Death Mechanics and Penalties
Hi all
I'm trying to find any information I can about how the death will work in Ashes.
Has there been any information so far?
Personally I'm hoping that there will be some proper penalties for death, something that will make it a genuinely scary prospect. In MMO's these days I don't care if I die, it's a minor inconvenience having to run back to your mates (even less when you can just port there) but that's basically it.
I used to play NWN many years ago and on the server I played on if you die you would go to the Fugue Plane where all the other dead players were, and you'd be trapped there. There were a few options to return to the realm of the living:
1. Pay for resurrection with a shard of your soul which would leave you with serious stat penalties and would cost you a lot of XP (you could delevel) until you could restore it. If i remember correctly you had to make a considerable donation to your the temple of your chosen deity to restore it.
2. You could have a caster cast a spell like Resurrection which would leave you with less of a penalty and you would lose less XP but would require that they recover your corpse first.
3. You could have a high level Cleric perform a True Resurrection which required recovering your corpse and bringing it to the temple of your chosen deity. This would result in no penalty and minor XP loss.
These mechanics made death feel so much more relevant and interesting.
I really hope there are some meaningful death mechanics/penalties in Ashes.
What do you guys think?
