

EVERYONE! thank you for reading. if you have any other ideas, post them here. thanks and have a great day!-Iro

  • Enough player moderators who can tend to lesser offences like spam promoting gold sites and bots.

that's a good point, but that's something the intrepid has to decide.
we on our own can hunt bots (like I said) and spammers.
also, they are not lesser offences. they are the killers I wish to stop on their tracks.
  • Irobot i like what your saying here..

Also Multi-Box IS P2Win no different the cash shop or gold seller.
  • All of this! I just wish gold sellers would stay away from every game online I have ever played, they are like roaches gangnabbit! They kill all the fun..now every newbie I see I'll probably jump on lol. I am hoping they have a way of seeing how players are "playing" if something fishy is going on, like Jon Doe had no cash and suddenly is swimming in gold there's something going on. Having a weekly character sweep or a quick "are you a bot?" What have you so it can divide the real from the fake would be great! If there is a mailing system, maybe having some sort of sensor about what is going through them? "I get these things the actual creators will have to implement" but it would be so wonderful to have a game that stays a game....and not made into a cash cow. Ugh...makes me so sad to see so many games ruined just because money makes people crazy!! Any who...I kinda went off on a tangent there *sorry????* I just really want what all you said yo happen and for people in this game, if they truly love it, to help weed out those fun killers....
  • Having multiple accounts is not pay to win as long as the person who is using the accounts is using them without the help of botting programs, automation. The benefit would be if the mechanics of the game allow it. I have used multiple accounts before, without automation and I am against botting as well as gold selling/buying.

ok so what exactly do you call people I described above? they consider p2w as a fair thing?

I myself am guilty of using alts, I'm not saying they are wrong. I was mislead somewhere to believe multi-boxing meant you supported p2w. ,y bad, corrected my wording now. can we stop steering off topic?
  • On a game that will operate on a subscription basis there is no reason for them to change into a p2w model, not unless they cannot hold any players with their game, which then would be a failed game, and if AoC delivers the systems it has promised so far, it will not be a failed game.

Clearly, you have not read my post fully, inspite of me trying to make it neat and readable. Also, I'll guess you fairly new to the community, based on the fact you don't seem to know about the dev team.
    so first off, welcome!
second, you are straying away from the intent of this thread. Steven is absolutely anti-p2w, so you don't have to worry about the game changing it to p2w. instead, here we are discussing what we, as a community can do to help steven and the GMs with weeding out cheaters, botters and others who spoil the game, who make it an unofficial p2w
  • @Irobot

Allow me to clear some assumptions you've made. First, not really that new into the community, but I thank your welcome. I am absolutely aware of the intentions of the development team and I have been informed on Steven's point of view about a pay to win model before.
Furthermore, I believe my point was made very distinctly, I was merely approaching one very specific part of your post, perhaps what I thought was evident, was not so, and thus I apologize, and so, I quote:<em> "What really worries me is that this game will eventually fell prey to the vicious grip of the botting community, dragging it down to the p2w zone and destroying the game. I understand Steven is completely against this and will give his best efforts, but there are other games which have attempted the following, but failed nonetheless"</em> I had hoped to point out how I don't see this happening whatsoever, because they will most likely have no financial need to, and also not the will. I mentioned no more of the topic at hand, not as a dismissal of your idea for gathering community effort to achieve the healthiest society possible, but as a silent agreement. I only meant to clear any deep fear regarding a hypothetical p2w model that you might have.

I hope this has cleared any confusion regarding my post.
  • My only hope is that the developers care about security holes being closed or at least monitored and people getting punished by using these security holes. Some ArcheAge problems were there from the Korean beta to the western release version and beyond without anyone - not XLGames nor Trion - caring about them.

Also I hope that reports are taken seriously and false reports will get players punished as well. Player moderation can work if you punish those (temp and perm bans with no regard of the cash they spent on the game) who abuse their power (maybe also award them if they do it right to prevent abuse in the first place).

Also you are right about the ingame presence. I don't really know if it is that hard to run an instance of the game and check the chats for bots every half hour or so as support staff or what ever. I mean get rid of the spam bots and post a greeting as server wide announcement to the players and boom.... player will see you are there and actively trying to get things done.

Would be cool to see this getting pulled off.
  • I am guessing Irobot used to be an archeage player :)

Now remember that there are people in his world who do nothing but sell gold for a living. It will be a constant fight to identify and remove them. This isn't a battle that the devs or gm's can ever win it just one they have to keep fighting . I feel like the economic nodes are going to suffer the most here. the turning point will be the community. If you reporting gold farm bots or the leader of a pvp group who intends on wiping out a gold farmer nest its all going to help. I think as long as we all work together we can keep the game safe.

I dont know that we can stop gold farmers but we can make it so difficult that gold farmers have to charge so much no one wants their product. Then make the risk high enough to the players buying the gold that they also are not willing to risk it.
  • other idea.. Rewards system

Find someway to reward players for reporting/killing bots and gold sellers like i dont know Bot head on pike for your house or Bot Ganker title or something cool.

reporting the leader of the PvP group? that doesn't seem right. oh maybe for rewards?

LOL not asking what else devs can do.
  • yea kinda sucky writing on my part i wouldnt report him i would have the gm's give him one of those bot heads on pikes or something :)
  • I've said this before and I'll say it again. The responsibility for security in this game lies with the players as much as the devs. The majority of gold sellers in subscription mmorpgs use hacked accounts to farm and advertise, and while the devs can put systems in place to prevent this, ultimately the security of our account info is our responsibility. The devs could put in enough security for Fort Nox and it wouldn't matter if you were a complete idiot and gave away your account details to someone on the internet! Take the necessary steps to avoid getting hacked, and you have helped prevent a gold seller from ruining our game.

Then of course we have the responsibility to control our own greed. Gold sellers won't bother with a game if there are no clients to work with. If the community doesn't let their greed control them, the gold selling companies won't bother with the game. It's not worth the risk for them.
