Where are your network engineers?
I still don't see anyone on the staff that deals with network design and programming, this kind of worries me being that the large list of ideas might be a pipe dream if there's no one that can make it happen in an MMO environment.

They recently hired two new programmers as well. Kevin McPherson has tons of experience, having worked on EQ.
It has also been mentioned that Intrepid are working with Google on server stuff.
The size of the team has concerned me, but it does seem to be growing. I was pleased with additions this last week. There's a great deal of experience added there.
For some time now I suspect the bulk of the work will be getting art assets and a base game together. Polish, including back end stuff, will be an alpha and beta thing. They have plenty of time to get things done.
It's called dedication mixed with lots of experience.
Right now they just don't need a lot of people to get it up and running.
They have a very well established roadplan for when and how many people they need with time passing.
They have at max 20 people playing the game right now, noone needs to bother with the networking part to enhance U4 to the need of a mmo.
They are not reinventing the wheel either, they just have to make a solid build of what already exists.
