Glorious Alpha Two Testers!

Alpha Two Realms are now unlocked for Phase II testing!

For our initial launch, testing will begin on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 10 AM Pacific and continue uninterrupted until Monday, January 6, 2025, at 10 AM Pacific. After January 6th, we’ll transition to a schedule of five-day-per-week access for the remainder of Phase II.

You can download the game launcher here and we encourage you to join us on our for the most up to date testing news.

Sitting in your node / freehold vs. exploring.

I like the idea of the nodes, but I can't help but think that sometimes the game sound too focused on it. With the nodes and their mansions and apartments along with the freeholds, I hope the game isn't just about sitting in your node or freehold the majority of your gameplay. The caravan system seems fun but you're really just moving from one node to the next.

I've seen a lot of videos on their emphasis to explore but they haven't really touched on what exactly we will be exploring.

  • I can't see it becoming like WoW garrisons for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Steven has said there will be no labour system where you can hire NPCs to go out and farm materials for you. If you want something you'll need to either get it yourself or buy it from someone. Second, they have said that resources will be limited in each area and will take a long time to respawn. On top of this the resources will spawn in random locations and could respawn anywhere. This will hopefully encourage people to go out and explore the areas more to find the resources they need to keep the economy going.

I can appreciate that but I'm also hoping there is more to it than to just gather resources; if the resources are depleted, having other reasons to be out exploring the territory. To avoid exactly what you brought up about the WoW garrisons and just running around the surrounding area to collect parts for your auction house for example.
  • Maybe the quests will ask the player to go out. I do think it's the economy that will be main driving force so you go out of your town, so resource gathering, which could include hunting, trading, etc. If you are a citizen of a node with a house/freehold, you pay taxes and you will need to have a source of income to pay them. If you aren't a citizen of a node, they've mentioned the higher the node level is and the more citizens there are, the more expensive it is to be able to get housing in it. You might find it's too expensive to bother so you'll go out and find another node.

I htink its much more than that.
You will need caravans to get your resource materials to the cities/towns.
You will need those caravans to town/town trade.

All Materials will not be available in one location and will run out.
So those caravans are the only things keeping everything afloat.

Its pretty much like military supply lines at the end of the day.
Cut the supply lines, you kill the offensive.
In this case you may well kill off the town too.
  • And, of course, let's not forget the dungeons and mobbing which is a part of any MMO.
  • I think not everyone will stay in their node. After the node develops, people buy a freehold then go off exploring for 2-3 days before coming home to sell their goods. No fast travel means once u commit to a node, you cant travel too far. Perhaps 2 weeks worth of travel at the most.

If this style is not for you, you can roam the lands and not care if your node gets attacked. Thus being a nomad.
  • If a room full of MMO veterans planned on making an MMO that was hardly more than gathering resources and questing I doubt they'd be going to all this effort since a game like that would be laughably terrible. Give them a little more credit than that...

My post is made based on the information that has been provided to us so far. If you can shine a light on it then I'd love to read about it. I don't assume anything because I don't have any idea what else there is in the world other than the node system and gathering materials.
  • Well, there is always a chance that a player with said monster tokens(like me) will zombie raid your freehold and town biting everyone and thus creating a zombie apocalypse.
