Riddles and puzzles

Hi all :)
I just wanted to know -> did the team say anything about having puzzles and riddles in game?
I love all kind of puzzles, it makes the game and wandering around the world interesting and fun for me.
Mini games, sphinx-like riddles, puzzles, jumping puzzles etc. The easy ones and the hard ones.

I'd love to see lots of them in me and hope devs won't forget about implementing this important part of the game.
Anyone heard anything?
Do you want to see puzzles to? What types of puzzles are your favourite?

I personally love the jumping puzzles the most (like in GW2).
I also love riddles/puzzles that for example make you kill monsters/take paths in some order, and if you fail to guess it right everything respawns or you fall to the beggining of the dungeon.

Comments

  • Hmm I've actually not heard anything about riddles or puzzles.
Would actually be nice to have some that open secret dungeons etc but annoying things after someone solves it and shares it on wikis it's no longer a puzzling puzzle to solve xD
Some puzzle mini games would be nice in the tavern games from kickstarter rewards - they mentioned that in the stream last night but I can't remember what they involved xD
Or a gwent like game hehe
  • I've heard nothing, but seems like they might be obstacles for scholars, sure.
  • Same....heard nothing. Eerily quiet on that.
Its all rather puzzling in fact.
  • What a nice wording Rune_Relic :)
Well I hope we can get the answers from developers or at least show them people would like to see this :)
I posted the question for next Q&A but I doubt Ill get noticed knowing my luck :P

About puzzles being solved on wiki - I think it's your personal choice if you look it up or not. I prefer to be surprised so I dont check out wiki that much and for sure I avoid puzzles section to not have my fun spoiled.
In most of the games I played riddles/puzzles had a few versions of them available, randomly, so if you meet the same puzzles again the answer is not likely to be the same. There were even solvers for more difficult puzzles like these:
    http://perfectweb.org/ddo/solver/vale_puzzle.html
I think it was lots of fun to solve them on your own :)
  • I was also wondering if they would have something or maybe a maze.

To counter the wiki thing, if they were to make them a one time thing, but very hard and a team effort kind of event, I think that it would be really cool and memorable. They could even make the reward a world affect or something. lol
  • Can't really share on wiki because instances are rare, so we won't be repeating dungeons.
Randomize pattern solutions - but adventurer skills should also play a role in those solutions.
  • Also I think developers should be cautious when it comes to riddles. They shouldnt be "obligatory" to complete to be able to finish quests/dungeons etc. All other types of puzzles? Yes. But not riddles.
    Why?
Simply because some riddles may be too hard for these people who are not native English speakers. Mazes, jumping puzzles and regular puzzles are the same in difficulty no matter what language you speak. If you know English basics (and you should playing game in English) then ypu should be fine.

Maze would be a great idea!
I love mazes too, and I love when they force cooperation from players (maybe not A LOT of players, but like 3-4 would be great).
  • What if there were some dungeons in the world that only became avaliable to everyone on the server once a person on that server solved some form of puzzle to unlock the entrance, and the door opened up.

I think that would be cool, but imagine people crying if they thought intrepid were preventing them from some sort of endgame content because the puzzle was too "hard"
  • @Phyl Oh, I know right, it would be cool to solve a riddle that sets up a world event in the from of a maze with a few puzzles.

And yeah, I saw some guy who posted before and basicly said that he wanted to pay to win, but didn't want pvp cause he didnt want to go up against better/stronger people. (At least, that's how I understood it)
So I can easily imagine people crying about events that are too difficult or puzzles they can't solve. lol
  • Seriously, I've been contemplating what kind of event I would put forward to the devs for ks package, one idea that didn't make my short list was a jumping puzzle :
A tower rather like a jenga game, only no matter how high you get you can't reach the first goal at the top, until you work out that you have to take pieces out of the tower to build it up and reach higher.
The higher you go, the better the rewards you find.
Only like jenga, if you take the wrong bit out, then jump on a weak spotthe tower would collapse with you on it.
  • Should any riddles and puzzles be included in the game, I would like to see the answer intertwined into a nodes condition /status so it does not become a simple case of looking up the answer on wiki or youtube. (essentially intrinsic with the state of the game or region at that time or similar)
  • I don't think any content or events should be locked behind puzzles or riddles.
Some loot/achievements/titles sure, I'd love to see a lot of them!
Some dungeons could let you choose if you prefer to do puzzle's or go the "harder" way with monsters and for example traps.

I love puzzles but some people may not be good at them and would be very unhappy if they couldn't finish a dungeon/raid/event because they can't solve puzzles ;P

Also I'd like puzzles to be like "mines". If they are solved, they show up somewhere else in the world, and we should have at least 6-10 versions of them.

You know... if soemone WANTS to look puzzles up on Wiki, they'll do it anyways. Or they'll use a solver. There's no way to stop people from doing that.
