MMORPG's place in Esports
I am very much into this Chinese anime, King's Avatar, for the past 1 and a half months which was first advertised that it will be the first ever esports anime. I expected that the game's genre in that anime to be MOBA but i was wrong. Instead of MOBA, what i got is a MMORPG. Basically, the game is not that unique for an MMO and there is this traditional arena which is where the competitive/esport aspect of the anime. This didn't disappointed me in anyway but instead, it made me more excited not only for the anime but also for the future of the MMORPG genre.
What made me excited for the future of the MMORPG genre is the idea that MMORPGs can also enter the esport industry. I think one of the main reasons for the decline of the MMORPG genre is that there is no MMO who was able to enter to esports yet. If you became a veteran in an MMO, you have no place to showcase and at the same time make profit with your abilities in the game. Only a handful of them will be able to. If ever Ashes of Creation will become successful, i hope that developers will organize events where people will be able to do so.
