"Mounts can be killed"

So...does that mean they are permadead, or not? How is that going to work?
I hope they aren't perma because I don't want to lose a mount I love just because some pvp ganker wants to grief me.

Since Steven played Archeage , it might work like that game did in that you can revive your mounts and pets and heal them.
  • Just like when Silica revived pina in sao....I'm sorry my inner weeb is leaking.

    Pina... ;A;
  • Mounts can be bought from the store and Kickstarter, so I don't believe that they will have permadeath. It will probably just become wounded until fully healed. Some mounts can fully die though. Dragons, which are the only currently known flying mount, are planned to age and expire.
  • Makes sense to me. Super rare/powerful mounts would be transitory so that the game never fills up with them; the more common stuff (yes, even the special Kickstarter ones), will probably be capable of being revived. Seems a good compromise to me.

Probably put it at a moderate level of difficulty to acquire. So it will not be much of a pain to acquire but yet need constant effort to maintain. If they are tradeable, it also ensures a constant stream of business for tamers. That would feed to the social aspect of the game.

Well, it plays into the idea that nothing is forever. The same as cities... metropolis' even... aren't forever in the game. A large group of people can spend time building one, but if an equally determined group puts in as much effort, it can be destroyed. But getting back to the dragon example, I would suggest it's a two-pronged way to keep them rare, ie: (1) Some people won't even bother making the effort if they can be lost and, (2) Even if people make the effort... they can be lost. I actually like it, as it means seeing one would actually be a really rare and cool thing in the game, not a case of, "Everyone's got one..." Kinda like how Jedi were in the early days of SWG before Sony changed it to, "Press a button, be a Jedi..." Ugh.
  • I can understand how it could have be misinterpreted as permadeath, but mounts will be resurrectable and not permanently killed ❤️

Does that include super duper rare ones, like Dragons?
  • I would assume it'd be all inclusive, if you went through the trouble to get a dragon it'd be kind of messed up to have it die permanently.
  • I don't follow the videos almost at all. @Hartwell mentioned Dragons are planned to age and expire. That sounds very like something that should not be able to be revived.

I'm for the idea that mounts that die in combat should be able to be revived outside of combat, especially when there is a chance of being ganked. Quite neutral about the aging mount idea.
  • The thing about dragons though is that only the leaders of high level nodes may use them. They are meant to be a rare to see mount that not everybody has. Having the mount age and die would prevent an ex-leader from further using the dragon after they are no longer a leader.

Edit: Also, another feature that might be in the game is dragons that have colors that match their region of origin. If there is a sand dragon, you could look at it in a glance and say "That must be the leader of the metropolis in the sand region." If dragons didn't expire you probably wouldn't be able to tell something like that.
  • To answer the questions about Dragons/Flying Mounts - It sounds like there will be two kinds:
-Semi-permanent dragons that can be used by "royalty" (aka Guild Master of the guild owning a MAX LEVEL NODE, only 5 of those allowed on the entire server)
-They mentioned that in rare situations a player could acquire an egg from a dragon, raise it, eventually use it as a flying mount for a while and then it would die/leave.

Their design appears to be that 99% of players wont have access to flying mounts and I agree with that philosophy. Flying mounts allow you to skip disgusting amounts of content and is generally bad for the game.... but its still a super cool luxury item so they ARE going to be included in the game.

    Very relief to hear that.

But please tell me you'll not making AoC anywhere even near close to AA. That game is P2W! And to this day, I feel so proud whenever reflecting the time that I have canceled the grandmaster pack, just days before its release. I was thrilled at first, but after the closed beta, I realized it's P2W. It was my best decision ever to cancel that game, and never touch it again.
  • Is there an unlimited amount of times it can be revived? Or is this kinda like...only a few times and POOF? Cause Id be really sad if I logged on one and my Dawnbreaker is just dead....OMG my heart! </3
  • The dawnbreaker isn't a flying mount, it can only glide. Pretty sure that it won't die permanently, especially since it's a kickstarter exclusive that you paid a shit ton of money for.
