Modding Armor & Weapons

Hello just wondering if it would be possible to mod crafted weapons and armor or add such a feature to the game

Comments

  • What do you mean when you use the term 'modding'? Is it adding colors, making alterations in terms of looks and model, or what is it exactly that you mean?
  • like you say, it's modify the model or texture of the item or weapon or armor.
  • This is basicly wayyyy to early to say, but I'd imagine no. I believe the devs wanna keep Ashes of Creation a straight "stand alone game" and not give to much modding oppotunity.
  • i dont think you will have the ability to "mod" your weapons etc.

    that would create unnecessary issues, and think of all the hours the dev's put into models etc, all that would be basicly wasted :(

    This!
    Not a fan of modded armour. It might look good on you but it can cause problems as well.
    I would instead love maybe monthly / weekly contests. Players ould draw / show / describe their favourite armour, with a contest or voting, with luck your armour might be featured next month in an event or as a price. Thoughts?

  • Ooo i like that, @Zention good idea ;)
  • Design content is the most time consuming aspect.
    If you can leverage you userbase to save time in anyway...why not ?
    Doesn't stop the devopers tidying stuff up before release...or offering templates

    Especially if you wanna stick to some theme. I see a danger in having such contests, that the devs will feel obligeed to pick one even though they dont really like it. If there ain't any they really like, so they just pick one.

    In general such competetions can be real fun, as long as they don't feel that they need to pick a winner and implement it nomatter what. If they stick to their theme and dont comprimise with quality I'm all for it :)
  • I thought someone mentioned somewhere about the idea of dyeing armor? I could be wrong. However there are going to be a cosmetic items so i'm sure those will hold us over.
  • The OP isn't talking about modding the game files to add armor. He's talking about transmogging. Either that or stuff like socketed gems and such. Being able to tailor your equipment to yourself.

    that would make sense, i think it got lost in translation

    Makes a lot of sense if that was what he meant, but honestly didn't understand it at all before now. To me "modding" means something external (most of the time anyway).

    Likewise.

    @rune_relic

    Ah, I see.

    @julemanden

    Hmm, I understand your concerns. Okay, what about making it a community event? Since we don't know anything about races and their looks let's change my suggestion a little bit!

    - A theme! Devs could set a 'general competition theme' or they could give us three themes to choose from.
    - A race! If designing gear for every single race is too bothersom, let's do it in cycles.
    - Event period are two weeks.
    - Post your idea on the forums. Players can vote for these ideas / concepts. Devs can choose the three best concepts!
    - After two weeks, we can maybe buy it from a vendor or obtain it through Costume Tickets.

    Creative minds would have the chance to share their creativity with the community. Plus, could we please all agree on, costumes are endgame! At the end of the day, we all want our characters to look badass. I would consider this idea a nice addition to the overall Community-Dev relationship.

    Your thoughts?

    Addendum: Since I know that the forum can become toxic at times, Forum Mods could do the job of keeping everything safe and sound. So, asparing artists who don't "meet the standard" won't be insulted or accosted.

  • @Zention
    Naturally such competetions would have a theme and such. But my concern still stands if for some reason it just ain't good enough, they might still feel they have to choose it. It might be fixed if the devs go like "Concept art contest" since they can just modify the design as much as they like, since its only a concept ;) (<-- that would also give people like me a chance).
  • @Julemanden

    Ah, now I understand. Sure, 'concepts' are fine as well, I guess. I personally just like the general idea behind a community having a say in costumes and such.
    P.S.: I would vote for you!! :*
