Fishing or something like it?

I haven't looked too deeply into the little things involved with this game and I figured I'd try and get social on here and ask around :p

Will fishing or something like it be a part of this game? Most MMO games have fishing and tbh I find it to be one of the most calming activities to do.

What would you guys like to see in this area of the game? I was thinking about it earlier and if they were to include something like hunting that could be a really fun/different take on things.

  • They have mentioned that there will be fishing in the game.
  • started a thread in another section on what I hope to see for a fishing system. I'll go ahead and just copy and paste it here. I think it or something along the same lines would make for much more entertaining system then your average mmo

Fishing is a staple in almost every mmo out there but I’ve yet to play a mmo with a fun fishing system and I’m really hoping Ashes can change that. I want a fishing system that actually simulates fishing instead of just clicking a mouse button to catch a fish.

    K so here’s my idea

first thing a player would need to do is look for fish jumping in the water and identify what type of fish it is by its looks and location. Once you know what type of fish your going after pick your bait accordingly. Once your all ready a cast strength bar and direction bar come up, once you’ve clicked both bars your toon casts the bait (hopefully near the fish and away from snags) once the cast is off hold left mouse button to reel in your line and move the mouse to the left or right to try to pull your bait one way or the other in order to avoid snags and to try to cross the path of the fish your trying to catch. If the fish bites hit right mouse button to set the hook and continue to hold left mouse button to reel ( but be careful if you try to reel in to fast you might break your line or your fish might spit out the hook….if its getting close to getting away hit the right mouse button again to try to reset the hook) Once the fish gets close enough to you right mouse button will become the net button and you’ve got your fish

something along these lines would make fishing its own little mini game and way less tedious then it is in most mmos
  • It would be nice if professions such as fishing took more time than cast a line and wait ten seconds. I'd like to see benefits from becoming a truly good fisherman allow players to make great rewards from it.
  • Fishing will be a gathering skill that significantly impacts player economy.
Just like all the other Artisan skills.

This is almost exactly what fishing should be, but I don't agree with "knowing where the fish are"... Also, crafting lures and gathering bait should be part of the crafting /gathering tree. Knowing where the fish are is too ESO and games that have used this crap mechanic. Fishing should be fishing! An open body of water, cast and reel or if using bait, wait for the bobber to sink. Think more like bassmaster 2017.

I agree with most of this except the "knowing where the fish are" statement. Fishing should be fishing!! ESO and other games have this bs mechanic of running to a "fishing hole", cast and wait. It sucks... I would like to approach a body of water and either cast and reel with a lure (as explained above), cast and wait either with a bobber or a sink method (bottom fishing, like deep ocean or deep lake fishing). Lures and bait could be crafted and gathered in the artisan skill tree. All of this could make fishing far more immersive than what current mmo's offer. Think like Bass Master's 2017, without being able to see the lure/bait underwater.
