So Summoners...of what?

I have always loved pet classes, though they tend to not be very viable at the end game.

I was looking at the blurb for the Summoner. It mentions that four hands are better than two. It could be fluff that means nothing or a hint as to what the base summon is. IE some sort of humanoid creature. I hope it isn't solely tied to the humanoid form so that your secondary class can change what you summon.

For example, a Summoner/Ranger could summon animals, a Summoner/Tank could summon floating swords or an animated suit of armor though one of those could be for the fighter secondary depending on if you think the tank would want more dps and the fighter needing a tank pet.

A Summoner/Cleric could summon something based on the character's deity with each deity getting something that is easily identified as being from that deity.

A summoner/Mage could get some sort of arcane construct like a golem.

A summoner/Rogue could get floating daggers for dps or something to get aggro to distract for a back stab setup.

Not sure what a Summoner/Bard could summon. Maybe a squad of fangirls to swarm your enemy and squeal it to death! :D

What are your ideas?

That's what I was figuring on as well. Your secondary determines what kind of minions you spawn. My favorite archetype in City of Heroes was MasterMind. I made dozens of them and not just because I'm an altoholic. This was talked about in a previous discussion, but you have some good ideas. I'm hoping that's the way they go with it.

And, with that a summoner / summoner would spawn a variety of pets from the other secondary types, OR could choose which type of pets they summoned amongst the entire variety of pets available.

I'd be happy to see more variety as we level in those options too, or even a choice between stronger fewer pets or weaker more pets. (I loved the power Gang War within the thug MM skill line.)

If this is the way the archetype plays, I'm really looking forward to a Summoner/Ranger because that would be spectacular.

As far as the summoner/bard, I'd prefer if those fangirls swarm all over me, but hey, up to you...

I'm an altoholic. We are many. We are I.

Summoner/Bard summons instruments that damage, defend or whatever based on the tune they play?

Was thinking of the same. Seems summoner is something of a hybrid filler kinda class as far as i can see?? Probably like a red mage or druid in that it can do multiple things, but not the best at any particular one???

I guess if you go summoner/summoner you'd just get alittle better at doing everything. I'm wondering if summoner/tank will be a thing that excited me a lot! Would be fun to control like golems or something to protect the party.

Oh! I think the initial impression I got from seeing the bard class was a crowd control type character with charms, mesmerizes or stuns. So a summoner/bard could summon pets that are useful for crowd control. Spiders that web, cobras that hypnotize, a bird that could blind...that sort of thing.

Well a summoner/bard could always just summon fairies/ musical notes. Would be amazing to see fairies giving off buffs and debuff while fighting.

I wish Intrepid Studios would release some more info about the classes faster, but slow and steady wins the race.

Also what kinda weapons would a summoner use a staff, a book, or a wand 0.o mhm?

I mean, I have nothing to add here, just loving this.

    Question about Summoner please.

Does this game allow players to raise stats as they want? If so how will summoner stats work. Since Archer will go for Dex, fighter Str or Con, Mage is Wis, Cleric is Int. Their stats will raise their magic healing, damage or physical damage and such. But Summoner is summoning monster to help. so is it Wis and will summon beats or whatever get stronger from this?

How about when we get to combine in secondary job. How will stats work again? Like Summoner or Mage combine with fighter or tank, will they need to raise Str and Con?

Lastly will Summoner be an easy target in PVP? Since their main damage should be in their summons not themselves. Fighting NPC shouldn't be a problem since the NPC will fight with the Summons first.
Since summoner don't have great damage skill like Mage, no healing or protective shield like Cleric, no high HP like fighters. Their skill will be mainly summoning and buffing their summons. As a player, why should I attack the summon beast instead of the Summoner himself?

Maybe the summoner will have an ability or passive that transfers damage to the beast if he takes damage and that damage gives the beast a damage and health buff. Would you want to just attack a summoner if his pet ferret will become a Dire Ferret chewing on your backside?
