Toggleable RP Tag/Status!

We recently learned there won't be a designated RP server, which the RP community at large is entirely used to and fine with!
However, because we'll be lacking an RP server, things such as walk-up RP (roleplaying with strangers/friends without prompting/planning) are harder to come by. A major way to combat this would be to allow us to add an "RP" tag next to our name in-game.
For instance, if someone looks at my character they might see:
-Maevynn
If I were to somehow toggle an "RP" tag/status, then instead they would see
-Maevynn [RP]
-RP Maevynn
-Maevynn [RPer]
Or something of the sort!
This would allow RPers interested in RPing to immediately recognize eachother out in the world—even if they hadn't known about eachother before that chance meeting. I think this would allow an amazing opportunity for the RP scene, where people would be able to easily recognize those seeking RP in that moment. Perhaps crawling through the forests, or at a far-flung mountaintop in a mostly uninhabited part of the world, or even walking through city streets and taking in the sights. Being able to immediately identify another RPer helps us weave stories with those looking to take part in writing with one another—Which is crucial for a healthy RP community that doesn't feel isolated or fragmented.
RPers are, of course, usually not only focused on RP. Many of us enjoy elements of PvE/PvP as well, and because of that we won't want to be RPing all the time necessarily either. So I think this is also a great method for one to be able to say "Not looking to RP right now." even if they're well-known for RPing.
It's a simple but powerful tool that helps the Roleplay community thrive and connect with one another.

That's the hope! *fingers crossed*
[quote quote=20396]I like this idea. Seeing people to rp with would hopefully bring more people in and grow the rp community. I have a group of friends who play rp table top games but have never done it in game. I feel like this system would help us break into it by making it convenient to find people.

That's a pretty good point! I think that it would help people see that there are a bunch of other people looking for RP around and maybe they'll dip their toes in and try it out. It certainly isn't for everyone, but I think more people would like it if they just gave it a try.
[quote quote=20336] I have a feeling that a lot of the RP will be done in freehold taverns, etc which will be known to everyone on the server as the place to go for RP. I still like the idea of RP tags though.

Yeah, I can imagine that'll be the case. Or even within a metro's tavern (if there are such a thing). They're always the most popular, can't escape it!
I see an RP tag serving as something that someone can toggle on for a "Looking for RP" sort-of deal where they can be assumed to be In-Character by those around them. A lot (or even most) of the RP might be done in designated meeting spots, but with such a large and dynamic world with so many cities and opportunities—I imagine the in-between areas will also be places we spend a lot of time in and could make for good RP without being a pre-designated spot.

It's a good point you bring up. I'm not one of those people who wants to RP all the time, so being able to show people when I'm in character and not will help avoid the usual awkwardness of having 1 person being in character trying to talk to someone who is choosing to be out of character for that particular moment.
I would love to see some form of toggle but realistically don't expect us to get it.
As per usual I feel the RP community will have to forcibly carve it's own niche using guild tags and such. Hopefully Guilds have a GW2 style where you can choose a guild tag alongside a name so your name could be 'Knights of Valor' but the tag could be [KoVRP] to indicate being an RP guild.
