Glorious Alpha Two Testers!

Alpha Two Realms are now unlocked for Phase II testing!

For our initial launch, testing will begin on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 10 AM Pacific and continue uninterrupted until Monday, January 6, 2025, at 10 AM Pacific. After January 6th, we’ll transition to a schedule of five-day-per-week access for the remainder of Phase II.

Seasonal Gathering & Foraging

Knowing that there will be a seasonal system ingame.

I am hoping that it will make gathering(fishing) seasonally appropriate.

Flowers and herbs in Spring.
Fruits and berries in Summer.
Seeds, nuts and mushrooms in Autumn.
Winter..to cold.

One favorite RL pastimes and culturally significant in Central Europe is mushroom hunting in Autumn...I would love to have the same sort of experience in an MMO.

I am also dreaming of some procedural gatherable generation. opposed to the typical node/hotspots in other MMOs.

  • That would be pretty neat. I would still prefer a true seasonal (winter during winter) vs the week system, but at the same time the week system will be really cool.
  • It would create a very interesting dynamic to the economy. If things became seasonal, artisans could charge more for items in the seasons when it's not easy to attain them. Additionally it forces players to think more about when they do sieges and such because they need supplies that might not be in season. Remember not to invade during the winter!
  • I think the devs will do a great job. But we should give them ideas to inspire them.

    Steve said a lake will freeze during winter. He mention not being able to dive down so there is some physics or collision in play. He also mention crop rotations. If they do some research im sure they will have something similar to what you're suggesting.

    Something else i heard in the forum is temperature and clothing. U cant wear a skirt in winter or a jacket in summer unless u like debilitating yourself.

    What they didnt mention was if daylight will change accordingly to the seasons. It would be immersive if days were shorter in winter and we have to use our torch skill.

    That sort of thing is great IF you want to get fully immersed into your character and go full-RP all the time, but it shouldn't be something that is forced on everyone.

    With regards to seasonal gathering, etc it's a nice idea but I feel the season cycle will be too short for it to have any meaningful difference.
  • well it's sort of has to be implemented just by aesthetic principals. So I would have to disagree and say that it would have a meaningful difference.

    I can't imagine picking fruit in frozen Winter.

    Wasn't there developer mentioning farming and crop rotations??? seems logical then that foraging and gathering could also be seasonal.

    However it does make a point of is the 24hr* season cycle rotation to quick?

    would weekly perhaps be better....
  • Without a doubt! As a farmer, I want the variety and challenge of growing crops in all seasons! Knowing that in winter, summer crops might run low - could I do something about that in summer? Can I cultivate a "better" tomato where the perishability rate would be slower? (Will there BE perishability?? There HAS to be!)

    Anyway, very much into this idea...
  • That is a wonderful concept - hadn't really thought about harvesting! I had thought about mobs a bit.
    Seasons change each week?
    Helps us plan ahead a bit, once we can get an alamanac. :-p
