Systems to avoid streamsniping.

I wasnt sure where to put it so i put it here. It is a bit of a niché request so i dont assume it was asked before but one of the problems of most open world pvp games are stream sniping, for those who dont know what it is its when people join a stream of a game to find them and gank them rather than use ingame methods, i wanted to ask if it was possible to include specific UI elements that you can hide or change where they are. Forexample something as simple as showing the name of the area are often popped up on middle of screen where you cant hide it, hiding minimap (if there are any), area names etc. I ofc know that some people will come in and be like "dont stream then" and quite frankly im so small it most likely wouldnt matter for me, but i assumed it was something that wasnt commonly thought about so i wanted to ask.

Have a lovely evening

  • just put a 3 minute delay on stream

would at large ruin the point of streaming and interacting with your community, might as well be a youtuber at that point, + it would still allow people to see where you are close to in case of forexample a caravan run, which is what i am most worried about.
  • I don't think there could ever be a total solution to stopping stream sniping, even if AoC had an alliance with every streaming company (Twitch, YouTube, Mixer, etc..) the snipers could just anonymise their IP address with a proxy or Tor browser so that the in-game IP and the IP connected to the streams are different. I guess the best way to avoid stream sniping as @OneWingedAngel pointed out is to delay the stream, or just not stream at all when you are in rated/ranked matches.

I dont mean qued up pvp, mainly a way to hide your current position in the world, ofc people would realize where you play if you play it alot but its to avoid an easy pinpoint "oh here is a caravan run lets do it" which wouldnt surprise me if some people do. I have seen people abuse streams several times for ingame advantage. They mentioned a hud that can be changed and customized quite drastically so it was mainly an extension to that

  • Well if they stream snipe you just let them kill you and they'll get corruption. They will mess up their character so bad so fast. Then bounty hunters will track them down, kill them and loot their gear.
  • Also there is no fast travel, so people would have to work real hard to get to you. And if you do caravans you'll probably have a team with you, so then it's all fair game.
  • the only thing you can do is get more people to help you on your caravans and so on  which will bring more people to your steam also it will be a better watch then someone walking with a caravan. win win

That is true, I also know that certain things would be a terrible to stream (like planning a huge raid on a city), however again in this case its simply asking for an option to turn off area names around you and potentially a minimap, there are certain things you can cover up with webcam and stuff however some games also have things which you quite simply cannot cover up, i remember it specifically being a problem in albion online since its a hardcore full drop pvp and people just used twitch to find targets to kill. Which is a scum move. I would hardly call it fair game since you use OUT of game systems to find targets rather than ingame, though it can also be argued that its simply "dont stream x things"
  • a short delay doesnt ruin streaming. gheres already a delay anyway adding a 60second delay wont cause viewers to leave. or dont use a delay and realize part of streaming is the potential to be sniped.

    aka get over it

Use your overlay to cover up mini-maps and other possible clues to your location. The rest of your game screen will be a giveaway of sorts though.

Yeah that is one thing that can be done, but it could also be an option to simply not have a minimap, My main problems are the things you CANNOT hide in most games, like such
where it smacks the name RIGHT in the middle of the stream, which is not particularly something you can hide with a simple box. So a way to hide minimap and to prevent the name from being displayed or allowing you to change position and name being displayed so you can have it be a more discreet place where you actually can have a box.

Because of the way corruption works in Ashes, I would say the ideal way to avoid stream sniping would be to have a couple bounty hunter friends hanging out nearby (without announcing that they are nearby).  If it becomes an issue, anyway.

Someone jumps you?  Let em kill you without fighting back.  Summon bounty hunter friends with a quick "HAAALP!" in chat.  They charge in and smash that person into the dirt.  Let that happen once or thrice while on stream, shame them on the stream, and they will probably stop attacking you just to avoid being called out.

Or...maybe start bringing the whole guild.  One or the other.   ^.^

EDIT:  But yeah, I see what you're talking about.  I just don't know of any games that let you do stuff like you are asking, without using third party mods.
