Genders : gait and armour

First of all, sorry if my English is not quite correct (thanks to online translations for helping me). I hope at least to make myself understood.

I saw the first videos of the game and I was greatly disappointed by one thing: how to move and the outfit of the mage female character.

I would like that in the game, the customization of the female character is not just a character who wears high heels and whose gait resembles a top model in a fashion show.
I find it ridiculous.

For the magic classes, a light armour shocks me less but for a warrior I just hope that the armour will be as complete as those of the male characters.
I would like to have the possibility to create a female characters like Captain Phasma in Star Wars VII or Brian of Tarth in GoT (just for examples).
Even better, give the choice to the player if he wants his character to be rather bad ass or rather "sexy".

As for the character's gait, something more normal, more in accordance with fight, exploration, etc. would be much better, in my opinion.

And in the end, it could be valid for both genders.
Give choices to players is better even if I know that it's the easiest way for developing a game.

I can understand those concerns. It is kind of annoying when a game only lets you wear swimsuit-esque outfits as a lady and you can't obtain any cool looking armor. It especially feels immersion breaking when all the guys are wearing armor and outfits that all fit a specific time period or style but the girl armor looks like something from a fashion show or weird anime.

The particular outfit in the video didn't really bother me though. It is a little showy of skin, but not really that much especially compared to most games or enough for me to be concerned, and it actually looks like real clothes (i.e. doesn't look like its held on with glue or tape). I also thought it looked pretty nice overall (I really liked the flowyness of the outfit). For me, I would only be concerned about it if the male mage was not equally clothed, since it's a bit frustrating when you see someone else wearing the armor, or an icon of it but it's the male version and you think the armor looks one way but when you put it on you're wearing a bikini or no pants xD (actually had that happen in gw2 I believe where the icon looked like pants, but then it actually looked like underwear or short-shorts). If the game doesn't have equal armor though between genders I'll probably still play it, I'll just probably gripe about it and/ or make fun of it :p

As for the gait, it didn't seem weird to me. I think that's mainly because they're a mage though. If they were a fighter or tank I think the way they walked and moved would look out of place. Maybe different classes will move differently?

Overall though, I agree that there should be the option for players to wear more risque armor or clothing if they wish, as I know some people like those kind of clothes for their characters, though hopefully not something weird and immersion breaking like play bunny or school girl uniform >__< (also not immersion breaking gear for guys plz)

Yes I remember being gank while leveling by a max level girl toon in a sexy bunny costume in Archeage.

Oooh you should of heard Steven ear being chewed off over that mage outfit.
There is no worries about 'slutwear' in this game.
You will get full plate feminine armour.

What happens when you take it all off, is another matter.

The last mmo I tried was terra and like most Eastern MMO's that I've seen that is real sexualising of female characters

Overall I agree with Kaira's post except I like some occasional troll items like a carrot sword or something so that people can use them if they wish

I didn't read anything about it but I'm glad to read that.

    Yes, that's it.
I was just concerned about this because of the gait of the mage when she walks (I've seen worst in other games), the running seems ok for a mage as you said.

Also I couldn't find a male mage or a female warrior to compare.

Anyway, I will probably play this game :)

I bet what females will have to deal with is perpetually wearing high heels - especially humans and elves.

I actually would like real armour, and "sexi" armour to be options in the game for both genders. That way it's fair to everyone, and I know many people, men and women, who enjoy seeking out the more riske pieces.

Nothing worse than loving how a toon looks, only to find out they walk funny, sound like they've had major trauma to their voice box or will never have anything to wear.

Yes I'm a woman. Yes I want to look sexy.
No, there's nothing sexy about second degree burns because I couldn't be bothered finding armour that covered my (depressingly) flat belly, or gravity defying, back achingly massive implanted cleavage before I decided to clout a fire mage. If you're in any doubt, just ask google > Images >Second degree burns.

Both options of sexy or not sexy is a must. Pleeeeaaaase?

    Sexy male toons? Yes please!
Comfy tracky bottoms for everyday wear for female toons? Why not!

On the bandwagon with choices in armor. Most of all I want assurance that no classes are gender-locked. Everyone has different preferences, but character immersion is key. I want to be a female who wears armor to meet the requirements of battle, which means I want my armor to look like it will defend me. At the same time, if someone else wants to dress to entice, that's fine.

Classes won't be gender locked. I think it was in the podcast with Lazy Peon.

My only problem with the female mage was her legs (thighs in particular) looked too short for the rest of her body.

High heels - no, only if for casual wear or at a dance or formal function; when I'm out crafting/fighting I want practical foot wear.

I want like Evilynn said, armor that looks like it will protect and defend me. You can throw in some sexy pieces, but when I preview an outfit I want to be sure I know what it will look like on me. Which reminds me.... please have preview windows available.

I am pretty sure that if the specific female model is made to wear high heels all of the costumes for that model will have high heels.
Basically that model will be made to always be standing on her toes with heels off the ground.
The specific model will either always be flat-footed or always on toes to make room for the heels.
I'm pretty sure. We will see.

A preview window for armour would be amazing, i really hope they implement this. In GW2 you could even preview dungeon gear from the dungeon vendor.
I thought the female mage shown in the previews was just a placeholder? So, i would expect it to change.

I never really liked the term 'practical' when it comes to how women's armor and general appearance is designed - it doesn't really feel like it's reaching the root of the problem. Most fantasy videogame armor is impractical- it's just that it doesn't feel that way on male characters because male characters are designed to look "Cool" while female characters are designed to look "Sexy."

All I ask for is that the design philosophy for each armor set (and each character model) to be the same between male and female characters. And that this design philosophy is looking cool (and occasionally troll-y, but equally troll-y lol).

I honestly don't understand why everything ever has to have something to wank to. If you wanna wank then go watch porn and come back to the game when your done! ????

I think the main issue with most videogames in general is that the design philosophy game devs have between make and female characters is fundamentally different. When designing male characters they ask, "What would look cool/interesting/realistic?" and when designing female characters they ask, "What would look sexy?" This is where the problem is. They should not take gender into consideration when choosing which design philosophy they want to use.

Honestly though, I don't understand why everything needs to be sexually enticing all the time. If you wanna jerk off to something, go watch porn and come back when you're done! lol
If the game is designed to be as immersive as Ashes of Creation is, they should stick to the "What looks cool/interesting/realistic?" design philosophy for all their characters regardless of gender. (Of course the definition of cool/interesting/realistic would change depending on things like class or personality for npcs but I think you get the idea)
