So many questions on my mind

I've been watching videos on youtube about this game and its progress and it looks good so far and was wondering about some things and i haven't put in on the kickstarter.

(sorry in advance in my typing is a mess lol)

how will primary/secondary classes work
will you get locked out of certain skills for say your secondary class since its not the primary or
will you be able to use all skills of both classes ?

could you say combined Ranger & Mage skills into attacks like imbue arrows with fire, ice, lighting or melee weapons ?
(who doesn't love a flaming sword)

will mages have more elements to use then the usual fire, ice, lighting, or will we have fire, ice, lighting, water, earth, or some form of nature magic that would be a combination of elements ?
will mages have large scale AOE spells like more natural disasters at higher levels like earthquakes, lighting storms, hailstorms, rain of fire, tornados ?
(Dragons Dogma,Guild Wars 2 magic)

will we have choices on animations for classes like mages spell casting or which hand we hold a sword and shield with ?

will there be city/town pillaging where we can destroy it and loot the area for resources and money ?

will we have any crowd control abilities for any classes like mages in WoW would turn enemies into animals or root, stun, freeze or movement slowing enemies for X amount of seconds ?

(i've played mages in different MMO games each one is a little different with spells one of the best to me was Guild Wars 2 mage class each element had some damage, buffing and debuffing effects)

will we have a hearthstone like other MMO games where you can travel to a town or city ?

will this game have more fantasy creatures like dragons, chimera's,hydras like say Dragons Dogma had and if so would these fall under dungeon bosses, world boss or raid bosses assuming this game has big dungeons or raids ?

I've played an ungodly amount of MMO's over the years and i've spent the most time as a Mage and Ranger player in most games and i wanna know will the ranger or mage have any sort of pet for their classes ?

will rangers have a weapon toggle or something to switch between Bow & Melee weapons skills ?

what will Mages have for weapons  two-hand staff, main and offhand weapons, penetrator from saints row and rubber chicken ?

will we be locked out of certain classes because we pick certain races or is it all open ?
so if i wanted to make a dwarf mage/ranger or mage/summoner thats all optional ?

will there be skill trees for classes and branching skills for them or some kind of advanced class skills ?

will there be visuals for kills like setting enemies or fire, freezing them or electrocution by lighting spell effects like ESO or Age of Conan or any more brutal fatalities in this game such as beheading, impaling ect... ?

will summoners be able to command their pets with an actionbar for things like aggressive where it automatically attacks nearby hostiles or passive where it won't attack at all or defensive only attack if you get attacked directly ?

will there be different animal mounts or will it just be horses for traveling ?

will there be open world PVP or an option to turn on/off pvp flags ?
(i'm not fond of open world pvp and really hate getting pk'd while doing other things like grinding mobs or gathering for crafting)

will there be capes and or hoods for any and all classes ?

will we be able to have guild tunics with designs and colors and would we be able to add this to say capes or shields to represent our guilds ?

could we dye our clothes/armor ?

how deep will character creation be at release ?

will this game have any guilds that involve themes and quests like ESO has or anything of that sort ?

will there be player owned homes and land ?

will there game have RNG in things like gear upgrades like Black Desert Online or any sort of long research timers to learn things like ESO has ?

I'm a little surprised and disappointed that there is no shapeshift druid class in this game, but i suppose that would be hard to make since i've only seen that in a few games Diablo 2,WoW,Neverwinter Nights

Wow - that is a lot of questions. I dare say some of those don't have answers but as I have to work tomorrow I need to get to bed in the next 60minutes and I won't have time to answer you :D. I sincerely suggest you visit Death's Proxy vids on youtube. Good luck! :)

  • Uff... Yes to everything xD Just Kidding.

    - Nope, each archetype would have a fixed number of skills which could be upgraded with additional effects with a secondary class, but you won't be able to use from other archetypes.

    - Probably, about the imbued arrows.

    - Not many information for now I think.

    - If by hearthstone to travel you mean fasttravel/teleport, then probably not. Only some special metropolis would be able to use fast travel, and it is not yet said how.

    - There will be dragons and such, and they will probably be world bosses, although there might be on dungeons too I assume.

    - Not sure if only horses and skins to them or different mounts.

    - I seem to remember there's an option to turn off combatant mode.

    - Yes to dyes.

    - No RNG.

sorry if there are so many questions but i was on a roll lol
i was hoping for some form of fast travel even something going from town to town would be good or maybe a carriage you could pay some coin to ride on automatically to get around.
  • Hey mate, i will answer the ones i know the answer to but i agree with checking out death proxy.

"how will primary/secondary classes work "
-You will have the primary skills of your main class and then you can augment your skills with your secondary class, the example they have given is a warrior with a charge having a mage augment that makes it into a charging teleport instead.

    so akin to "
could you say combined Ranger & Mage skills into attacks like imbue arrows with fire, ice, lighting ? " as you asked

    "
will this game have more fantasy creatures like dragons, *snip*"
-They have mentioned a dragon as an event boss, they have also shown a big tree as a world boss to fight, it seems to be a fantasy setting so i believe that you will see things such as those, however they will probably be bosses.

    "
will rangers have a weapon toggle or something to switch between Bow & Melee weapons skills ?"

-I can only half answer this one, but as far as i understand you have a single weapon equipped, though every class can equip every weapon, however certain skills are locked behind certain weapons (you cant shieldbash without a shield)

    "
what will Mages have for weapons"

-In the gameplay they have showed so far the mage uses a magic spellbook, it is also the icon of the mage
Billedresultat for ashes of creation mage

"will we be locked out of certain classes because we pick certain races or is it all open ?
so if i wanted to make a dwarf mage/ranger or mage/summoner thats all optional?"

-All races can play all classes however races have different starting stats and stats goes in different direction, forexample an elf might have more intellect and will get intellect as it levels, while an orc might have more str and gains str when levelling. They also said that there will be race augments on skills much like subclasses can augment.

    "
will summoners be able to command their pets with an actionbar for things like aggressive where it automatically attacks nearby hostiles or passive where it won't attack at all or defensive only attack if you get attacked directly ?"

-this is a half answer, but they mentioned that the summoner basically attacks through their pet, so it might be more akin to a mage throwing a fireball than a hunter putting summon on agressive mode, more specific info might come later though.

    "
will there be different animal mounts or will it just be horses for traveling ?"

    - they said we can tame animals and breed within their respective race, we have also seen one of the multi man mounts being an elephant/mammoth, so its likely there will be other things than horses.

    "
will there be open world PVP or an option to turn on/off pvp flags ? "

    - people are unflagged for pvp, however certain events will flag you and you can be attacked, forexample being near a caravan with materials being moved, if you get killed while unflagged by another player they will get corruption which will give them heavy penalties, so they want to have open world pvp but in a meaningful way, you shouldnt just get ganked for minding your own business, however if you do an event that is pvp specific or is in a pvp zone you are fair game.

    "
will there be capes and or hoods for any and all classes ?"

-One of the kickstarter rewards are a cloak, i cant remember specifically what you can equip however they showed it on the pre alpha mage gameplay on their youtube that you might want to check out.

"could we dye our clothes/armor ?"

-Yeah the game has limited use dyes, so you can dye your gear but its not just an unlock once and dye forever, except for specific ones such as the Kickstarter

    "
will this game have any guilds that involve themes and quests like ESO has or anything of that sort ?"

-They mentioned they will have organizations, kinda what ESO guilds was, like thieves, traders, mages etc. you arent locked into it and i dont believe we have too much info on them, but they are there.

    "
will there be player owned homes and land ?"

    - Once a node reaches level 3 you can make a freehold, which is basically a house, you can also buy a house within the city that grows as the city does, at a certain size the city "leaders" can decide to make an apartment complex which is instanced housing.

"will there game have RNG in things like gear upgrades like Black Desert Online or any sort of long research timers to learn things like ESO has ?"

-They said for "Overenchanting" your gear there will be an RNG chance of failing, we dont know how recipe research is done atm other than you can destroy items to learn them and you can "experiment" to find new stuff.

These are the things i can remember, i would recommend watching the previous livestreams and checking out deathproxy's videos. Cheers

There is no fast travel per say (not like wayshrines in ESO) however they said that you could make travel stations between cities (akin to wow gryphons) though I am not entirely sure under which circumstance that is.
  • *cracks knuckles*

    Here we go!

    how will primary/secondary classes work
will you get locked out of certain skills for say your secondary class since its not the primary or
will you be able to use all skills of both classes ?
You will have your main class which gives you all your different attacks and skills (For example a Fighter) and your secondary subclass enhances the first one rather than actually giving you new attacks.

For example, say you play a Fighter and decide to pick up the Mage subclass.

By default you have a charge attack called Rush that basically charges you across the battlefield to your enemy before stunning them.

By choosing the mage subclass you have the opportunity to augment the attack in different ways, there is maybe an option to add a freezing/slow effect once you reach your enemy or even augment it by crossing it with a Mages teleport ability which would mean you teleport across to your enemy instantly instead of charging across to them.

The effects from the Mage subclass enhances and changes your existing abilities rather than giving you new ones.

Now imagine that a Ranger chooses a Mage subclass, his standard long-range arrow shots might be able to slow enemies down, burn them over time or even freeze them in place, instead of a standard AoE volley attack he might be able to slow any enemies down within that area too.

The subclasses allow for a lot of customisation and very different feeling classes all whilst retaining the familiar main class.

will mages have more elements to use then the usual fire, ice, lighting, or will we have fire, ice, lighting, water, earth, or some form of nature magic that would be a combination of elements ?

They haven't confirmed exactly what we'll be getting but Steven is a massive fan of Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder where the spellcasters get a lot of options with which sort of magic that they get to use so we'll no doubt see something similar to that.

will we have any crowd control abilities for any classes like mages in WoW would turn enemies into animals or root, stun, freeze or movement slowing enemies for X amount of seconds ?

Crowd Control abilities are something that are a big part of both PvE and PvP games so we'll most definitely be getting ways to control the fight, some classes will have a lot in the way of CC

will this game have more fantasy creatures like dragons, chimera's,hydras like say Dragons Dogma had and if so would these fall under dungeon bosses, world boss or raid bosses assuming this game has big dungeons or raids ?

There will be a lot of fantasy creatures from angry little rabbits to full blown dragons tearing towns and cities to pieces.

We'll find boss units like that in dungeons, raids and even out in the world when they decide to awaken and wreak havoc on the world.

I've played an ungodly amount of MMO's over the years and i've spent the most time as a Mage and Ranger player in most games and i wanna know will the ranger or mage have any sort of pet for their classes ?

We've not heard anything about this but it is a possibility.

We only know for certain that the Summoner class (similar to a Warlock in WoW) will make extensive use of summoned pets.

what will Mages have for weapons  two-hand staff, main and offhand weapons, penetrator from saints row and rubber chicken ?

Pretty much any class can use any weapon, the main thing is going to be down to finding a weapon that compliments your class and finding equipment that let you use your skills to the best of your abilities, some certain spells may require a staff or a wand, some Tank attacks may require use of a shield or one-handed weapon, etc.

All in all the weapons are all usable but depending on how you customise your class you will naturally be drawn to using certain weapons to make best use of your skills (like rogues using daggers/swords because you can't put poison on a rubber chicken!).

will we be locked out of certain classes because we pick certain races or is it all open ?
so if i wanted to make a dwarf mage/ranger or mage/summoner thats all optional ?

All races can go all classes.

The developers have mentioned though that the different races will feel very different from one another so playing a Dwarf Fighter may feel very different from an Elf Fighter.

Your race will also play a big part of augmenting your skills and making them act differently, being a dwarf might give you better strength based augmentation for swinging around giant hammers and axes whereas elves might have augmentations based around making quick attacks with more nimble daggers/swords.

will there be visuals for kills like setting enemies or fire, freezing them or electrocution by lighting spell effects like ESO or Age of Conan or any more brutal fatalities in this game such as beheading, impaling ect... ?

Different killing blows can come with different types of effects.

For example you might crush a mutant rabbit attacking you or if you kill it with a fireball it could explode into a ball of fire and guts!

    Tasty!

will summoners be able to command their pets with an actionbar for things like aggressive where it automatically attacks nearby hostiles or passive where it won't attack at all or defensive only attack if you get attacked directly ?

They've talked before about giving summoners a lot of control over their pets compared to some other games but haven't outlines exactly what sort of toolset they'll have.

will there be different animal mounts or will it just be horses for traveling ?

There will be a whole bunch of different mounts, some of the rarer ones might even be able to fly or walk across water!

There will also be a whole bunch of skins for players to work towards to enhance and change the look of their existing mounts if they find them a bit boring.

will there be open world PVP or an option to turn on/off pvp flags ?
(i'm not fond of open world pvp and really hate getting pk'd while doing other things like grinding mobs or gathering for crafting)

World PvP is a big part of the game so it can't be turned off but the flagging system means that random gankers gain corruption from killing non-combatants which means other bounty hunter players will be able to track them down and murder them, when they die they can even drop some of their equipment.

The penalties for attacking random people are quite heavy so it will definitely discourage players from doing so outside of proper PvP scenarios like sieges and caravan raids.

will there be capes and or hoods for any and all classes ?

    Yuuuuuuup

will we be able to have guild tunics with designs and colors and would we be able to add this to say capes or shields to represent our guilds ?

They've spoken before about letting players paint and modify their cloaks and shields, etc. with things like guild designs and stuff to match with their guildmates.

could we dye our clothes/armor ?

If you can find/buy/craft some dye then you can dye whatever you want with it.

how deep will character creation be at release ?

Take a look at Black Desert Online character customisation, that's what they want to go towards - lots of customisation options so everyone looks different.

will this game have any guilds that involve themes and quests like ESO has or anything of that sort ?

They've already spoken about things like crafting societies and thieves guild type stuff for players that want to go down that path, they haven't went into depth and explained it all though.

will there be player owned homes and land ?

There will be open-world player owned homes in cities for those that manage to buy land early enough (or have money to buy them), there will also be instanced homes in cities for those that don't manage to snag the best property.

There is also a Freehold system that allows players to claim a plot of land out in the world and build their own home/tavern/smithy/stables or whatever they want to build.

You'll be able to give access to your friends and guildmates too so they can use your equipment if they are nearby.

will there game have RNG in things like gear upgrades like Black Desert Online or any sort of long research timers to learn things like ESO has ?

When it comes to crafting and research type stuff they've mentioned before that many will be harder to get, many will require taking other equipment apart, some will require simple recipies, etc. but again they haven't went super into detail with it all.

I'm a little surprised and disappointed that there is no shapeshift druid class in this game, but i suppose that would be hard to make since i've only seen that in a few games Diablo 2,WoW,Neverwinter Nights

Who knows, it might be possible for some of the classes to spec into something like a druid, we'll just have to wait until they give us information about all the classes and customisations to find out.

Remember, there are unique class combinations that will all feel very differently from one another.

Hope I didn't miss any and hope the info helps.

    1. The order you choose your classes in will matter, as I've understood it, They've said that the primary class will give you your baseline skills and the secondary class will be effecting/ augmenting your primary class skills. I have a feeling you might get a couple of new skills aswell but that's just me guessing.

    2. I'd guess. Most likely if you play Ranger/Mage over Mage/Ranger though.

    3. This information will be released in a upcoming blog post, I know there will be one regarding classes and one regarding combat or they'll both be the same post, however this question will probably be awnsered there.

    4. Yes CC will be a thing in Ashes, I'd guess details will also be in a combat blog post.

    5. AFAIK metropolis (the most developed nodes on the server, probably only 3-4 of them on the map at once, not sure what the number is but there will be a cap on how many there will be at once) will be the only place with fast travel, of what we know so far.

    6. This game will have dungeons and raids and The developers have said that this is a Deep Fantasy mmo or something like that, it means this will have many different types of creatures. Dragons will defeinitely be a part of the game. Mayors, Kings and queens (leaders of nodes and similar outposts) will be able to ride dragons and use them in fight.
The developers have use an example with a dragon living in a mountain several times as a example for how the world could affect the players (how will the players react? Will they fight the dragon, try to ignore it or move away to a safe place?)

    7. We do not know if the mage will have familiar summons or the ranger. The only pet class confirmed so far is the Summoner, maybe pair that with one of your other prefered classes.

    8. We don't know but I guess it might be possible since a rogue/ranger (called a Predator as of now) seems like it could use both melee and ranged attacks.

    9. unknown, we do know there will be 2 handed staves and spell books. No dildos afaik. Since all classes are able to use both heavy, medium and light armor I'd guess it's a possibility that all weapons will be available aswell.

    10. No restrictions have been placed as of now.

    11. Probably?

    12. I wouldn't expect fatalities to be a thing but I think we saw a deer corpse burning after being killed by a fireball in one of the gameplay videos. So probably yes to the first question.

    13. There wont be any auto attacks in the game and the pets abilities will be placed on your actionbar and not a specifik one. We do not know if pet behaviour is controllable, I'd expect yes, why not?

    14. There will be several different types of mounts. This is a concept image for one type of mount https://cdn.cemmos.net/content/uploads/2017/01/discord-mount-concepts.jpg?x76577 . There will be different types of mounts (ground mounts, water mounts, flying mounts, glider mounts) and you will use mount skills to change the appearance of the mount.

    15. There will be open world pvp and players are always flagged for pvp, However if you kill a innocent player you will become corrupted and you will be hunted by other players, your stats will decrease while corrupted and you might lose items on death if corrupted.

    16. since all classes can use all armors, yes.

    17. Since guilds will be a integral part of the game and guild unity and representation will be important I would not be surprised if this was true.

    18. "There will be dyes. But will likely be accessible behind achievements/crafting walls. And will be available in the cosmetic shop."

    19. The character customization will be similar to the level of customization in Black Desert Online.

    20. If you mean player guilds, that's up to the community but I've seen players already creating pirate guilds and many other themes. In game there will be different faction guilds like thieves guild and such.

21.Everything will be player owned, the towns are called nodes and all player housing will be placed around and inside the nodes. A node can start as a small camp but might eventually develop into a huge metropolis city.

  • Thank you for answering my questions.
if there isn't an FAQ for the game i would think this topic with my many questions could help as a sticky since i'm sure a lot of players have similar questions.
  • They haven't bothered to put out a faq in written form as such as this stage of the development project is fluid. Too many times developers write something down to have to change it later and the "community" loses their collective shit. So, don't post it until you're sure, less backlash when someone doesn't get exactly what they want.

UnknownSystemError       said,   though what is listed above is pretty much what is known,   all is subject to change.    Ashes is in pre-alpha and it's anything goes ( or stays lol) at this stage of the game.
