My idea for fishing

Fishing is a staple in almost every mmo out there but I've yet to play a mmo with a fun fishing system and I'm really hoping Ashes can change that. I want a fishing system that actually simulates fishing instead of just clicking a mouse button to catch a fish.

K so here's my idea

first thing a player would need to do is look for fish jumping in the water and identify what type of fish it is by its looks and location. Once you know what type of fish your going after pick your bait accordingly. Once your all ready a cast strength bar and direction bar come up, once you've clicked both bars your toon casts the bait (hopefully near the fish and away from snags) once the cast is off hold left mouse button to reel in your line and move the mouse to the left or right to try to pull your bait one way or the other in order to avoid snags and to try to cross the path of the fish your trying to catch. If the fish bites hit right mouse button to set the hook and continue to hold left mouse button to reel ( but be careful if you try to reel in to fast you might break your line or your fish might spit out the hook....if its getting close to getting away hit the right mouse button again to try to reset the hook) Once the fish gets close enough to you right mouse button will become the net button and you've got your fish

something along these lines would make fishing its own little mini game and way less tedious then it is in most mmos

I'm not really into fishing myself, but this sounds interesting. I just have a quick question that I thought of; it seems it would become quite hard to fish with such a system, so how do you reward the fishers? Are the fish OP in a food sense? or? Basicly how do you make it worth it for both fishermen and the people using it for food afterwards. From my perspective it would kinda seem that people might go for veggies or cattle instead of fishing if it becomes too hard.

But keep in mind that I never really do cooking or fishing, it was just the first thought that popped into my head ;)

The closest to the real thing(and this guys got it spot on) the more relaxing it will be, i just played it to relax and still do sometimes. Now imagine this in a High fantasy setting where AoC is ... could be Epic just login fish and relax while chat whit your clan etc... do some trades... after a long day coming back from work.

Since they will have some naval combat, i really hope they will implement fishing ships. The arther away from land you are and the deeper you go the berrer fish, or more quality fish you get.
I really want to fish a penguin, herd they are great grilled :P

[/quote] If they choose to use my Fishing system (which they're free to do so without me expecting compensation lol) I have a simple solution to this concern of yours

low level easy to catch fish like a trout assuming you have decent skill and a good pole would take a matter of seconds to catch and you'd be able to simply ignore most of the fighting the fish mechanics (after all if your fishing for trout in real life with a pole used to catch a shark it wouldn't put up much fight) however small fish like a trout would only provide 1-2 fish fillets.

A fish like a salmon would put up a bit more of a fight but would provide around 10 fillets

A shark on the other hand would put up a much more significant fight but reward 50+ fillets for a single fish

in the end be it my system or something else I just want to see some thought put into fishing. I think fishing is a activity with huge potential that's been missed by every other mmo I've ever played
