Underrealm: I'm so excited!
Is anyone else really excited about the Underrealm? I think it adds a whole new dimension to the game. I can't wait to adventure underground.

"The Underrealm will be a rich environment where bioluminescence abounds in the fauna and flora that exist here. These deep caverns and underground valleys will provide new destinations for civilization to develop. Bringing the node system into the depths of the world, may awaken darker creatures then the surface. Be careful..."
So, there you have it, there will be nodes in the deep places.
j/k This is the email that Steven sent out to all the backers of the Kickstarter. He didn't email me personally.
Super cool then!! I am glad I am wrong in my assumptions.

yeah I too hope it has some sort of dark/evil/chaotic/punishing/hard/lawless/wild feel to it <----- (couldn't think of just one word that fit it).
Also caravans coming from underrealm could carrier valuabe goods 2 available towns and whichever towns get more of these siege materials would benefit that metropolis towards taking down a enemy castle or build a more fortified def.
For example players have put resources towards that citys Dark Alley merchants/ Under realm spys and these spys would help bring explosives for that siege advangtage.
Incroporating the underrealm to have an impact on the city nodes will help from 1 metropolis being unsiegeable and help create another place for players to buy items if they don't have citizenship or are enemies of that city node....
On the other hand you could have players able to try to stop underrealm actions by blocking portals or underground passages for a time.
Land, sea, underworld.
Its a good problem to have I suppose.
:D
The only potential problem I have is that the underworld becomes inconsequential to the overworld.
And the overworld activities are overly important to the community progress.
Meaning as much as you want to spend all your time down there....you simply cant.
"The Dwarves delved too greedily and too deep."
"You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dûm:"
"Shadow and Flame!"
Where there is great risk there is great reward;
"Here be Dwarves!"
Holding back the under-beasts and other sordid denizens of shadow. Exploring the caverns and crevices, seeking out the finest of ores, and liberating forgotten treasures from the vilest of creatures.
"And Here We Stay!"
Dwarven cities stretching deep throughout the cavern, climbing up the walls and turning raw stone into works of art and formidable dwellings.
Land, sea, underworld.
Its a good problem to have I suppose.

I would like to see the Surface and Underealm to be their own separate worlds in the sense that they have their own struggles of power and story events. Players will just have to chose which world they want to be living in and be a visitor to the other one. Trade between the Surface and Underrealm should be harder to achieve but a lot more profitable, but I would like goods and resources from the Underrealm to be rare on the Surface and vice versa.
In any case, I'm anxious to learn about the rate resources found exclusively there, and cornering the market on bringing them to the surface :)
This kind of ties in with my hopes for in-game resources having quality and properties of their own.
For example "Coal" might be used to burn for heat. But "Underrealm Igneous" might burn hotter, or last longer, thereby being an alternative to coal for special situations, etc.
I’m pretty excited! I wonder if it’s a “special” area, or basically the same as anywhere, but underground?

Wouldn't it be cool if the deeper you went to find resources, the more dangerous the monsters became? Don't dig too greedily or too deep :D
