  • I'm praying for assasins creed black flag style with sea shanty's and upgradeable cannons etc....
  • every guild should have their own ship or ships..
depending on the guild level the bigger the guild level, the bigger the ship ;)
  • Ive always been fascinated with anything underwater in MMOs..I can stand for hours and watch the fish AI
  • I'd like the open water/seas to be (no pk penalty/no laws etc)
    Make Pirates great again
  • Argh! Show me where be the bootay!
  • would absolutely LOVE to find treasures and underwater entrances to dungeons.

This would be an excellent idea for exploring greater rewards with higher risk. However there should be areas of the open seas that have somewhat of a level of law. Think of it like EVE Online in a way. Some areas are a little safer than others. Other areas are just downright nasty.
  • I'm good with it. Maybe the closer inland you are the more restrictions/safe zones etc. I'd totally be a full-time pirate.
  • I'd imagine that lawful waters would be based on a node's area of influence, which would probably make island towns/cities especially important for naval transport and other activities.
  • The thing with this, as we see from AA, is that if people can find a safer alternative, they'll just avoid this kind of behavior totally.
  • When i say the naval combat bit in the strech goals it just final nail straw had to back, it has massive potential and there are many ways it could be done and all of which would be fun in there own right.

1st question i would have is has this universe invented black powder if so then naval combat is a matter of cannons, broadsides, ramming, boarding and the potential for large multi deck gallions and manowar, if not then naval combat is a matter of arrows particularity ones which are on fire, ramming, boarding of smaller vessels and thats not even taking into account what effect magic would have had on ships of the age of sail.

One massive potential i can see for naval combat is that it would be a excellent way for the various servers to intereact with one another be it fighting for separate lands or raiding the lands of the other servers show up with a fleet and lay seige to another servers coastal city or go raiding inland this could allow for a game that expands beyond the server you are in as you can travel to new lands thus making the game one big world instead of several smaller ones.
  • Freak this node non-sense! We be pirates pillaging the coastal cities and leaving on the sea!
  • While naval combat would be fun, lets just reign it in a bit, BDO still hasn't got real naval combat, and thats been going a lot longer.
  • I think it would be cool to see, if the black powder isn't in this world, some arpoons or nets to board the gallions and to concentrate the naval fight on the decks, creating the anticipation for the battle adding the "impactfulness" of the wind on the ships. You will be like "PIRATES!! RUN!!" and you will have to know how to maneuvre the ship, while the pirates might prepare the ambush with the wind on their favor.
  • I hope we get some sort of fantasy submarine sooner than later, those are always fun to have.
  • I really hope they can figure out a good way to do naval combat in an MMO. Black Desert Online is working on it now, it works alright, but because of all the different player pings things can become a bit weird. I hope this game can have both small boats for a few people and large ones for guilds! And manning the boat needs more then one man except the smallest ones!

I love ships too much :P
  • A metropolis node will gain access to create large ships with cannons that could reach other metropolis nodes that are deeper inland. The large ships will of course have to be in the opposing node zone of influence for it to launch an attack.
  • Personally not a fan of "zones" where PKing is allowed and not allowed.

For one it usually turns out that people will just avoid this area altogether and creates this weird "i'm in the safe zone, now i'm not" type of thing. Second, It just doesn't make sense to me why if you are over there in the murder zone, the fact you murder and steal has no bearing on your reputation. It is very "The Purge" esque.

I'm a big fan of the UO model, you could kill/steal from anyone at anytime , of course depending on where you did it had consequences. If you did it in town anywhere near a guard you would die. If you were not close to a guard you lost reputation. Of course you could do it away from town, but you would lose reputation as well.

Killing Random's not involved in an enemy guild or conflict should have some sort of penalty or ramification no matter where you are, but I don't think you should be restricted from doing it.
  • I would like to see epic storms take out ships and make them lootable if you find the wreckage. It could be at the bottom with some monsters guarding it or something. Maybe a reward from the owner for finding and returning the loot.

Big naval battle with a "commander" Element would be neat. The ability to surrender, board and fight or summon a Kracken from the deep to aid in your escape.

Floating cities owned by the best pirates in the game. Ability to have a pirate guild that owns this island and players can barter for stolen goods with the governor of the floating city.

The ability to contract with other guilds for an agreed upon sum and time to either protect or help plunder.

Real ship damage, holes that can be repaired, masts that can be chopped down, ships that can be rammed and split in half

    I could go on forever...????
  • Hope the sea are really big with hundreds of islands small and big, with a good trading system and plenty of exploration that are rewarding.

Its also not something the devs wanted to focus on or even really have in the game. Its simply a addon system that the players thought would be cool.
  • The sea is my node.

Not sure if that's an entirely accurate statement. As I understand it, the stretch goals are implementations born from the designs of the developers, not the player community, that would have been in-game, at some point. But, with player backing, it's just happening sooner, rather than later.

Putting something that doesn't fit, or you as a developer don't want in a game, just seems counter-productive, and wouldn't make much sense, imo.

Wow, BDO is struggling with that aspect? That's kind of sad, tbh. AA had the naval stuff down since day 1, never had to worry about the net code there (any more than anywhere else that is).

I know the lead devs played AA , the ocean navel gameplay from AA was the best part about that game. I think AOC devs have designed the world from the ground up with Navel content in mind. Let's hope they can get up to par with what AA has.
  • I'Il be disappointed if it's not like Archeage naval combat.

Just a side note: Whirlpools destroy your ship, not slow it briefly.
  • Looks like they'll need to use catapults or ballistas for naval weapons right?
  • I must have maritime activities! I feel the threat of piracy is mandatory, but needs to be controlled.

Instead of safe areas so far from the coast I think there should be a fleet of buffed NPC coastguard. Racing to the coast to avoid pirates would still occur, but you wouldn't be 100% safe just reaching territorial waters. Your safety would be dependent on the coastguard spotting your ship in distress and in need of assistance. Harbors could be fortified with cannons, militia and such, so as you pull into range the safety of your vessel increases.
