Wizard Towers

I plan on playing a Mage and as such a Freehold farm is just not going to do it for me.
Mages don't garden except maybe Necromancers who have been known to turn the soil over every now and then.
I would like to stick my very own Mages Tower on some nice remote hillside and tinker with my spells, expand my Library and stash my magical items gained from my adventures.

Has anything like this been mentioned and how many other spell-casters feel the same?

Yes please! This would be awesome.
  • This'd be pretty sick but I can't think of anyway that would fit with other classes. Mages can't be the only classes with special freeholds :(

Well maybe they can offer a small Shrine for a Cleric, a ampitheater for Bard and weapons hall for Fighters etc.
They would have to stay with-in the size limits planned for Freehold estates but maybe they can flavor them a bit to suit the different classes.
  • A Mage Tower huh?

    Just watch out for Templars.
  • Yea thats cool.
  • If they did implement something like this it would probably be put into the Castles rather than the freeholds.

It looks like with the freeholds they're created with crafting in mind mostly, although you can just take up the whole space with a house if you want. Having different house styles that could match the class type would be nice.

Thinking about this with crafting in mind, do we actually know what crafting professions are going to be available? We assume that there will be the usual types which allow for amour creation, food, weapon creation, probably some form of alchemy and enchanting.

So I don't think it would be that much of a leap to suggest there could be a mages tower for the mage that is into scroll creation, alchemy or enchanting of items. Perhaps there's some kind of Loremaster profession where the collection of sacred and ancient tomes could convey some kind of bonus to visiting travelers for their magical abilities? After all they have stated that if a tavern is built and players visit and eat your food they would receive a buff while in a certain proximity of the freehold area. :-)

So yes, +1 for this idea!
  • Mage Tower was the first thing I thought of.
  • YES! Mage towers would be awesome *o* If they were decently tall too they could also be useful to other people as a sentry tower :0
  • Tried posting the following yesterday but it didn't post, but advises that I have made post... strange.

  • I'm thinking that there maybe certain magical "hot spots" in the wilderness that a spellcaster / cleric might find in their travels and by building within those zones of influence they could harness bonuses.

Eg's: A Cleric stumbles on a healing spring and builds his Freehold near it that has a shrine, then he gains a boost to his powers of healing or healing potions created.
A Spellcaster finds a Magical energy hot spot and builds his mage tower near it allowing him to receive bonuses to enchantments or scrolls created there.

This could also promote trade as players might actively seek these people out to craft items for them.
  • Does the game world have ley lines mages and other magic users can tap into or build mage towers over?
  • I support this idea of Archetype specific buildings.

I don't know for sure. I haven't seen anything saying that would be the case but I'm just throwing out the idea of what I would like to see if possible.

Perhaps Archetype specific buildings as an option for Freeholds?
