Will Ashes of Creation Alpha or beta have a region lock?

Greetings

I'm about 99% sure that region lock of games is a relic from a by gone era. That said it most definitely still happens during Alphas and betas. So I live in South Africa and have upped my kickstarter contribution to founder level to mostly gain access to phase two of the Alpha, but am worried the Alpha may not be open to me due to my region. Do I have anything to worry about?

    Yep, it's been said in at least one of the live streams that there won't be.

    Region blocks are a product of two things copyright and bad optic fiber links inducing lag. AoC should have no copyright problems. No one else has samoan dwarfs!
    The optic fiber problem is mainly a problem for Australia where I am because the one to America is the oldest link and the one to Europe runs through a war zone or three.
    South Africa has good optic fibers running up both the east and west coast of Africa and the facilities on land it runs though are relatively new. When the fiber comes up onto land that's where the lag comes from the building its plugged into matters. The one in Sydney, Hawaii and LA are old and the ones in Iraq and Syria are rubble.
    You should be OK As far as lag goes. So no regional lockout needed.

    Yes believe it was confirmed on the official discord that there will be no region locks. Which is always nice for us players that have friends located in different regions. :)

    Lol everyone is completely over hyped for this game, there are way to many helpful people commenting. A clear sign xD

    @Canterbury I do watch the Q & A s and remember that question but I believe that was more for the game itself than the alpha and beta, so was making sure.

    @Wesley Thanks! Makes sense, but this is Africa and anything is possible here. South Africa is slowly rolling out fiber but most people are still using DSL on 4mb lines which compared to EU an US is shameful. Ive heard of Australia's internet worries though, one would think they would have sorted that by now. I believe you made a deal with the devil some years back, Ricky Ponting instead of decent internet. Meh you came up on top :P

    I am not talking about the local systems but the trunk optic fiber links world wide. This: http://www.submarinecablemap.com/ There are two major choke points one in the red sea and one at Hawaii.

    Africa has the newest systems.
