Character Creation + Kickstarter

Taking a look at the Kickstarter I noticed there are THREE tiers of normally locked "character creation customization options". Anyone has any clue on what is behind each Tier and what does one get with Tier 0? I'm huge on character customization, so this deeply worries me. I'm not really willing to pledge anything this early, but I don't want to be unable to make my character stand out from the crowd if I don't pay up.

• Well, in MMOs, what character really does stand out from the crowd? You're generally dealing with a certain set of things. What I would presume is going on is the first tier might have, say, 10 hairstyles and the next tier has 20 and the top tier ($85 earlybird I believe), has 30. They're just made up numbers, but I'd assume it's along those lines... certain hairstyles, maybe certain colours, who knows. It's probably not as big a deal as it sounds in all likelihood, especially given the way that, like I said earlier, people don't tend to stand out in MMOs anyway.

By standing out I rather meant "not be a part of clone wars" than like glowing and looking super duper unique. I'm just afraid of being limited, like unnatural hair colors only for T2+, heterochromia T1+, tattoos T3 etc.
• Vixrotre!

I imagine they'll have that stuff in the cash shop! I'm planning on saving for the things I want and then making my character with that specific stuff. Otherwise they're not going to make money off that stuff ever again which makes no sense.

I also am trying to refer a ton of ppl so I can get all of it one day ^^

What cash shop? With a monthly fee, I don't see them having two bites of the cherry and also selling stuff in a cash shop. That sort of thing funds games that DON'T have monthly fees. I am thinking new colours, hairstyles, etc, are possibly things people will be able to achieve in game if they didn't get them with their Kickstarter pledge. Not purchase.
• There will be a cash shop but it is ONLY cosmetic items. No buffs, mounts, weapons/armor, etc.

They've stated that they will have a cash shop, which will be aesthetic only. No P2W items.
Cosmetic Shop, not cash shop. If it sells only cosmetic items, like maybe mount skins, weapon skins, armor skins, hairstyles, makeup, tattoo's, etc. It is a Cosmetic Shop. Cash Shop's are usually a P2W grab by what I've experienced. I do hope though that the character creation isn't so limited and has ugly things, unless you pay for it. My opinion that's P2W, because some of us are CC fanatics and love when our characters look good. When my character looks good, it is a win. But P2W to most is "what gives me a huge buff, and can I pay for it?" I think P2W can be various things, but others may not share my opinions. If you don't you don't. It'd be nice for once if we get an in-depth character creation I can actually access frequently without the weight of "having to buy 30 days to edit character nonstop" or Character Creation coupons for one single time. Tired of it, want it to stop. I really want free character creation, but probably won't happen. Hope! ;-;

I think you're arguing semantics. I pay cash (irl cash) to purchase items; that is (imo) the definition of a cash shop. Regardless of whether the shop only offers cosmetic items or P2W items, I still have to use my hard-earned cashola in order to get stuff.

On another topic, as a long-standing "pretty character" developer, I'm ecstatic to see what kinda stuff they throw into the cas ... cosmetic shop. Hopefully dyes will be a part of the system at some point! Talk about enhancing individuality!
• Steven has already said there will be dyes, cosmetic goods, I also get the indication there will be lots to choose from, char creation as a base. There are many videos out now on AoC, and tons of information on AoC discord. Just no getting round it though an orc is an orc , no amount of hairstyles gonna make her pretty ..but maybe =)
• Buddy, this is a game where they let you choose between 4 generic fantasy races and that's it. Letting people create unique characters doesn't exactly seem like a priority for them unfortunately.
• Character creation will be extensive.

From the Discord Q&A:
1:08:00 Character customization, will people be able to make super ugly characters?

Steven:
There are going to be three primary builds that character customizations are going to fall into and those three primary builds, while differ from each other to a good degree, players won't be able to deviate too far from that portrayal of the race. There will be definitely fine tuning that will highly customizable, special in regards to the face, but from a body standpoint you are not going to see an 8 foot(2.4meters) tall halfling so to speak.
Each subrace is different. Plus, each race impacts your passives/stats and impacts your skills. Plus, all 8 races have unique architecture, so if one race is being more active in a zone, the architecture will reflect that. Race ALSO affects things like summons from the Summoner class, mounts, etc.
22:00 Will races have racial passives or abilities?

Steven:
The races will not have any effect on any artisan classes, no race will be better at artisan in my
opinion. However races will have racial passives and they will have racial augments. Those augments and passives can be applied to any class choice taken by the player.

What kind of creatures will summoners be able to summon?
Summons will reflect the summoner’s race. And summon skins will be available.

Does my race choice influence my class?
Yes. Races will provide augmentation for your skills. Races will affect your stats, and stats will affect your skills and abilities. In addition, races will give unique flavors to your class archetype skills. Classes will not be restricted to certain races. Races will allow you to apply augments to your primary archetype (class).

Will races have a unique mount?
Yes.

What will determine the architecture of a node?
Architecture in a node is determined by the primary contributors to its development. There are 8 different architectures, one representing each race. Each player has racial markers and the back end will track the amount of racial markers that are involved in developing the node, and the more markers there are of a particular race will influence the flavor of the architecture.
