Under the Mountain...

I am leaning towards playing as a Dwarf. This leads me to my question.

Will there be a Node underground or in the mountains that could lead to an underground city?

• Something like a Dwarven Karak from WH?
• We have this from concept art if that means anything:

This might not be a node city; this might be a castle (separate entity within the world), or something else entirely. However, we do know that "coastal nodes" will be possible meaning that nodes will likely not have to conform to completely flat, square-ish terrain. Hopefully we will have a good amount of variety for nodes racially and geographically. I share your desire for architectural design and varied environments. All we have so far is speculation though. If you want to, visit the Ashes of Creation subreddit and enter your question for an upcoming Q&A stream that will be happening on the Ashes of Creation Twitch channel every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 3 p.m. PDT for the duration of the Kickstarter event.

• Well there will be caves. Where they lead is anyones guess.
Good question to ask intrepid on discord.

We know little about above ground, under ground, above water, under water and even in the air.
The joys of pre alpha. Would be nice to get more info.
• nodes are something that as players work an area npcs show up and bring a small camp, then town, city, etc. so dont see why a dwarven hall couldnt work too.

if one is in a mountainous zone, players work the area, a camp of dwarven npcs could show up in the foothills of a mountain area and as the place increases it opens an underground grand hall cityscape leaving the early camp area as an outside market interface to outsiders type of deal.

does have the issue of not really being siege-able so perhaps mountain strongholds can only be partially embedded so there's outside structures to siege and walls to bring down. however would be interesting if each area had different possible cities that offered varying strengths and weaknesses.

• Which makes sense when you read the description of the Dunir, and even when you read the description of the other Dwarves, it refers to the Dunir living in "a cave". So it would be very surprising to have a race that's meant to be underground/in caves and then NOT have the game cater for that...!
• What happens under the mountain stays under the mountain....

Yiss! So I can totally make a dunir, wander until I find underground node (I bet there will be some indication that a place is a node location) and help create a city there!
