The title speaks for itself, and may I warn you again that this will be one wild and fun ride ahead of us hopefully!
To speak more about your future troubles and woes, there are some things I will tell you that I -LOVE- in an MMO...
The community playing against the environment... Learning, experimenting, communicating, collaborating, ... All of this just for a filthy dragon or random boss encounter and more, PvE; it is almost my favorite thing about an MMO.
Fighting breaking loose, over a node, a guild, an item, some feelings? YES, welcome to PvP where the Players have to fight against the Players over something of significance! Forcing people to do self research on their class, their arena, their opponents... And then going out of their way to partner with others just to ask for a little help in sparing in preparation for such events... You have to admit, everyone wants a lil' piece of victories pie against someone else in one situation or another.
Now, without further a due... The moment we have all been waiting for... The gaming experience that makes or breaks a game, enters the souls of the soulless men and women who play video games, and brings balance to all forces of good and evil!!!! Roleplaying! The best thing that happened to fantasy gaming since sliced bread... Or sliced fruit if you or your character is gluten intolerant. RP brings immersion and reasoning to a game whether one notices it or not... NO! I Am not talking about speaking in Ol' English with novella style purple prose post! (though that would be impressive...) I am talking about the Lore that makes the NPC's march around, the Lore that brings Races their class choices, The Lore that makes players make decisions in the long term to care about their character and their land.... Or leave it to the wayside. Everyone wants to do something; may it be pillaging caravans like a jackal in heat as a high stakes bandit! Buying out the trade of fish with ones currency and reselling it at double the price to run a market to the ground and sell fishing lures at half price as a Stocks Mogul!? Lead a group of adventurers out into the great beyond to search for hidden items or creatures to kill with an expedition guild! Deal with Guild Politics as Susie keeps flirting with the married Dar-mok even though she knows he is married, but he keeps on killing her enemies for her! This is Role that Players will Play and it must stay alive for any game to become great, as I hope Ashes of Creation becomes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a long time WoW Vet' that loves his raiding, loves his roleplaying, and use to love PvP... However the reality I am facing is that WoW is already losing my interest and the interest of its community, not in game play... No, purely in just being the same ol' universe at war as it has been. I want something new, still fantasy but a new bloomer... Something to ignite half of what I had in The Burning Crusade when I just started playing MMO's on my own in College... But if AoC can ignite the other half, the half that gave me wonder and amazement when I sat on my mothers lap as she played Ultima Online and I got to see the Mod' get destroyed and pillaged by the players (... I'm sure our community won't be that evil... >:D) ... I will know my Pledge for Ashes of Creation just paid for a rebirth of my childhood, GL TO THAT THOUGH!
I put down a good lump sum of my cash for this, and I hope for great things as this is High Risk, High Reward... You can't tell me it was a waste of time though, because I am enjoying the HypeTrain for the priceless it is worth.
