Exploring

They said exploring is encouraged and will be rewarded.
What do y'all think this involves? Unique items? Amazing scenery? Unique freehold locations? Hidden puzzles? Maybe some type of exploring guild? Maybe just some cool POIs or vistas to explore everywhere.
I for one love exploring in games like ESO, GW2, and Destiny. If there are jumping puzzles hidden throughout the game I'd play just for those. A lot of potential with the special movement mechanics.
Thoughts?

Not sure what you're trying to say. I'm wondering how exploring will be encouraged and rewarded; what do you think?

  • I would really like to see hidden puzzles / puzzles of some sort.
GW2's jumping puzzles gave me vertigo but they were cool.
  • all the above except movement mechanic puzzles... they suck for people who have crap pings :)
i love exploring, i rarely use roads to get places and prefer to run across the wilds to find stuff when i am going to a to b
  • For exploring, I'd guess it'll be amazing scenery, treasure and hidden puzzles, for sure.
I'd say getting a unique and rare freehold would be amazing, but again, that'll run out, so they need a protective strategy against that.
Unique items.... errr no. crafters can study then replicate them, so it's unlikely, but certainly don't cross off unique items.
  • I liked the system they implemented in Warhammer Online, with lore books to be found etc, I also like the GW2 system of Vista's and Climbing challenges.
  • This is something that different players seem to interpret different ways, and all expect something different out of!

For example, the games you mention (ESO, GW2, and Destiny) I don't consider to even have exploration attributes. For me, walking around and collection of "hidden" things with sparkles on them, or jumping on a pre-canned puzzle to fill out a checkbox on a list isn't my personal idea of "exploring." In my opinion, this is one of the wrong roads the genre turned down... not necessarily "achievements" themselves, but providing them in a to-do list format.

For me, ideal exploration might include a touch of survival, where part of the challenge is "going where no man has gone before" (or if they had, they were prepared :) Aside from visuals, the reward for me would be a detailed map of the areas I explored, maybe even as info I could sell to other players. Rewards for me would be meeting characters or factions few would other encounter and through that build my knowledge of the world's lore.

    That kind of thing!
  • If I can get lost in the middle of no where, sit down and be content to do nothing except look and listen.
If I can be awestruck with the scenery around me.
If I can admire the beauty and detail of the wildlife skitting around doing their thing.
If that wildlife is there for a reason.....that makes you wander what they are up to.
If that wild life is attracted to things you may need or want.
Then I am finally part of a living virtual world I can call home.

The road i follow may be safe or dangerous.
To be honest I dont know.
And that is the spirit of exploration.
    Adventuring into the unknown.

Well I can't wait how the developers will Intrepid (please forgive me) exploration into their designs and gameplay. If they bring back other games views of exploration with a twist or completely reinvent how traditional MMO exploration is done I am SURE it will be amazing.

Thanks for all the replies everyone(:
