Weapons, we can dream goddamnit!

Originally wanted to do a rhyme as the title, but weapon is kinda hard to rhyme with :( So I hope no one takes offence to the title.

Anyway, in some thread someone mentioned we could need a thread about weapons, mostly about what weapons we would like to see. So here that thread is, this is basicly how I imagine it would be done: You list your top 5 (-10), just so its not a list of a 1000 sword names, aint nobody got time for that... Just remember I this is the discussion and not the design forum, so this is for dreams and hope, no matter how crazy (or how hard it is to implement) :)

So here my top 5:
- Halberd (basicly a axe made into a spear)
- Greatsword (the type with a grip above the first guard)
- The Orcrist (sword from the Hobbit)
- Scythe (cause who doesnt like scythes?)
- A sickle (useless against armor, but seems like a fun slasher weapon ;) )

• 1# Long Bow (the ones the height of the user)
2# Bo Staff
3# Katana (proper Japanese ones not the shitty looking ones some mmos have)
4# Crossbows
5# Rapier (the sword musketeer's used)

thats my list
• Butterfly swords for dual wield slashing.
Sai for dual wielding stabbing.
...and dual wield magic :D to mix elements..if there is elements.
•
Sai
ooooo Sai's i forgot about thoose
• Hmmm.. off the top of my head I would say..

kukri
scimitar
flail
trident
bolo
darts
sling
lance
net
lasso
whip

Those are just a few standard weapons i would appreciate seeing in game , unless we meant stuff like EXCALIBUR !?! :D
• As a tank NEET I would love to see some shields and cool looking maces.
• daggers and shortbows ftw
•
– Scythe (cause who doesnt like scythes?)
This is everything I need! I want this dervish feeling from GW1 back. Scythes are awesome and way too rare in mmos.
• I would like to see:

Tongfa
Fist weapons

GUNS!

I know some people dislike guns in high fantasy games, however I think if there is alchemy and magic it would be possible to make some sort of projectile weapon. I remember watching the trailer for WoW back in the day and saw a dwarf hunter shooting a gun and that sold me the game :D

Maybe the devs could make the gun different from other ranged weapons like giving it an ammo system that you have to reload every five rounds or something. Also I just wanted to make it clear that when I say guns, I don't want some modern machine gun. If I could pick a type, I would like revolver rifles so it limits how many rounds it can shoot before it needs to be reloaded.

These weapons would be really cool! Maybe we could add throwing knives too.

Kris sword/dagger, a Philippine weapon that looks awesome as fuck in my opinion.
Lances to be used on the backs of your mount might be fun, and would let people be the traditional knight in shinning armor on an arcane runed horse.
• Zweihander!

I actually can see a place for explosive arrows and such.
Some physical damage AoE is cringe worthy and jarring compared to magic.
So giving a parallel to magical explosions with physical explosions enables a nice class parity in game, regardless of if you are physically or magically oriented.
• -whip ... or better "chain" weapon and kusarigama
- Dnd exotic weapon: two-bladed staff/axe, bastard sword, kukri etc.
-gloves types (also Dnd monk equp.) + Katar
-Dif. pole-arms - Bec De Corbin, Lucerne hammer, Fauchard, Naginata etc.
-Dif. staffs-cane, baton, quarterstaff, bo, mage staffs or hibryd type
-Flamberge /Zweihander
-Sai
-War scythe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_scythe
NO weapon with HUGE size http://cgwall.cn/upload/2014/04/04056vWS154VkmjQrhe-4.jpg (prefers "authentic"design)
Not fan of dif. automatic guns(if only they are pretty slow weapon . Prefer Arquebus<also they was in Pillars of Eternity> or musket, or some guns from "Arcanum").
• -Flails
-Crossbows
-Tower Shields
-Stabby-pokey-sticks: http://tinyurl.com/gtt9s8w
-Spellbooks or Tomes for spellcasters or magic-melee hybrid classes such as the Warrior Priest from WAR: http://tinyurl.com/hzdvqrj
• Lightsaber!
oh wait...wrong forum
• Oh I wanted to add sword breaker / parrying daggers. It could be used as an off hand weapon for dual wield tanks that focuses more on evasion and parry.

I Like it!, maybe just the 2 blade version's though dont wanna go over the top
• For those who like fancy weapons, I'd like to see a bladed war fan like in mortal combat. Dual wield bladed war fans for the rogues.

• I hope Dual-wielding is a thing in general that is well fleshed out. I'd also like to see more thought put into non-standard shield tank classes. Example: I'd love to see heavy armor 2h / dual wield melee tank classes. Instead of using shield based skills they could instead gain damage mitigation depending on how much damage they are doing (e.g. entering a rage), or in general have an interesting mechanic in which the more damage you've dealt the higher your resistances. To keep them high you have to keep doing damage, and your class is given a large amount of AoE specific tanking skills. So sword/board could have it easier tanking boss like characters while 2h/dual wield would be better for pulling larger groups to keep AoE aggro. Both sets could do tank either, one would just be better than the other.

Back on topic and off side thought: Spears, Halberds, Polearms in general, Whips (maybe even offhand viable that allows you to basically "silence" all weapon based skills for a duration), Claws/Fist like weapons (see blade and soul or Albion Online), Double bladed staff, crossbows (maybe even repeating like ones?), offhand artifacts for magic (spellbooks, skulls, ETC). The offhand artifacts would be really cool because legendary like items would have very specific looks that you could identify.

Sooo spears? :) Although I like that name better "Julemanden uncovered the ancient 'Stabby-pokey-stick of Justice' " ;)

Its really nice to see people have that many dreams about weapons, at its kinda interesting to see how people prioritise different things :)

I'm not 100% against this idea, however giving a tank too much damage can always cause lots of issues on the PVP side. In WoW lots of people hate tanks being in PvP . Tanks shouldn't do insane damage and keep their defensive properties. If they are going to do lots of damage then they should take the same amount of damage as DPS classes. I think a tank should give up damage for survival and control and do less damage. There has to be some kind of balance so tanks can be viable in PvP.

Also I am think all classes/roles should be able to PvP.

I absolutely agree, they would need to be balanced differently than other tanks if they have DPS. All classes and roles should have a VIABLE impact on small skirmishes between parties and large raid v raid. Of course this is hard to balance, but here are some ways in which the different variables of tanking could be balanced. Require the AoE style tanks to be doing a set amount of damage, or instead have it based on the numbers of people hit that tanks gets resistances. Let's take some PvP examples of how it could be balanced in PvP.

Sword and Board tank in PvP: Due the stats of their shield and maybe some passives that tanks with a shield get they have innate resistances to damage or simply higher base values across the board for tanking. This means they consistently have a larger base value to pull from when fighting in small groups or even larger groups that gets even further improved for short durations with skills. Think Redoubt/Fort that gives a duration of which you can block 20% of attacks that come in.

2h/Dual-wield AoE tank in PvP: For large AoE DPS tanks to be successful in PvP they need to consistently sit in more dangerous areas of combat. They rush into larger groups for AoE disruption (slows/roots) and damage, but unlike the innately higher defensive bonuses of the sword/board they gain stacks of defensive bonuses based on either how much damage they have done or how many people they have hit. I think the best and easiest to balance of these would be based on how many people he's hit, and per person he hits he gets a stack. This means he could become exceptionally resistant to damage if he's hitting 10-30 people, but this means he will a major target for the 10-30 people in that group.

Not only does this solve the problem of him being too tanky (as he would only become truly tank-like when he is attacking large amounts of targets), but this also allows him to be a REASON to be focused by the group he is attacking. His AoE damage may not be as much as say a mage, but it's still a pain with most importantly some form of root or slow effect. He's crowd controlling and would become a high priority target. Thus the tank fills his role as damage mitigation, area affect tank, crowd control. Yet he has all of the downsides one would expect. Unable to withstand as much damage as a standard sword/board when he is not hitting things.

Now back to the Sword and Board style. In a PvP setting MMOs have normally had a problem making them useful. In PvE they put an AoE taunt and suddenly it works great, but humans are much harder to get the focus on an actual tank class when they realize his damage is minimal. To do this the Sword/Board tank would have similar AoE level disruption (Roots/Slows/Debuffs for damage or enemy defenses) while still being able to effectively take damage WITHOUT the need to hit large groups of people at once. Instead of stacks based on how many people he's hit (and the stacking have a decay timer per stack) the sword/board innately takes less damage due to higher defensive values overall. This makes him great for smaller group skirmishes, or when diving in the middle of a group he will be harder to take down than a normal AoE tank, but have less AoE options.
• This is my thing don't really take it to heart but I feel as if I have to say this. Okay if your going to suggest a weapon then make sure you know what your talking about like people saying great swords but referring the the Zweihänder that was the staple of the German Landsknechte. Flamberge is a the design of blade and not a weapon as it can refer to many weapons.
Sorry for the rant but this was also to the devs as it really annoys me when they classify swords so obviously wrong.

My list including high-fantasy and real weapons.
Zweihänder [Referring mainly to the flamberge versions cause Chivalry meta is always with me]
Maul [Who doesn't love bludgeoning their enemies with a chunk of steel on a stick? Oh and Chiv meta]
Chainswords [I mean the segmented swords with a chain run down the center to extend its length and used as a slashing type of whip]
Scythe [Because you cant ask for a weapon better then what the Grim Reaper himself uses]
Halberds [Best and most versatile weapon created and the ultimate hybrid of non-related but extremely useful weapons. The body and length of a spear with a elongated axe head and paired on the other side with a horseman'a pick blade]
• 1: Polearms. Running in heavy armor with a stick of "keep your f..... distance" is fun.
2: Fist weapons. Can look very cool. But some games likes to make them big and foolish.
3: Dual Axes. Just because, 2 axes is better than 1.
4: Wands! Alot of MMOs have staffs. Why not running around with a Wand and a book?
5: Runes! A Dwarven mage/priest shouldn't rely upon wands/staffs, but rune stones, which he/she can activate in his hands. Make some glowy effects, and it might look kinda cool. Don't think I've ever seen it before in any MMOs. Make it happen!
• - a cosmic staff with small planet like jewels orbiting would be awesome for my mage summoner.
- rapier swords for my fighter mage.

these are my dream weapons to own in a mmorpg
• My number one will always be an Artillery bow, a bow that you have to use your whole body with to draw. More of a special few shot opening weapon/special situations bow so to speak.

Number 2 are fistweapons, just underutilized in all the daggerdominant worlds.

Number 3 are asymetrical weapons. Be it onesided swords, a spear with an axe on the other end, shields that are not round and so on.

Number 4 are ornated staffs with magical energy shaping the "blade/point" whatever you use to attack.

Other than fancy stuff, I like the more simplistic style with some adornment.
My go to example is saber's excalibur from fate/stay night.
http://img12.deviantart.net/afd2/i/2013/065/a/d/saber_s_excalibur_by_portiavakarian-d5x7v64.jpg
• If we are dreaming.... These might be fun.

Morning star -- Tanking with a giant morning star would be pretty menacing.

Nunchuks - Not really practical but would be fun to run around like Michelangelo. Might be good for a class that has a lot of stuns.

Whip/Chain whip - Castlevania style where you start out with the crappy ones and upgrade it until you start getting into the flame whips.
• I want spear.

Not ArcheAge kinda spear, but a real spear where its long-length is its main advantage.

If only..
• Bows all the way, i just love bows, expecially those who are as big as you :D
Long swords that you can dual wield is also something i love.
Dual dagger for fast attack?
Spears for maybe long range/AoE attacks?
and a good range of different shields that`s one of the things i would like the most.
