Your origin MMO?

Hey guys!

My MMO experience pretty much revolves around years of playing, primarily these games + a few extras.

Everyone I've met in this community, so far, has been on the other side of the MMO spectrum - with experience in games like ESO & WoW. AoC seems like a beautiful mix of many MMO genres, but is there anyone around who has the same background as me? Really curious to find out.

• What kind of background do ya have?

I played WOW for 11 years it pretty much consumed my soul!! I tried other mmo's but they didn't interest me to long like WOW did

Info down below! ( Want to dive into the community join the Discord)
• UO, Star Wars Galaxies, D&D Online, SWTOR, ESO. other than that i play alot of console FPS
• Hi! It appears some of my post got removed... I spent the last ten years playing Fiesta, Aura Kingdom, and a bit of Blade n Soul. I dabbed in other areas but I couldn't really enjoy them as much.

You guys seem to have responded in the same way as most people I've spoken to have. I wonder why AoC hasn't attracted the attention of the players in games I've played as much as the more realistic-based MMOs. To me, it seems like a healthy mix between these two sub-genres.
• My first MMO was Guild wars 2 and I've been playing it since it first came out( I hope they announce an expac soon!). I've tried some other MMOs like FFXIV (I haven't gotten to max level yet, so far im a lvl 40 monk). oh and I played Black Desert for a bit but I don't think it's my kinda game cause it felt wayy to grindy for me honestly.
Currently I'm focusing on ESO, I think it's fun and I plan continuing it and doing the new expansion!
• My first MMO(RPG) was Everquest, and then vanilla WoW (before any expansions). After that, there was a long long period of non-MMO casual gaming until GW2, which I quit before Heart of Thorns.

I was a little kid when I played EQ, so my memories are all fuzzy. The graphics were so impressive at the time, but when I saw TheLazyPeon play it on his Throwback Thursday stream, it really hit home how much games have changed both visually and in terms of gameplay mechanics.
• I played a text based MUD in the 90s called Dragonrealms, moved one to Wow ,Anarchy Online, LoTRO, Secret World, SWTOR, GW2, ESO , Archeage, and finally BDO. I liked most of them for at least a little while. My favorites were LoTRO and Anarchy Online but none held my interest like that old text based MUD. would love to see a graphical version of that game.
• I first played WoW but I was like 11 and my mam didn't want to pay my sub anymore so I started GW and that was my mmo for years before I progressed onto crappy but memorable Korean games before coming back to WoW xD Now I await for AoC. Really glad to see a modern but old schooled western mmo ^^
• @CinemaSix I see you have come across the AoC post eater monster its very sneaky!! it hides in the network lines so it can pop up anytime! xD

Hmm I think mainly because AoC is not out yet or Because its still a Pre-alpha or it could even be because the player is fine where they are at not alot of people like change!!

I personally need a new game I've been on a dying streak lately no other game has got my attention like this in years!! And I"M 21 This is a Crime!!!
• I come from 2004 Runescape and from then I've tried almost every f2p MMO out there but nothing was enough to satisfy. Now after years of mostly FPS gaming Ashes is the first MMO to actually have convinced me in turning back to MMORPGing.
• My first MMO was Guild Wars1. But since then i dabbled in a lot
WoW,Rift, the other AoC, GW2, TSW, ESO, DCU, BDO,AA, Defiance, and some others for like 1 hour..because they were not good
• Seem to be getting the same response from everyone. GW2, ESO, SWTOR, WoW, etc.

Really would like to see some people from the same MMO background as me :((

If we can all agree on one thing though, its the AoC hype.
• Heya everyone!

My first MMORPG was Anarchy Online. I didn't played much and I was really a nub, but I got hooked by the exploration and the social aspect. I could speak with people from ALL OVER THE WORLD !

After that I played World of Warcraft and that's the game that made me a gamer. Played it exclusively for 7 years and did everything from hardcore roleplay to PVP and semi-hardcore raiding. Also started to lead my own guilds, communities and projects.

Then I tried other games. Some more than others. Aion, Rift, Tera, SWTOR, The Secret World, GW2, Wildstar, FFXIV, ArcheAge, Black Desert and of course, my main game, where I started as Youtuber and Streamer The Elder Scrolls Online.

TDLR: My main games were World Of Warcraft(7years and more), GW2(2years) and The Elder Scrolls Online(4years).

• RPG is more important than MMO. Ashes is a straight-up MMORPG... but able to focus more on bringing even more RPG elements to an MMO due to current tech.
My origin RPG is D&D.
My origin MMORPG is EQ.
• Everquest 1 for about 6-7 years to the level of a top euro raiding guild. Warhammer on line, WOW, ESO, Wildstar, BDO which I enjoyed but its very shallow, and currently back into LOTRO which I dabbled in when it first game out but decided to give it another go while waiting for AOC.

But like the above poster mentioned my first RPG was D&D, when it first came to the UK, cost a fortune as you could only get it on import.
• Ultima, Everquest 1 & Asherons Call, Everquest 2, Dark Age of Camelot were my first ones.
WoW & Rift were the last ones I did any real time in..
Since then pretty much every F2P, P2P and P2W out :)
• RuneScape was my first, then I moved on to vanilla WoW. Played that on and off until Cata (which was awful). Conquer, Swtor, Wildstar, Rift, Tera, and even tried ESO. My favorites were mostly Swtor and WoW. RuneScape was also pretty fun.
• My very first MMO was Darkage of Camelot, and since then I think I've tried every single new one that gets released lol. I mainly play more fantasy type MMOs moreso than "realistic-based" versions: Rift, Tera, GW2, WoW, Secret World. LOTRO , ESO, you get the idea.. But as to why you haven't heard more people with your background it's possible they just haven't heard of it yet, or are waiting longer to see if it suits their interests. I know based on past Kickstarter incidents many players I play with are holding off to see how the game actually pans out. I'm more of a hype train person myself, but that has bitten me a few times
• I was expecting WoW / GW2 comrades, but it's nice to see EQ 1 comrades on here as well!

@CinemaSix I'd consider MMORPG to already be a niche genre within the gaming world in the first place. Then, within that genre, I'd consider Anime MMORPGs as further niche, so you're less likely to encounter players from Aura Kingdom etc.

I'm sure lots of gamers have enjoyed the surge of Asian MMOs from Korea and China (and my country Japan to a lesser extent due to most of their MMOs being domestically locked), but part of the reason why I'm backing AoC is I dislike many of the practices that these non-Western MMOs implement.

It's been a while since we've had a dominant MMORPG come out of the west (though to be fair, I haven't tried ESO, but I doubt it's EQ / WoW level). My favorite MMO in recent years was GW2, so Korea still has the leg up in my view.
• Does Sacred's online mode counts? If not I guess WoW or Metin2, don't remember which first.
• EQ2, WoW =)
• Asheron's Call
WOW
DAOC
LOTRO
Rift
• Ultima Online, Ever Quest, Aion, WoW, ESO, FFXIV. Albion Online
• RuneScape. A friend showed it to me during a trip to our schools computer lab back in 5th grade.
• SWG was my 1st and still favourite MMO. I have played SWTOR, GW2, FFXIV and currently Archeage, amongst others. Nothing has manged to give me the same sence of achievment as SWG did. I'm hoping this game will fill that void.
• Ultima Online, Everquest 1, Everquest 2, Anarchy Online, WOW, SWTOR, FFXIV, and tried Blade and Soul. Most of the time spent on UO, Everquest and WOW. Oh and the time sucking online FPS games. All this list has done is make me agree with everything the devs say about the industry and im really hoping the game lives up to at least half what our expectations are.
• I have played all the big names but I started way back in the days of Everquest I also played beta for DAOC, WoW,LOTR etc etc.

I have tried to here recently not get to invested into games since my hopes of seeing WOD World of Darkness died. I really hope this game can take what made those games great and invest more into them.
• WoW has been my main one (played since Vanilla). Others I've frequently played are SWTOR and STO. Tried quite a few others, but not going to even attempt to list them all lol.
• My First "MMO" was actually an App called SevenSwords. It was hardly considered an MMO
(i.e. it was an App) It probably was a MOBA ... but didn't feel like one.

But it did contain a few interesting ideas i that sparked my interest in MMOs.
• I scroll through all the replies and don't see city of heroes mentioned not one time. Makes me sad that it's gone. I have traveled through too many MMOs to count, space, fantasy, horror, and some that defy category.

Haven't seen an AAA title that has the potential of AoC, so putting a lot of hope into it.
• Lineage 2 since chronicle 2, stopped before the kamael chronicle
