When can we expect to make Guild name/character name reservations?

Comments

  • I seem to remember seeing something about it happening after the kickstarter.

The tier rewards don't activate until after the kickstarter anyway (notice how no one has flair, even though it's likely that almost everyone here is a backer.)
  • I doubt names can be reserved until there is at least a server database. Though I am just speculating here.
  • Im hoping that Intrepid will do what Bioware did and allow the guilds to go ahead and form before game release. That way when the game is launched, most of the guild work is already out of the way. As far as character names go, i suppose they could implement a similar system......heres wishing on that one.
  • I am assuming June 2nd will be when we can reserve names but it hasn't been released yet. I am very excited for this game though so I can't wait to access the beta.

I agree, as it's highly unlikely names will be unique across the entire game, so to be server unique, they'd need to know, (a) What servers are on offer and, (b) Have people commit to those servers 1.5 years in advance, to have a unique name on one.
  • I would also assume no name reservations until servers and stuff are actually functional. For example, by Q4 2017 Closed Alpha or Q1 2018 Alpha.

All I wish is that they make it fair for everyone, and give a time for us to know when we can do it.
  • When we reserve a name, does it have to be one word (in my case, Maora) or can it be two words (say, Silver Knight)?

It would be great if we could have surnames (First and Last) so everyone got the name they wanted.

That kind of ruins the fun of going out and recruiting guild members during the alpha/beta/live game.

Guilds will have to be leveled up first before the max amount of slots will be available. So at best I would expect guild name reservation before launch.

True, but it's been by far the most common way of doing it for almost a couple of decades now. It would be weirder, honestly, to not be building guilds pre-game.
  • I don't want it after kickstarter. I want it to be after they revealed what names are acceptable to certain races.
  • Reason I ask is I use a forum name here(not one I usually game with unless its an alt) and people who are linking their guilds already will be pretty gutted if someone takes their character/guildname. (I'm holding off on posting signatures with guild name for that reason.)But i just wanted to know how long I should hold off.
  • It would be nice if guilds could form and reserve names before at least beta if not alpha, I mean, guild functionality needs tested before the final product anyway right? Cant have the game launching and guild chat doesnt work not to mention guild pages/rankings/etc.....awkward. As for individual names, I really cant think of a reason why it would need to be any earlier than a couple days before launch. I would prefer it later honestly as I will probably play alpha/beta using different character names than the one I will play final with.

I wouldn't get too freaked out... there's only 6000 something backers so far... the chances of someone wanting a certain name, on a certain server, are actually pretty low, relatively speaking. Unless someone has a name that's incredibly, incredibly generic, there's a surprisingly low chance of NOT getting your name. But I recognise how FOMO plays into people's minds in this situation.

  • Good point, I guess that makes sense. Gonna rush for it soon as date arrives, so confirmation on that would still be nice.
  • I guess it would be nice (in my opinion) if:

    - name reservations start once kick starter ends (so everyone that joined the kick starter regardless of join up time, gets an equal chance to reserve his name)
    - before official game launch reservations are valid globally (across all servers) so people do not have to commit to specific server before an actual launch, and can easily arrange with friends where they will play
    - some time after the launch (lets say 1 month, but can be different time period) your name reservation remains only on one server that you have chosen, and gets released from all other servers so that name can get used there
  • It's almost going to be like a survival game at the beginning- everyone starts and it's a mad dash to resource locations (nodes) to start leveling it up.

    Kinda funny but extremely exciting.
