How will be the leadership on a node?

Greetings from Spain :)

First of all congratulations on the success of Kickstarter!

My question is how can a player become the leader of a node? Can be elected "democratically" (haha)?
What are the benefits or disadvantages / risks of being the leader? How will this affect the guild? What responsibilities/power will the leader have?

I hope the community grows and grows because this game is going to be worth it!!!!

  • There are going to be 4 types of nodes that will be created in the world. They can either be Military, Scientific, Economic, and Divine. Each has a different way of determining the leader.

Military - Dueling and military power. It'll be a Klingon type power structure. Don't like the leadership? Stab it in the gut and take it's place.
Scientific - Being all enlightened n' shit means an actual democratic election. Win the hearts and minds of the citizens and guildies to ensure your place as "president" or whatever.
Economic - They have an oligarchy that needs coin to grease the wheels. If you have the cash; you can control the power. Just be prepared to outspend your opponents or your term in office will be short.
Divine - Because the gods determine the fate of the world, so to will they determine the fate of the node. Prove yourself to be the holiest and most pious believer by doing the most of a specific type of quest that shows your belief.

As for benefits, disadvantages, and risks; it's better to think of them as responsibilities. You are responsible for choosing which structures get built in the limited space of your city. You are also responsible for managing the taxes, caravans, and citizens in your zone of control. Just remember, "no king rules forever," and, "no king rules alone." You will have to answer to the citizens of your node. If they don't like you, or a rival gains too much power, you may loose all your power.

You'll also be the head of state when dealing with other nodes. It's a heavy responsibility. If they don't like you, your node may be sieged and you'll lose everything.

    This exactly. Great post!

There will be a mechanic of taking leadership away from a current leader for yourself of course, but also a democracy for some node types. But like Ashergi said, being a leader won't be easy, and you don't just get to sit to do nothing. You have a job, and must do it or you will be thrown out for a new leader. There will be many people who want to be "King" just for the reputation of being that Metropolis' leader. But if they are a bad one, they won't be one at all soon enough.

I would just like to add to this that elections for the nodes will likely happen once a month (1 year in game time).
