Visible disabilities in Character creation

I would love to think that you have already considered and are working on options for visible disabilities within character creation - If not, please give it some consideration.
Given that approximately 15% of the world population are considered disabled, disabled options are kind of under represented within mmo's.
The ability to give someone a prosthetic leg or arm, clouded sight or injured eye would be wonderful. If you're stuck on what is currently possible, just google 3d printed prosthetics.
To be honest, I'd actually also love to see a games designer that acknowledges the possibility of bigger disabilities such as a double amputee on some kind of floating platform/all-terrain-wheelchairs etc etc
Having said that, it'd also be interesting to see if people would be interested in going all out 'realism' and assigning a stats debuff along with the prosthetics during toon creation.
Meh, waffle, it's just a brainstorm idea.

Ok, so you wouldn't choose it, and I'm sure most would feel the same way, however I'm sure that a few would.
And at the very least you need to acknowledge that it has to be a preference for at least one person (myself) for it to have been suggested in the forum.

Idk man, they could have magical prosthetics, i.e. elves with wooden arms held together with aether and vines or somethin like that *shrug* I think it would look really cool! (Edit: maybe something like the limbs of spriggans from skyrim, for example). Ususally in fantasy, when trying to apply modern concepts, replacing electricity/wires with magic works quite well in my opinion! c;
Besides, a world with as much conflict as that of Ashes probably would have a higher percentage of disabled people than ours anyway :P

Because it’s fantasy, I’d probably rather not see prosthetics, but eye patches and scars, sure.

While magical prosthesis look cool, in a world like AoC which (presumably) has resurrection magics, why would getting an arm replaced be any more difficult than going to the local cleric with a sack of gold? I would expect meaningful magical prosthesis to be at least as expensive as that
Also a lot of games have magic carpet mounts, which could be a sort of substitute for a wheelchair (or any mount that doesn't involve the character standing really).

Idk man I think it would be awesome to have magical prosthetics, like wooden ones held together by vines and functional because of aether or somethin (i.e. limbs like the spriggans from Skyrim)
Also, they could have indoor mounts like magic carpets to account for wheelchairs maybe? :o
[quote quote=24767]Idk AoC has clerics, presumably with the ability to resurrect the dead, why would they be able to bring someone back from a fine meat paste, but not restore a limb or two?

Because aesthetic :P
Shame though as there are a lot of great characters with prosthetics/disabilities and all throughout the history of fantasies and storytelling.
Ignoring long john silver (as he didn't actually have a wooden leg in the original novels, he was just a 'cripple' )
and Treasure island still leaves you with blind Pugh or similarly Geordi from Star trek
Barbara in Batman or Xavier in Xmen rock the chairs, though admittedly they are a little more 'future era'.
Furiosa in Mad max doodad, or the lass from Kingsman with knife legs, even Hiccup from how to train your dragon carry off the prosthetics with style
Anyway, it was just a thought, I really want to say thanks guys for being so open to the idea, or at the very least keeping it all polite I only realised after I posted this topic how inflammatory it might get / be.
With that in mind, I'll not be posting again here as I reckon it might be best to leave this thread to slowly die a death .
For example, there's a long discussion on what races should be added/included in the game. When the game launches 90%+ of the playerbase will choose a humanoid type race, yet if you listen the forums you'd think everyone plays "insert oddball race here".
This request is no different. Very few people would choose it, but just like weird race options it does add flavor to the game.
So while it has positives just like adding more races, it's just very very low in terms of the net gain it brings to the appeal of the game as a whole.
