World Size?

In the beginning we get 5 metropolises. My question is how large an area do you guys think this is and how many nodes will be under the control of a metropolis. In addition how will the game share exp between nodes that rule over other nodes.

  • As for area, I suspect it will be quite large. It's hard to really know with what we know. Once a node is developed into stage 1,2,3, etc all other nodes in the area become inactive until that node is destroyed, and the cycle starts again.
  • yes but does that mean each node area is really small therefore meaning there could be hundreds of nodes inside the zoi of a metropolis. Plus they said an economic metropolis gives access to the markets of all nodes in its zoi. Therefore cities and towns and such will exist inside the zoi of one another. I can imagine cities might not allow other cities inside their zoi but then that would mean metropolises would have to gain a massive increase in zoi to become the effective capital of the area
  • With stream able tiles you could make a virtual planet. so there is no limit to the world size only the servers ability to handle all the data for world assets, npc players weather physics etc.

Agreed mostly my question is in regards to how spread out the nodes are. To close and caravans will hardly need guards. To far and players will rarely explore past their immediate area. Additionally size also determines to some degree how civilized the world will feel. If there are only 100 nodes and lets say it takes 45 minutes to travel between villages with on average 30 developed nodes in total the world will feel very different than thousands of nodes with the 15 minute travel time and the same 30% developed node values. This also goes into how large a zoi is. It is a question I doubt can be answered any time soon since they need to find out how much their servers can handle and how much lore and story they are able to build.
  • Judging by the example maps they've used in streams it looks like each zone is vast and with that plenty of space for nodes/ multiple nodes in each. We will get a better idea as the game develops and we see more :) also there can only ever be 5 metropolitan cities if I remember right - not 5 to start with. We also have the biiiiig under realm zone that we unlocked with Kickstarter. World is gonna be huge.
  • I'm waiting for them to announce they are using SpatialOS... then, the size will be virtually limitless! Hopefully its big. :)
  • There is one main continent and 1/2 of another from what Maevynn said, our community moderator, there will perhaps be around 50 nodes from what I've been told? And 5 castles in total. So it should be a very expansive world, even if it's just one continent...
