Pledge rewards of game time vs lifetime sub option?

So I notice that there is a "lifetime" subscription that comes with the ' braver of worlds' pledge amount. Luckily someone else on the forums discussed that reward because otherwise I wouldn't know about it.

For lower level pledges, there are "game time" rewards. (i.e., Settler gets one extra month of game time - 2 total).

Having said that, since a lifetime sub comes with that 470-500 dollar pledge price tag, what happens to those extra 6 months of additional game time? (Warrior of Old has 6 months total for that pledge) Is it just a lost thing?

My request for that would be, if we do decide to pledge for braver of worlds, or higher, and get the lifetime sub, can we get "credit" for that 6 months as 'sharable' to others for their account? Example, I want to invite a friend of mine to play and I give him 1 month of that time so he can play and if he likes it, he'll sub. Or, a friend of mine wants to play but can't afford the sub, so I give him 3 months or 6 months of that game time of mine so he can play. If that makes sense?

I don't know if it was mentioned before, brought up before, etc., but I'm fairly new to this and wanted to ask since I didn't see the question anywhere. Thanks,

  • It's a Kick Starter incentive, for a game in pre alpha. The game won't be out for a number of years...you are making a contribution in good faith.

I get the premise, and that a life time sub nullifies the 'all previous rewards' monthly allocations...but i don't think Kick Starter rewards could ever be exchanged or traded.

If you want to encourage friends to get involved without funds then the 'Referral system' (which is not a pyramid scheme) can be a way to support the game while potentially earning enough credit to cover monthly subscription fees.
  • The 'lifetime' benefit should really be seen as an extra bonus far far beyond a linear progression of subscription time provided lower pledges.

At the $25 pledge level the 1 month of subscription time is a tangible $15 value. More than half of the pledge cost.

At the $250 pledge level the 4 months of subscription time is a tangible $60 value. A bit less than one third of the pledge cost.

At the $400+ level the 'lifetime' subscription is worth $540 if you only play 3 years - it's still over $395 if a $10.99 a month for a full year subscription rate is used to calculate the value. Few companies ever go that low even for a full year at once.

There's absolutely nothing being lost - it's a complete gain.
  • Those additional months would just be absorbed into the lifetime sub. I think it's that simple.

Well if I ever figure out how to live for a lifetime plus 6 months, I'll post about it here. ;-)

The six months cease to be, they no longer exist separately, they are absorbed.
  • The cost of the lifetime subscription is discounted from the foregone six months .

You can pledge another $80 above the $500 and they will give you six months to share with your friends. =P
  • Again, I hear what you are saying. I am just offering another option for that if someone wants to pledge for the braver of worlds level pledge. It might be a worthwhile thing to be able to provide a use for that 6 months of extra game time.

I read about the referral system, seems very good. I look forward to that being fleshed out further and getting into action.
  •
It might be a worthwhile thing to be able to provide a use for that 6 months of extra game time.
But it's not an "EXTRA" 6 months. It's like "this much" money will get you 2 months and "that much" money will give you 6 months and, boom, when you pay enough for a deal with, essentially, seven months, it unlocks an unlimited amount instead.

So the months don't sit outside of the unlimited months. They build up until you hit that seventh month and unlimited access ongoing. They're absorbed at that point.
  • OK, maybe this is simpler... when you buy a tier with 4 months, you don't also get lots of 1, 2 and 3 months from lower tiers as well. It's cumulative, hence when you pass 6 months you go unlimited... but you don't get the previous months that built up to that tier.
  • Yes, I gather and acknowledge your point Canterbury, which is to dissuade from other options for pledge rewards, thank you for your input.

I'm providing it as a thought in the discussion because the game doesn't come out for another 18 months-ish because we're here to share ideas and thoughts on the game as a whole. Which, I recall, the developers said they are eager to see.
  • It's a decent marketing scheme. Only one month though to be gifted.
  •
Yes, I gather and acknowledge your point Canterbury, which is to dissuade from other options for pledge rewards, thank you for your input.
I'm not trying to dissuade anyone of anything; I'm interpreting what the devs mean via their wording on Kickstarter. I would fall off my chair if the Kickstarter actually meant anyone with unlimited access could gift 6 months access to someone else. So I guess it can be a point of discussion, but as it seems a largely open and shut case, I'm not sure what the value of that discussion would be versus, I dunno, something like, "What will all the classes be called?" ie: something that's still up for grabs. I just don't think this topic is too open to interpretation.
  • One of the things I keep hearing after watching live feeds, video interviews, Q&As, read here on the forums is fairly simple. "That is still in discussion since we're in the 'pre-alpha' stage now."

Until the game releases, I'd say many things are "in discussion" and not finalized.
