Should there be a rebirth system?

Many games have a system called "rebirth" where when you hit the level cap, you're able to start all over. when this happens you play your character over from level 1. what this rewards would be up to the developers, potential rewards could be a 1% overall stat increase over your former self, new skills, or a whole new class/title all together.

So is anyone in favor of this system? if so how do you think it should be implemented?

  • Being myself once is enough :)
  • lol good enough reason as any. I did have an idea though. And because there is a class/sub class feature maybe when people rebirth they can pick 1 of 3 specials to choose from giving more diversity to the 64 total class combinations or maybe a permanent boost to a specific non base stat like run/walk speed, attack speed, ect
  • Personally for me when I reach max level I praise the sun because I don't want to level ever again. For me that's when the game starts and I can focus on gathering and pvp and my guild :3

Players will expect their comrades to play alongside them at the height of their power; a rebirth system is usually just a way to lengthen the grind without really providing much more content. I'd rather new classes be added, and existing ones be further developed.
  • I was almost 50/50 on this, but decided with No. I understand that time investment = more power in MMOs, but that kind of thing will greatly imbalance things as the years progress.

    This
  • Rebirth is where my alts come in. lol
  • Although I really like this idea, given enough time this could be exploited. Many people like to rush to end game. although replaying the grind can be fun, if you don't want to do it and then need to or you are at a disadvantage I can see this being a hinderence to the community.

Using this logic, it would be like saying lvl 50 is end game... or you can carry on to lvl 100 for the same situation but you get a minor perk/buff/stat increase.

  • I'm a no here. The game play and world building is heavy on characters actually physically creating things. A system like this ultimately renders the decision for rebirth a requirement for PvE adventuring progression. I do not want to lose my crafting/gathering/processing abilities because adventuring progression requires me to keep resetting my character.

I am much happier with just making another character if I want to experience the game from the beginning again.
  • I have to say no this will result in third party power leveling services and upset the ballance of power in the server.
  • I already died once and that's one to many times already thank you very much
  • My first impulse was a straight no. It's just a prolonged grind, but with a moments thought it has some interesting applications to it.It hasn't fully formed in my head yet, but think about it like that.
You will need several weeks to reach max level. How much did the world change in this time? How many cities have come to life, how much did the surroundings change? Monsters took over others spot, dungeons opened, new threats appeared.

It would be an interesting concept to be able to choose your character to start over in this familiar, but yet different enviorement. It wouldn't be a pure grind in the same threaded path, but in a new, shifted perspective.

I lean to a No, but in Ashes, it could have an interesting application.
  • I also have to say No to this but because of my own reasons (the system itself could be interesting though).
Mainly because it will take you a huge amount of time to reach max level.
And from that on I plan on focusing on pvp and node wars in which my level will be essential.
Even if it gives me a small bonus on my stats I don't think I will go through that process of leveling again.
  • I say No aswell.
to me once I reach max level. I will feel like I accomplished something within the game if I want to level again I would create a new character ^^
  • No. I think only hard core levelers would enjoy this option, to do the same story over and over again. Or worse yet, only being able to do the quests once so your next play through is primarily PvP/Dungeons/Mob grinding.

A prestige option, similar to Diablo 3, would be a better deal. You hit max level and continue to get XP for titles, custom name plates, vanity items, and more.

rebirth would be the prestige route, I don't think an endless level cap would work in a pvp oriented mmo either. bot users would rule the game

I think many people would burn out grinding again, not to mention figuring out the logistics of gear (if it's level dependent, would they scale?). Versus a system that rewards people for hitting level cap and doing end game activities with others.

    second this.
  • It's an interesting idea, but I'm siding with No for the reiterated reasons of:
    1)  We can just make alts
    2)  I'd prefer a prestige system (D3, Wildstar, ESO, etc.)
    3)  Secondary classes can be changed and the devs are even toying with being able to change your primary class (whether or not one agrees is another issue)
  • Ugrh didnt mean to click yes :/

Well anyway if you want such a system why not just keep the cap unlocked? And just soft cap it with some really hard levels that give you little benefit (but works like a rebirth). First extra level could take the same amount as all the previous levels, the second the same as all the previous etc. More or less works the same, but you can stay competetive.

Well ffxiv does have a merit system, once you hit level 75 you grind like crazy to earn merit points, these cap after a certain point and are redistributable skill points to be used in things like enmity loss/gain or accuracy as well as base stats like strength and dexterity
  • In a more PvE focused game I could the value in that.  In PvP focused games that just becomes another layer of P2W - you're just paying with time rather than money.  Being able to spend more time already gives the advantage of knowing a classes skills better and being more practiced at combat - piling on arbitrary stat bonuses is - well, excessively piling on.  :p
  • Rebirth for stats... no. Rebirth for cosmetic effects, yes.

I actually voted yes but I didn't consider this angle. Any mechanic that creates an environment where new players can never catch up is a bad idea.

I would change my vote to no if I could.
  • Ragnarok has this. Not a bad system but a tad repetitive.
  • Yes because if you mess up your character you can restart, but no because Russian hackers can reset you and that would suck. Also, how will you reach the end? They're planning on quarterly updates forever. I have no answer.
  • I don't know if the server can handle a second me lvl'ing and stomping through the game a second time! j/k

I personally would not like this system as I like to Min/Max and if that is something that gave an advantage i would never stop resetting my Toon and would never get any where and if I didn't do it I would be mad that I am not getting the buff from it, so in the end I don't think I would ever be happy with my character.
