Questions about settlements and conflict

If I understand correctly, settlements can be attacked, is that correct? If not, then I suppose this post can just be deleted lol
 Otherwise:
- Does attacking a settlement cause damage and what sort of damage?
- Can a settlement be looted and how would that work?
- Can a settlement be owned/controlled by just one group/guild? Or would there be multiple guilds co-existing?
- Assuming there is ownership/control, could a guild/group attack and take over control/ownership?
- If control/ownership of a settlement can't change hands or can't be looted, what would be the purpose of attacking a settlement? Just for the fun of PvP?
- Can a settlement, regardless of size, be completely destroyed?
- If a settlement can be destroyed in part or in total, how do you think players will react after putting a lot of work into developing that settlement?

    1) Limited understanding is that it will be deleveled
    2) There is reward for taking it down, I believe ownership if successful
    3) TBC
    4) If true for 3, then probably
    5) If not ownership, then perhaps for trade, political status, population control
    6) I would imagine if a level one was destroyed, then yes
    7) Those that are invested with their time and companionship or guilds in the zones may rebuild or if it gets too hard, they move on and start one elsewhere or join another node. Adding a dynamic to the zones.

Others can probably inform with more detail/accuracy
  • From what I remember

    1. - Does attacking a settlement cause damage and what sort of damage?
    2. - Can a settlement be looted and how would that work?

1.) The damage is when the settlement loss in siege, the level of the settlement will go down by one level. So If you have the highest level metropolis, it will revert 1 level lower I can't remember is it a city or what.

2.) After the settlement is successfully sieged, you can attack houses to loot them.

    3.) Can eitherway

4.) The answer is no. It will depend on what type of the node you are in. If it is military node, the strongest citizen will be the king, if it is science node, you will have election, if it is economy, the richest citizen will be king. and another type of node I forget. As a result even if you are playing alone, you can still become the King of the node depending on type of node.

5.) Ownership of node can change hand as above. You attack the node for some reasons like making them agree to your demand in trade, diplomacy and such. Also there can be only 5 metropolis in this game, so by making the enemy's node loss a level, you can have a chance to increase your node to metropolis instead.

6.) From the node lowering in level, I would say yes. If you are at the lowest level node, if you loss the siege it will reduce to normal node without settlement again.

7.) That's why the citizen have to give their everything into defending their node. However if you loss, you can still go to other node and set up your freehold which even if destroy, did not disappear. (But I'm not sure about houses in the node)

  • Thanks for the answers! Lots of food for thought there. I suspect, though, that for those who have invested time and effort into a settlement that it won't be quite as simple as "moving on" if their settlement is destroyed/taken over. There will be hue and cry.

I predict that the guidelines for attacking/destroying a settlement will change once the reality of having a settlement destroyed sets in. I really doubt that it will be a common occurrence, but when it does happen, we'll see the forums light up.

  • From the Predator video, it looks like a city will have a "flag" that must me looted (in the form of a glowing crystal) and that initiates the siege. Really looking forward to getting to find out more about this.
  • I missed that Predator video. Interesting idea of having to loot a "flag". Really makes me curious now.

I could see how laying siege to a city could work if there were an agreement ahead of time by two groups to have a battle. Much less chance of having "hurt feelings" or players crying foul if a city were captured/destroyed. Could be fun.

I played Star War Galaxies (wow, was that a long time ago) and was involved in a couple of large scale battles that were a heck of a lot of fun. Very different kind of game, but the battles were fun because there was agreement by players ahead of time as to when, where, etc. (But then Jedi were introduced... a lesson to be learned about introducing over powered characters)
