Freeholds and what they mean to the solo gamer (or micro guilds)
Starting at Pioneer level, the kickstarter rewards offer a "Freehold Appearance Bundle". To me this seems to be a pretty average buy-in tier for most backers, yet I was under the impression that to construct a freehold would require a group effort. This reward seems to be a bit more personal, than something exclusive to a guild leader.
The root of my question is, for those of us in very small guilds or.. who *gasp* play alone, how would we benefit from the "Freehold Appearance Bundle" if we're unable to construct a freehold? It also seems like there will be a lot more people with appearance bundles than freeholds (or maybe im wrong and there will be room for a freehold for all, which seems unrealistic)

Make some friends and play with other people honestly. You might be thinking you are going to always play solo but it likely will be an inefficient way of playing. I am not saying there will not be solo content but they will design this game in such a way that if you want to try to build your own node it will be impossible. That means you need to work with other people. Add to that the risk of just playing in the world alone, you will have players that will kill you while you are playing solo. If you are going to be looking for people to play with let me know.
My point was more along the line of, what are we going to use all of these appearance packs for if we dont have control of the freehold? I have no problems finding a guild, but id assume any freehold we might construct is going to use someone elses appearance pack, likely the guild leaders.
However, the appearance packs now seem very common. I should have asked if these would possibly be of any use to an individual and not so much guild only
(Disclaimer: I agree kickstarters are for supporting a vision, not getting free lootz, but now Im curious)

im interested in how flexbile player housing and freeholds are going to be. Its what prompted me to ask this. Seeing how common the appearance packs might be based on KS rewards gave me some hope that there will be a lot of options for *individual* players when it comes to housing and freeholds.
I read where they said to build "freehold" housing, the zone node has to be level 3 - so maybe that is requirement to build anywhere in node zone first, before can build permanent structures?
Or maybe just housing around the main village requires this level 3, which is linked to the village/town etc ,but can still build separate individual houses/structures elsewhere in zone. Kinda unsure at this stage exactly how it works.
Still up to change etc, but what it sounds like to me is can build anywhere in zone and will be options for solo/small guild players.
"Housing
Players will have the ability to survey and develop land anywhere in the world. Be a pioneer deep in the wilderness, build the home of your dreams, and work the land to cultivate resources and supplies. Alternatively, stick with civilization and safety in numbers – purchase a home within the confines of a village and watch your investment grow as that village turns into a city.
Homeowners in our game will have the ability to develop their plot of land as they see fit. Focus on farming, animal husbandry, or own your very own smithy. You’ll be able to specialize your land to maximize your profits or your comfort – be sure to choose wisely."

Yeah that's something I would like to know as well. It's one thing to be able to build something out in the wild but if anyone can just come along and destroy it while you aren't there that kinda sucks.
I'd love to build a freehold, but it might also be unprotected, like "free-" implies. Perhaps if you put up some "defences" when you go away or log out, it cannot be attacked (maybe only during node siege), so you have to spend resources to keep it safe.
