Risks and challenges

These are our promises to you:

* To continue our open development process with you, our backers, on our website and Discord channels.

* And finally, in the case that Ashes of Creation does NOT launch, we promise to refund all backers in full.

Loosely worded with no time frame to hold accountable. Does this mean that if the project does not launch one can hide behind the 'continue our open development process' in an infinite time frame, thus never REALLY having to refund any cash as the project is still questionably in development?

Without a wording as 'we will refund you at any given point, up until 'X' date, or will refund you in full provided the product code or however they work it is used - I see some highly grey areas.

Food for thought.

  • Well, consider the DEVELOPER's grey areas for once. the guy is taking on this massive project, let's take this case. he promises to refund in a year after expected release(Dec 2019).
they will have to return probably $1,000,000+ if they hit a major bug. Say it's almost done the dev is going to be badly broke, and in debt, with no way to get out of the mud. they'd have spent all their loan money refunding.
that's why. no one is telling you not to spend. so yeah. don't spend if you don't feel up to it.

But it isnt grey at all, as you eloquently pointed out. As long as development is in process they dont have to refund you anything. Its not loosely worded at all, it just lacks a specific date. Thats a problem , clearly for you but I certainly wasnt expecting them to have a guaranteed refund date.
  • To both the comments above, your salt level is noted appropriately. Sorry I am pointing out some seemingly questionable text. Another post qusetioning the actual stages of development, opposed to some fancy UE4 bought and stitched together to make a video also faced some salt. Its to be expected when people want to see what they want to see, opposed to asking , and then receiving some clarity.
    Never hurts to ask questions.
