A question about nodes
Hi everyone,
I've recently started recruiting for my guild and the current member base was discussing nodes this afternoon. After planning our strategy regarding how we'll tackle the node system when the game is released, we realised something. So I thought I'd come here and ask you guys what you think.
Picture say, twenty players hardcore questing, battling etc. - gaining experience in a node's zone of influence. The node levels up, allowing property to be purchased. This property will be, as we've learnt, the property which becomes the node's most prestigious housing as the node continues to level.
Can random players come along and purchase this property without having contributed to this node's experience gain at all? This would be pretty devastating for a guild of players who have been working to build that node into their own over a series of hours, days even. Imagine some dude walking in, waiting for the node to upgrade and property to become available, and just buying the best spot in a village while the players who've been working hard haven't made it back to the node yet. It's a short window, but its something which could be easily manipulated.
Surely there would be a system in place which allows certain players (those who have contributed the most to a node's development) to purchase property within said node before others can.
If anyone has any other solutions, let me know! Keen to hear what you guys think about this issue.

I believe any player who has contributed to the node, could buy a spot there, and yes, even if a guild of 20 people did most of the job. the node won't be guild controlled as far as i know.
Yup correct. Even if a guild of 20 people did most of the job the node won’t be guild controlled. Because any guild or any one can rule the node according to the rule of that particular node.
Military node, is the strongest player in battle royale will be ruler
Economic node, the richest
Scientific node, I think by vote?
and another node I forget
So even if at the beginning the node is develop by 20 players of that guild only, but after it reach the stage to choose the leader, it will depend on the Node type and the winning party again. So even a one man guild can be the ruler of the Node if he is the strongest or richest in military/economic node.
Standalone housing within the same node.
These will be tier 1 housing at stage 3.
Tier 1 will upgrade to tier 2 at stage 4 and a new collection of tier 1 housing will become available within he larger stage.
This process repeats upto the metropolis stage.
These house can be bought and sold...(see node 2 blog/video) and be highly prestigious.
From stage 3 up....the nodes also have several build spaces that the mayor or such can place different modules.
These modules will benefit the node in different ways and space is limited...so its a tough choice.
One of these modules is apartments.
These apartments will be a collection of doors for instanced housing.
i believe these will be rentable.
Away from the stage 3+ node and concentric will be a ring of freehold spaces under the zone of influence.
Like the modules, they can be purely business or accommodation.
The greater the node progress, the larger I expect that ring of freeholds to expand to.
I dont know if these can be bought/sold or claimed in some way.
The freeholds have a minimum freehold to freehold distance limit.
Aside from this, freehold inns can also offer accommodation for rent.
What about those who cant devote 8 hours/day to the game.
Are you saying they arent entitled to housing ?
You are on dangerous ground of alienating people there.
I refuse to post here anymore
What good is a forum that eats your posts and craps them into oblivion ?
This will be a very interesting mechanic.
Just don't use quote. I've only had posts eaten using quote.
It does suck. I believe they're using wordpress, and I've been informed it's not the greatest. I have heard they're introducing a new forum, but I don't know when that'll be.
For one thing, we have to know how many houses will be available - enough for all twenty?
For another thing, I doubt there is any way for the guild to ensure or even determine whether they're the only ones actively progressing the node.
If someone is going to camp a node, they would have more fun contributing to the progression of the node.
Ashes isn't P2W, so they have to be progressing some node in order to earn the funds necessary to purchase a home.
Seems more likely people will want to purchase a home they are actively working to progress.
I think you real dilemma is figuring out how to prevent players from outside your guild contributing to the progress of your node.
<em>This is not the case.</em> In fact, <em>the exact opposite</em> is true.
Anyone can buy a freehold or house in a node, and doing so <em>is what gives them citezenship</em>. You could have worked in a node for a long time, and not have citezenship because other people snatched up houses first.
However, let's not underestimate the amount of houses in a node. As has been mentioned multiple times, the government will have the ability to set up instanced apartments in a more developed node, which should allow many more players to get citezenship.
Since nodes, create the story of the game the player experiences playing on the server, it'd be crazy for 1 guild having all of it members owning all property in the same node while the lone-wolf or someone from a smaller guild could only wish.
and it adds more to the problem, the fact that there's a set amount of nodes that can be upgraded till the end-stage (i believe 7?) at any given time and the only way to unlock another is by destroying one of the 7 active ones.
So yeah, first come, first serve for everyone that put work into the node sounds very reasonable to me.
Also what <strong>@Dygz</strong> said <em>"I think you real dilemma is figuring out how to prevent players from outside your guild contributing to the progress of your node."</em> Which i'm afraid isn't possible.
EDIT: @1pwny thanks for the clarification.
Castles will be run by guilds.
There is no hard answer for your question yet as far as the process to get an "inside the village" house plot yet. Good question for the Twitch Stream, but I'll bet they say "We'll have a blog on it in the near future"
and coming back to the question, I know, it would suck, but hey, that's how life works, is it not? again, considering the server capacity and expected map size, naval and underrealm, there is going to be enough perfect spots for pretty much everyone.
if you don't get your ideal spot, big deal! get another ideal spot.
I guess there's no real way of preventing others from picking up the houses that myself and my guild members are after, but that's the fun of a real competition I guess!
When you refer to castles, will these buildings include guild halls etc? And would you expect to see them inside the node or on freeholds?
