Where are your network engineers?

I still don't see anyone on the staff that deals with network design and programming, this kind of worries me being that the large list of ideas might be a pipe dream if there's no one that can make it happen in an MMO environment.

Comments

  • The network engineers are in the sub-basement in a sealed vault next to the Gibson.
  • I believe they have people that cover a number of areas and are experienced specifically in making MMOs. I believe Jason Crawford is the main technical guy at Intrepid.

They recently hired two new programmers as well. Kevin McPherson has tons of experience, having worked on EQ.

It has also been mentioned that Intrepid are working with Google on server stuff.

The size of the team has concerned me, but it does seem to be growing. I was pleased with additions this last week. There's a great deal of experience added there.

For some time now I suspect the bulk of the work will be getting art assets and a base game together. Polish, including back end stuff, will be an alpha and beta thing. They have plenty of time to get things done.
  • well there's always outsourcing. many if not mostly all mainstream game companies do it. that's how you can get a lot of your models, animations and textures done. I don't expect them to list all of their temp staff but it would be nice to know they have a strong core engineering team working on the game

Size of team concerns me too but at the same time I can't believe what they've achieved already with such a small team o.O If they pull off what they aim to achieve then they deserve a hi5

It's called dedication mixed with lots of experience.
  • really the game not even in full production  , they will hire new people to join when it goes full production, this it just a idea and a basic game at the minute won't even be in alpha any time some, in not in full development yet as we can see from Q and A

Do not ever get concerned with the current size of the team, one of the earlier Kickstarter streams adressed it very directly.
Right now they just don't need a lot of people to get it up and running.
They have a very well established roadplan for when and how many people they need with time passing.
They have at max 20 people playing the game right now, noone needs to bother with the networking part to enhance U4 to the need of a mmo.
They are not reinventing the wheel either, they just have to make a solid build of what already exists.
