Node decay and de-leveling because of the world.
Recently Steven confirmed that nodes will not be de-leveled from the environment, that only player initiated sieges can reduce a nodes level.
They also have a tidbit of story today that it was strife among godlike bodies which caused the races to leave the planes.
Since corruption is a thing... Why can environment not de-level a node which players don't actively defend? Sure, it may reduce it's resources or features... But Why would a raging dragon seeking vengeance on a node not be able to fully destroy it of players don't band together in a timely manner to stop it?
Wouldn't this feature force dynamic change? It would give meaning and purpose to defending the node, risk and reward.
I could see a point that enemy nodes could abuse this and simply PK players defending the node.... But wouldn't that create even more meaningful conflict?
The same would go for de-leveling decay. If a city dies slowly why would it need to become a ghost town then sieged with nobody there to de-leveling? A new state of 'Ruins' would be a pretty interesting state in which you'd need to rebuild a decayed node.
What are your thoughts as to why this feature is not a thing?

I thought he was asked whether the "envrionment" (enemy monsters) could completely destroy a node. I thought he answered that while the envrionment, or player complacency, could de-level a node, it wouldn't be destroyed. Like you said earlier, it seems that only sieges can do that, at the moment.
I agree with you, LedgeTheOrc, that high level mobs, if not stopped, should potentially be able to not only de-level, but completely destroy a node. I actually thought that was the case. At least with triggered epic world bosses, like the dragon mentioned in one of the earlier concept videos. I thought it was mentioned in that video that the dragon could destroy a town, though, I could be wrong.
Well, it's pre-alpha, and lots of things are subject to change, I'm sure. I hope the devs revisit this issue, and opt for a more "dangerous" approach, to give the game some heightened tension.
what if someone Lures the World boss to your node!! just to troll etc... I would be pretty disappointed! Especially if we weren't strong enough to even kill it!!!!!
and lets say it destroyed your node you going to go kill the player you will more likely just become corrupt and you just feed the troll!!
and then you have bounty hunters after ya!

They can however delevel a node indirectly.
The boss can destroy building that offer services.
Those services may be crucial to node maintenance.
That's an acceptable thought. Maybe I'm a masochist, but I'd still love to see a city crumble around me if I couldn't do enough to rally the forces.
I would love to see a dragon level a whole node or a volcano cover it in lava.
Exactly as described in the node 2 video.
One of the things that turned me on.
Finally....work together as a community for all you have striven so hard for.... or perish. ...or run.
I wanted someone to put EPIC back into a game.
Some boss coming in and knocking down a couple of buildings and killing a couple of people before you kill it is hardly epic.
Kind of normal fayre IMHO.
What have you lost that gave the combat any real meaning other than smack a monster about a bit ?
Delusions of Grandeur I guess.
