Housing and plot of land questions

What happens to housing/farm progress when a node is destroyed.

My main concern is how much money/time will it take to build up these building? And if it can be fully destroyed what incentives are there to even try?

It seems obvious that your building inside the Metropolis will be destroyed - Will the land plot blow up as well? :)

When you are logged off can someone come and take your plot of land?

  • Atticusfaith everything i have ever seen does not address this directly although i wonderd as well. All info i could find said you stuff would be returned to you . But i think that was more related to apartments.
  • Thanks for the reply! I been trying to watch all the videos. Hopefully we can get someone to ask this form of question during their Q/A's.
  • Yup, I want to ask question about the housing too.

    1. How do you get housing inside node area and farm in free land outside.
    - Do I just go to area around the node or free land outside and just erect my house? Or do I need to buy both places from the NPC around the Node area?

    - Can anyone just build in any node they want or they have to contribute some growth to the Node too? (Like I just walk into the Node that others have contribute to the growth till level 3 and I just get my house inside that node without any contribution at all. Or do I need to stay and contribute to it's growth for sometimes before I can get the right to build a house inside any node?)

-Also can I build both house inside node and farm area together or do I have to choose one of them?

    - Can I build either the house or farm area in more than one Node?

    2. What about keeping stuff inside house and farm. Can someone just walk in and stole anything you keep in storage inside your house or farm?

    3. Attacking. If I remember correctly houses inside node area can only be destroy after the node have been destroy right? What about the farm house in free land outside, can they be attack and destroy at any time?

    4. From 3, after being destroy can items be stolen? Also will the house or farm still be there and I need just repair it, or do I have to rebuild everything for both cases?

    5. For housing and mapping, Does the map have a dotted line to show the area of each of the nodes so we can know that the area we are logging, mining or doing whatever things are contributing to the growth of which node? So that I can know where should I build my house at.
  • you have to pledge citizenship to a town in order to build a house . You have to be there first(or one of the first) to build near the towns center. Your house will tier up naturally as the town tiers up. I'm assuming you'll keep everything if its destroyed and simply have to start over. I believe this pertains to any thing laid down in a nodes zone of influence. Like with my Kickstarter I got tier two housing accoutrements so Ill have to pledge citizenship to a node first and then find an area to drop it in within the zone of influence. Whether that's near the town square or out in the middle of nowhere is up to me.This is my understanding so far.
  • You can own one of each type of housing: 1) Freehold 2) city house 3) apartment
These are all based on availability.
You can only have citizenship with one city, but your Freehold can be anywhere.
You will not lose the contents of you home by a siege.
  • As much as this sounds excellent, I can't see building inside the town. I'll be more than happy to buy a plot of land and make a freehold connected to a node that sits near a nice stream amongst the trees with some peace and quiet. If I want noise and activity, I'll head to town.

Good questions there, it seems like there is the possibility of loss of your house, but only in the sense of it getting 'downgraded'? Even if you "lose" your house, your items will be yours regardless and you'll get them back if that extreme happens. The more positive of this is that, they discuss at length how hefty the requirement is for doing a siege on a city and how many resources it will take to do that siege, along with the amount of time being enough for the city to prepare and build up defenses.

I look forward to having that quaint little apartment as needed.

At this point, all of your questions' answers are still tentative because everything is in discussion. Definitely good questions, though the fact that we can't 'lose' our household items is a definite positive. (We all know damn well griefers and gankers would become an out of control force and destroy and pillage everything, even what's nailed down, and take it home with them if they could.)

I'm an altoholic. We are many. We are I.
  • Personally I kind of hope you do lose SOMETHING if you're house is raised to the ground along with the rest of the city. Not saying you should lose everything but the potential loss should be enough to motivate you to actually take part in the defense of the city rather than saying screw it and just trying to move elsewhere. Personally I plan on having a freehold if I even do housing at all (kind of want to be a wanderer, see the sights and all that), so I don't know if having citizenship is even really an issue for me.

My understanding is that you need to have the resourses to build your house (prob not the instanced housing) and the resourses required are significant. So the sence of loss will be more to do with that than losing your unique whatever you store there. Not to mention no longer having your node. plot, home etc. And the need to relocate. That to me seems significant enough punishment for not trying or being able to defend your node.
  • Ahhh!!!! Ok. Thank you very much everyone :D

Thought that I can have as many houses as I want, then I can build freehold house in every node hahaha.
  • I have a question about the availability of plots to place freehold. This mechanic was an epic fail in Archage whereas if you were not in game during first year or whatever you could not claim a place for home depending on server. How is this mechanic going to work exactly in AoC?

This was covered i some detail i one of the streams.
But I cant remember which one.
    Sorry.

This is my concern as well.

They covered this in a stream recently.
From what I recall, once you've built a certain enhancement to your FH, if the FH gets destroyed (due to node de-level, etc), you don't have to fully re-invest/rebuild that enhancement. It sounded like the next time you started a FH, you'd be able to just slap that enhancement on and it would be complete.
  • Thank you, Rune. I think I watched the stream you are talking about. Just not clear how finite the open world home building is. I know the static homes are finite and it will be important to be on node early and be lucky to get a static home, a home that will grow with the node.
  • The stream I watched was the Dev's Q&A video posted on the Ashes official website.
