[Question] Lore & pre-release buildup
Hi Steven & Intrepid,
Will we see some sort of ebooks/ecomics/e-anythings that will help build up lore of the world so players can get more invested in it before game release date and also have a better understanding of why things have happened / are happening in game?
It would be good to have something that enables players to be entertained by the world before it is released as well. Also will encourage players to care more about the world and races they are going to be playing in AoC. imho. :)
also some cool desktop wallpapers and images etc wouldnt go too far wrong
Thanks,

Firstly, I expect that we will know a crap ton of more info game-wise and lore-wise when the game approaches its final release.
Secondly, I highly recommend that you visit the Ashes of Creation subreddit and submit a question to the stream Q&A that will be happening tomorrow and the following weeks. Or visit the discord and ask a dev through the #ask_intrepid channel.
But, remember... both KOA and EQNext (and even Revival) shared a lot of really great lore with the fans... and ended up with no game.
I'd prefer the devs to focus more on developing the game rather than wasting time writing fiction.
EQN having people writing fiction for them had absolutely nothing to do with the massive fail that game became. that is all on Daybreak and their crappy ideas about what people want as well as laying off tonnes of staff and leaving nothing to work with. And the lame excuse that they couldnt live up to what htey claimed they wanted to do. I dont know about KOA but I doubt it had anything to do with fiction being written for the fans.
Most of these games should already have a massive amount of lore created... otherwise it is going to be a really dull game. Aka "may as well be an Asian MMO"
And why not stories about the worlds we're leaving... would be good to know our background there as well. Rather than "we just miraculously appear and lose all of our history and knowledge from other world".
Plus with myths and stories about the ancient (now new) world you can get some great fiction. I am not talking War and Peace length novels but some short story type things would be nice. :)
Or maybe if there are people in the community who are budding writers or have a flair for that sort of thing maybe some lore can shared with them to enable them to write fan-fiction?
But, the failure of EQN was being sidetracked by and wasting time and assets on endeavors that didn't follow the core blueprint.
Moorgard was a designer; not just a loremaster. So, time spent writing and editing e-books was time not spent helping bring implement feature designs.
Knowing the background of the world is meaningless if the game never gets made.
I am well-versed in the lore of Amalur, EQNext and Revival... but those games are vaporware.
I would much rather have the devs focused on getting Founders playing in early access and then crank out some lore to share.
But, really, it's probably best to wait until headstart/launch.
I love devouring lore - but, finishing the game is way more important.
Difficult enough to hit game dev deadlines without extraneous distractions like pre-launch e-books/stories.
The devs are not going to share lore with non-employees and they'd have to pay people writing official fiction.
Fan storytellers can make fan-fiction if they wish. I did so for Revival while it was in development. And the Revival loremaster was thrilled.
